Re: Wonders of Thedas Episode 36: The Blood of My Enemies

Thanks for the podcast, as ever, and for answering my question. I'm sure some in the Chantry would find a link between the Breach of Corypheus and the establishment of Brecillia - divine retribution for allowing a nest of alien mages to flower and rule in the heart of Ferelden, perhaps?

Regarding Reavers - my Inquisition campaign actually features the Agents from the multi-player computer game as the PCs, and Tamar is one! For that reason, your episode was particularly relevant to me.

As the sole known survivor of a Dragon cult, she knows of the rituals, but will also get help from another Reaver who you forgot to mention - Breaker Thram, one of the trainers who can teach the specialisation to a warrior Inquisitor. Thram has some great lines that are worth digging out and using - "Are you a follower? That is not the trait of a Reaver". She makes an excellent tutor for all DA campaigns.

I did a bit of research after your podcast and it was interesting to try and match the levels of the GR specialisation to that of the computer game abilities. Novice seems to match Devour quite well, whilst Journeyman relates to Aura of Pain, and Master to Fervour. There are several aspects that are missing though, and it got me thinking about whether one could expand and extend the Reaver path, in lieu of a character pursuing a second, different one. This would be taking the Inquisition route, of course, where the computer game allows only one specialisation.

One could call the current 'Master' level, 'Expert' instead, then have 'Master', 'Grandmaster' and 'Paragon' degrees come in at levels 14, 16 and 18 respectively.

Here goes then for my basic attempt to flesh out the Reaver specialisation:

Master (Level 14 - a combination of Frightening Appearance and Terrifying Fury) - You focus your unsettling countenance into a weapon, making your foes cower in fear. Whenever you use the Lethal Blow stunt, until the beginning of your next turn, anyone attempting to make a melee attack against you must make a successful Willpower (Courage) test. The target number (TN) is 10 + your Willpower ability (the Intimidate focus also adds 2 to the TN). Those who fail must take a move or defend action instead.

Grandmaster (Level 16 - based on Scenting Blood) - Being near a badly wounded enemy spurs you into a frenzy, driving you to move faster and giving you a better chance of striking deadly blows. If an enemy within 4 yards falls below a third of their starting health, for the rest of the encounter both the Seize the Initiative and Lethal Blow stunts cost you one less SP than normal.

Paragon (Level 18 - based on Blood Frenzy) - They thought you'd get weaker once they wounded you. They were wrong. First you must use the activate action to enter the Reaver mode. You receive a +1 bonus on your damage rolls in melee combat for every multiple of 25% of your starting health you are currently missing (up to a maximum of +3). Whilst in Reaver mode, the amount of Health you regain from any healing source (except that derived from the Novice ability of this specialisation) is reduced by a number equal to your Willpower.

I suppose my question for the next podcast would revolve around the idea of expanded and extended specialisations - what do you think of them as a concept? What do you think of my expanded Reaver specialisation?

    Keep up the good work!

Glad you like the show again, Parsival! Your continued support is a pillar for us at the podcast!

That is quite the question. We will have to ponder it for a bit before the show!

My favorite warrior specs have now been covered (Berserker and Reaver)! Yippie!

Now I just have to wait for Tal-Vashoth to be covered, and my favorite character build will be completely covered. My librarian will be completely covered on the podcast.

Question: Have any (Tal-)Vashoth been involved/had interactions with Brecilia? IE: mercenaries, bandits, merchants, etc.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Doesn't matter to me.
