    Dodge +11 (DC 21), Parry +14 (DC 24), Toughness +3 (+4 D.Roll), Fortitude +6, Will +6

Relationship (Yuri Sakazaki)- Robert is in love with his best friend's little sister.
    Enemy (Mr. Big, Geese Howard)
    Responsibility (His Parents' Business)
Weakness (Predictability)- SNK Characters cannot simply "spam" out the same attack over and over again, as the opponent will expect the attacks, and be ready for them (and a counterattack). The third time they try the same technique (or same combo of techniques) in a short span, they will be at -2 to Accuracy, AND to his Active Defenses in that round. All will decrease by 2 every successive round the same move is done.

    Total: Abilities: 56 / Skills: 60--30 / Advantages: 14 + 11 / Powers: 9 / Defenses: 15 (135)

-Robert is pretty much a rip-off of Ken, like Ryo was of Ryu; being the smirker, smart-assed variant of the main character, and his best buddy AND rival. Capcom was so annoyed at SNK for these rip-offs that they created Dan Hibiki, the joke character of the Street Fighter Alpha series, specifically to poke fun at Ryo & Robert. In fact, Dan looks identical to Robert, but wearing a ridiculous PINK gi, and uses the moves of both characters, but useless versions. He even has a t-shirt under his gi like Ryo does! Robert eventually got shuffled REALLY badly to the background of SNK games after the AoF series died, so he's in every King of Fighters ever in the "AoF Team", but his narrative hasn't moved forward in fourteen years, leaving him a permanent rival to Ryo, and never winning anything. He was at least the most-important character of Art of Fighting 3, however, on the chase for some girl he once knew.

-I gotta say though- dude has STYYYYYYYYYLE. It's especially notable because despite not dressing anything REMOTELY like a martial artist, he's managed to have the biggest possible effect on latter SNK characters- nearly the entire franchise would eschew "traditional outfit guys" like Ryo, and instead focus on pretty people in stylish clothes. The amount of SNK characters wearing flares pants and designer outfits is hilarious, and it all started with Robert.

-Robert, being the "Ken", has mostly the same moves as Ryo, but they're adjusted to match his kick-based offense instead (later KoF games would make him more of a Kickboxer type, tweaking him against all the other Shotoclones in the series). So he's got powerful kicks (a flying Dragon Kick is pretty cool), a Fireball (it's orange and Capcom-like versus Ryo's big, tall ones), and he kicks alot in his combos. He's more charismatic and jovial than Ryo, but lacks his Will Save and Motorbike. They are pretty much exact equals in combat, though- Robert has canonically defeated Mr. Big (Ryo beat Mr. Karate), and won the third Art of Fighting, defeating both Sinclair & Wyler.

-Some fighting game characters live on past their debut to become legends. Icons of the genre, they radiate charisma, originality and are excellent in-game characters high on the Power Tiers, with varied offense and iconic movesets. Others are this guy. Mickey is a rip-off of countless Boxer-themed characters, a resolutely unoriginal "Boxer" archetype. He's a dickhead (the Japanese apparently view Boxers as a big stereotyped version of Americans, unless it's the two big Boxing mangas- Hajime no Ippo and Ashita no Joe), a brawler, and a bit of a dumb thug. But they actually saved him a minor bit by having him become a good guy in the second game, allying with the Kyokugenryo School to fend off the evil Geese & Mr. Big. Not that it helped him from falling into video game history alongside the forgotten boxers of the other SNK games (Heavy D & the THREE Fatal Fury ones), but at least it's something. Being a generic tall ripped guy in generic trunks didn't help.

-Mickey is weird in that despite being a Boxer archetype, he's got a couple Fireball-styled attacks (regular & SNK-ground waves), but then, ALL of AoF seems to have those attacks unless they're grapplers. Very odd. Like Jack, he's not much of a fighter compared to other Fighting Game guys.

    Re: Jab's Builds!

It's kind of ironic, in its own way. Most of the Street Fighter characters are decked out in traditional martial arts uniforms, military uniforms, or outfits that on some level were conceivably designed for fighting. Meanwhile, the King of/Art of Fighter guys tend to wear variations of normal clothing.

So the guys in the game named Street Fighter are dressed like they're going to an official martial arts tournament, while the folks in King of Fighters, which sounds like an official martial arts tournament, are all dressed in stuff that's impractical for a tournament, but something they might be wearing if they got into a fight on the street.

-Wow, Temjin sucks. Just a burly Mongolian guy in a plain shirt & pants. Who the hell designed this piece of crap? He was only in the second Art of Fighting game (as the third was an SFIII-style "get rid of everyone but a couple" type of game), and pretty much had zero impact on SNK as a whole, so consider him a failure. He's a big, tough brawler, designed for grappling combat and little else. All his special moves are basically just grapples, so don't require any stats. Common stuff is big Bull-Rush attacks & wrestling Power Slams, so he gets alot of out Grab, Pin & Power Attack.

    Defenses:
    Dodge +12 (DC 22), Parry +12 (DC 22), Toughness +3 (+4 D.Roll), Fortitude +6, Will +6

    Complications:
Motivation (Becoming The Strongest)- Eiji has sworn to be the strongest under the Heavens- in order to accomplish this, he must defeat the experts of Kyokugenryu Karate.
Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 48--24 / Advantages: 15 + 11 / Powers: 11 / Defenses: 13 (142)

-Eiji is another oddly popular character from AoF, given that he's your basic average ninja, with very little original about him. In fact, he's got the same "rival to the Kyokugenryo School" origin as half the freaking cast! And his LOOK is awful as well- he's got a MULLET for God's sake, in addition to a lame purple outfit! But the fans somehow cliched onto him, and his appearances in King of Fighters games (including one of the most recent ones) show just how popular this side-character nobody has become- he was one of a Villain Team in KoF '95, teaming up with Billy Kane of Fatal Fury and Iori Yagami (rival to Kyo, the main character of KoF), and an Anti-Kyokugenryu Team in XI (joining new character Malin & Kasumi Todoh).

-Eiji's a strong PL 8, having tons of Skills & Advantages, in addition to some unique powers. He fights with his Knife most often, but can switch to the more powerful, inaccurate Fire Slice or just Blast away (every guy in this game has projectile blasts for some reason). He's even got enough of the ninja in him to Leap if necessary. Note that he's one of the only villains that even remotely equals the main heroes, by virtue of his later appearances in other games.

Well, in this game it at least made sense because it wasn't a tournament, you were just rolling around Southtown beating up dudes to get your sister back.

In the KOF games, I think that a fair number of the guys wear martial arts gear, with notable exceptions being Terry, King, and Robert, among others.

I remember getting an issue of Nintendo Power which featured King of Fighters. Or something. The one with the guy in the trucker hat. I immediately pegged is a Street Fighter ripoff.

7 year old me was a wise kid indeed.

That was probably Fatal Fury, Since trucker hat guy was most likely Terry Bogard.

As for being a ripoff, I believe Boy George said it best: "Its not who does it first, its who does it best."

Of course who does it best would still be Street Fighter, but the SNK fighters are still good too.
