    So I've recently been very lucky to get in to a game run by Neo-Paladin in the Merge setting and so far the banter with the other PCs has been super fun but I have a bad habit of coming up with character ideas either after a game has either stopped recruiting or after I've already been accepted.

    David isn't sure whether he likes boys or girls or both.

    Background:

    David Morgan is unusual (though not unique) amongst suffers of MGS, on M-Day he suddenly found himself flooded with the memories of a girl in the court of King Arthur. It took some getting used to but it wasn't all bad, his mother was a history professor and now he was seeing heroes that he'd only ever heard of in her stories 'first hand'. To top it all off he had become stronger and faster than he'd ever been before and with some practice he was able to conjure arms and armour out of thin air, sure there were a couple of embarrassing memories that bubbled up on occasion but compared to others sufferers he was great, he was sure he was going to be one of England's greatest heroes.

    Then the nightmares started, 'Why won't father accept me?!' 'Why will he not recognise me as his rightful heir?!' 'If I can't have it then I will burn his dreams to the ground!' the girl was none other than Mordred. Hatred and anger haunted his sleep and threatened to consume his waking hours until he was almost unable to separate himself from the memories the merge thrust upon him, rushed to hospital by his concerned mother he was soon put on a power combination of medication to help him function and slowly he was able to get a handle on the situation again. The whole experience was traumatic but the one thing he held on to throughout it all was his dream of becoming a hero, of redeeming their name. When the Young Hero Initiative came calling he jumped at the chance.

    Notes:

    Normally things like Helm of Pedigree and Clarent would be devices but since they can be summoned/unsummoned at will they really don't qualify for the discount.

    Mariko never really had much concern for things like 'public safety' or 'collateral damage' getting superpowers hasn't really changed this.

    Mariko's body simply isn't equipped to handle the amount of power she could tap in to. The GM should feel free to add additional penalties whenever she uses Extra Effort or Go Beyond.

    Honour Amongst Thieves [Honor]
    Mariko looks out for those she considers her own and can't stand to see an unfair fight, in addition her word is her bond.

    The Big House [Motivation]
    Given a choice between the YHI and prison Mariko's going to choose the former.


    Background:

    If you asked some of the folk in her neighborhood Mariko was a nice girl, those people were of course wrong. Sure she looked out for the people from 'her turf' (unless they got on her bad side) and she couldn't stand to see an unfair fight but Mariko was a hooligan through and through, which is why when M-Day hit she used the chaos to indulge in her hobbies of looting and property damage.

    It was during her petty crime spree that she came across a wounded man backed in to a corner by monsters and went wading in with her baseball bat but it turned out that he hardly needed her help as he transformed in to a hulking muscle man right before her eyes. She was even more surprised when the man turned back and abruptly began coughing up blood. "That's it for me..." He said between wretches "But it looks like this place is gonna need all the help it can get...you seem like a good kid..." And then he shoved something in to her mouth, so she kicked the weirdo in the junk and went on her merry looting way.

    And that's when things got really weird, over the next few days she found herself becoming stronger and faster than she'd ever been, than anyone she could even think of and there didn't seem to be any sort of limit to this new well of strength. With her new found power she slowly began to expand her reach, anybody who stood in her way was crushed until she was top of the heap, queen of her own little kingdom, nobody could stop her. Until she got greedy...

    "Look I don't want to have to hit a girl so knock it off or I'm gonna have to pound you, okay?" The man who had wandered in to the arcade where Mariko held court said, sounding vaguely bored as he did. Shadows danced across the walls of the room as the delinquent girl let her power course through her, no loser in a cape was going to stop her! The battle, if you could call it that, was over before she could even blink. Whilst she was recovering in a full body cast representatives of the YHI approached her and gave her a choice, she could either become one of the inaugural inmates at a newly constructed prison for powered individuals or she could join their school and try and make something of her life.

    Notes:

    Well this one took a while but I'm actually really happy with the way that it worked out. Normally PL limits are an absolute pain for a a Deku style build but between Go Beyond, All-Out/Power Attack and Untapped Potential Mariko can throw rank 21 4pp/rank effects in exchange for tanking her defence, taking a pair of DC25/20 saves & becoming Exhausted which I think fits just fine.

    Background

    Vicky Morgan was a casualty of a clash between two gangs that (unbeknownst to either side) took place over ground that had been the site of unholy rituals in decades past. So when the dust settled not only did Vicky rise again as an ambulatory corpse but she found that she had the ability to raise others as her mindless zombie servants and taking the name Vicky Mortis she was quickly picked up by the Malus Academy. She's not really that down with the whole supervillain thing but nobody seems to bat an eye at her dietary requirements and she's made a couple of friends so she's just rolling with it for now.

    She's a zombie, she does zombie things, not much to say here except maybe you should go watch Zombieland Saga.

    Whether it's his androgynous appearance or the fact that he doesn't quite 'get' social interaction, as an artificial lifeform people tend to find MARC...off, even if they can't quite put there finger on it. This goes double for children and animals.

    Background:

    The Metahuman Ability Record Construct is the latest creation of the villainous metagenetist Professor Zero, enrolled at the Malus Academy not only to give the artifical lifeform a trial by fire in the school's brutal and unforgiving environnt but to provide him with rich pickings on which to test his ability to mimic and store the powers of metahumans.

    Never built a power mimic before so I thought I'd give it a shot and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. You know what? I'm gonna give him some Catalogued Powers just for funsies.

    Background:

    An exemplary member of the Army Cadet Force, Isaac Spoon was well on his way to a promising career in the military until the night of a camping trip in the Scottish Highlands where he and his family were attacked by a creature in the darkness. They managed to survive the incident and the local papers wrote it off as an animal escaped from a private collection and slowly their life went back to normal until a month later under the light of the full moon...

    Isaac tore at his flesh and painfully metamorphosised in a werewolf and went on a rampage only to be stopped by the intervention of a local hero. After he came to his senses the situation was fully explained to him, that creature that had attacked him had been a lycanthrope and now he was too. Once this news got back to the ACF it was a Sergeant with connections to the Special Operations Executive that got him the training he needed to begin to control his beastial alter ego and a place at the Avalon Academy where he'd learn to hone his new abilities.

    Another hero high candidate, though he does need a hero name...maybe Dog? I'm not to sure about arraying the gun skill with his close combat power but he's only using it to fire off equipment so whatever. The Noprize goes to whoever guesses the movie ref.
