Re: Heroes Unlimited: The Viper Wars Final Gambit

    Everyone

As Kris reappears Elena gives him a big hug happy to see hes alive, but shes a bit stunned to hear hes leaving as if she hadn't been as prepared to hear this as other news shes heard. Still she wishes him well, and is as impressed as any when he vanishes in a simple dramatic fade away.

Outside the window that overlooks the grounds an Owl flaps its wings as it takes flight and is followed by a single raven that follows it away into the sunset.

    --ooOoo--

    Elsewhere

Anubis stands over a stone fountain in a dark lair. On the side of the fountain ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs spread across the sides in an arcane pattern of significance only to a few. reaching out the Dark jackal faced villain pulls a golden helmet in an ancient Egyptian style but unlike any such helmet ever made; the fruits of the Masters labor from a box and admires it longingly. He can feel the ancient power seeping from it.

Nodding once he places the helmet over the fountain where it floats in mid air, beneath it the waters of the fountain roil and bubble as the dark power in the helm reach out to their true owner. finally the helme floats back to Anubis who places it reverently on an altar.

"Soon Master, soon you will rise again!" he growls before letting fly with a barking malevolent laugh.

    To be continued.

Chapter 3: Rise of the Sphinx

    The Nakamura incedent

Black Anubis raises his hands in the air as he snarls a vicious spell that curdles the very air around him. He calls more and more power causing the runes on an ancient floor to light up with energy. As the spell coalesces and takes form he wills its intent into being smirking triumphantly before his face loses the looks of triumph and is replaced by one of abject shock and rage.

Anubis roars in rage as his spell fails and he breaths a gout of black shadow flame on the unfortunate sacrifice he had used to power the ritual.

A feminine voice near by Smirks "I take it things didn't go as planned?" she mocks him in all sincerity

He rounds on the woman in the Reddish Orange costume her long dark hair waving behind her in the breeze, she doesn't look in the slightest worried though she takes an instinctive step back at his fury.

"Don't forget who you serve Garnet, you and your entire bunch of petty crooks would be nothing If I hadn't found you, Empowered you and made you more!" He snarls viciously

"How could we?" she harumphs "You constantly remind us." her eyes meet his as they glow a bright orangish red its a contest of wills But it is Garnet who backs down first though she holds his dark gaze quite a while.

"So what now?" she asks "We're no closer to Gemstone, and you're not closer to the armor."

Anubis harumphs in frustration as he thinks long and hard. "The wards on the vault are powerful, I sense the hand of the accursed lady grey in this, she must have some interest in this business."

"I might have an idea." Garnet speaks causing Anubis to look at her sideways as she continues

"If you cant break it open, We'll just get them or someone to open it for us."

The pair walk off as Anubis chuckles malevolently.

    Hornet and Shock

The team has spent the last couple of days with fairly little to do thanks to a surprisingly quiet among the cities criminally inclined. So much so that Chris has been able to catch up on all his paperwork, and Hornet his myriad projects at Oracles Tech and Science division.

This leads time for Hornet to attend a gathering with Chris in their Heroic guises at a local girl scout gathering where the two work to inspire many young ladies minds towards science, engineering and math.

The event is fun for all and ends with quite a few new fans for both heroes. Events though take a turn when an alarm goes off nearby, the distinctive clangor of a banks alert system.

Investigate the Bank robbery at your leisure gentlemen

For Bastion and Dragonfyre and Skylark hero point to you three for a brief post of some daring doo landing a distressed plane, saving orphans from a fire etc

Edit because Im a moron and forgot Skylark

"Oh come on, a bank robbery? The only thing more cliche than that is a race to see which hero gets there first." Chris rolled his eyes. Things had been so quiet a bank robbery was almost welcome. Almost. "Whaddya say?"

"Actually the more cliché thing would be some loser with an attitude, a flashy outfit, and either flashy powers or a super fancy weapon they didn't make being the one doing the robbery."

    "Whaddya say?"
Hornet grins as he engages the flight pack, its all too well known "buzzzzz" sounding strong as it lifts him into the air. Just before shrinking down to his "action size" he adds; "You're on!"

    Skylark
    Condition: Normal / HP: 1

Oh, a week. What a week it's been. A week is forever in the life of a teenaged heroine with detention to beat, deadlines to meet and curfew to keep. It lasts positively forever when you're staring at Ms. Morray's World History paper without a clue what it's talking about, waiting for the bell to ring. It never seems to last long enough when you're trying to catch one more ounce of sleep before the alarm clock rings.

Where do we start? Well, how about the plane hijacking incident at the airport last week? After catching up with the plane in her Larkwing VTOL, busting in through the window and beating the crap out of the hijackers she'd had to sit down at the controls and land the plane manually. Not so bad... except when the remaining crew looked at her disappointingly and were like "what, can't you just carry the jet back to the airport?" Some people just don't appreciate superheroing of the non-flying brick variety.

Then there was the night where some pain in the neck by the name of Digital Kid (honestly? Who in their right mind calls themselves 'kid'?) figured out that she had to be home by midnight every day to make the Falcon's curfew and taunted her with "see you tomorrow, Cinderella!" She got so mad that she proceeded to break curfew just to hunt him down, beat the crap out of him, smash every single one of his fancy gadgets and leave him face-down in a dumpster. She got a severe dressing-down for 'recklessness' but boy oh boy was that so satisfying.

A few days of quiet where she saved a kitty from a tree (it growled and snarled and tried to claw her face off all the way) and helped an elderly man find his carkeys (stolen by a magpie).

One night where, standing before the mirror in her sports bra and underwear, she couldn't help but notice she was starting to amass an unhealthy collection of scars and that it would be a long, long time before Dawn and Veronica laid off with the 'ironing board' and 'airport runway' taunts.

    And, of course, today.

"Thank you!" Skylark positively lights up as she takes her sandwich and hops out of the local Subway. She's barely two steps out the door before she's already peeling back the paper to dig into crisp lettuce, succulent chicken, tangy cheese, salty olives and--

    Bank alarm.

She freezes mid-step and the look of dismay on her face lasts a full second before she shakes her head, nearly whipping a passer-by with her blonde ponytail, and gets herself to focus. "Okay, okay," she whispers to herself. "Action time, game face on. Let's go!"

Wrapping up the sandwich again and shoving it in a pocket of her backpack, Skylark ducks into the nearest back alley she can find and checks that the coast is clear before changing into costume. She always wears the leotard and stockings of her blue-on-white costume beneath her jeans and hoodie, and it only takes her a minute to snap on her cape-backpack and put on her mask. "Geez," she murmurs, hopping on one foot as she tries to pull her mineproof boots onto the other, "the only way this could be more cliche is if I was INSIDE the bank when it went off. There you go," she shoves her backpack into a disused mailbox.

An instant later a winged figure in white and sky blue soars out of the alley on feathered smart polymer wings, and flits off in the direction of the bank, a fan of feather blades in her hand.

In a burst of light, Chris took off for the bank. It was important to get there quickly. At this time of day, a robbery could easily devolve into a standoff and/or hostage situation. He spoke into his comm as he ran. "Hornet, try to stay unseen. If we have to infiltrate it's better if they don't even know you're on scene."

By my math, Flight 8 easily beats Speed 4 so Hornet would have to be really slacking to lose this race

"Figured that was the plan." Hornet replies over the communicator while he stays within sight of his teammate, there was no point in his arriving at the bank before Shock and would only make their efforts there more difficult. "You draw attention and I'll back you up."

Re: Heroes Unlimited: The Viper Wars Final Gambit

    Hornet, Shock, Skylark

As all three heroes arrive on scene they come across a scene of chaos. A cop car pulls up and two officers get out but just as they do the front of their car is riddled with blaster fire. The shock of seeing common crooks armed with military grade weapons causes the officers to be injured as they dive for cover. Out of the front door of the bank four men dressed in dark fatigues and masks and wearing body armor move in a military precise manner laying down cover fire as they head for a van parked nearby with its engine running. On each of their shoulders a large orange bag sits weighed down with money most likely and other ill gotten gains.

For all three heroes they get a bit of a shock because the weapons sounds are very distinctive, especially given the war they fought barely a week or so back. The sounds of Viper blasters. The manner of the four men is military precise as they move and shoot and one of the men even takes a shot from one of the cops which staggers him but doesn't put him down thanks to the body armor he wears.

All three heroes can remember that Police and Shield agents were pretty thorough in their sweep of local gangs and those who Viper sold weaponry too before Operation Anaconda--the terrorist organizations name for the war that was fought--was stopped.

Hero point as promised for Skylark fun stuff

All three of you may act as normal no need for initiative since the bad guys cannot beat yours

    they do count as mooks

Re: Heroes Unlimited: The Viper Wars Final Gambit

    BASTION (Tyler Battle)
    HP: 2
    Cnd: Healthy
    Loc.: Interlude

There had been a lull after dealing with the Masters and VIPER. Which was good because Tyler needed to attend a gaming convention out of state. Most people would call it a vacation, but for Tyler it was work. He had to stay on top of the latest gaming trends, do his research, try to get some sneak peaks, and mingle. Being been as Tyler mattered just as much as being seen as Bastion. There were cute cosplay girls at the convention though, so some people would say being Tyler had it's advantages over flying and super strength.

It was while he had be trying out a new super hero themed card game, Champions of the Cosmos, that things went south. An angry game designer backed by a group of heavily armed Mercenaries stormed the conference and took the attendees hostage. Including Tyler. Someone at the conference had stolen the game designer's intellectual property and was making a fortune off of it and now the game designer turned criminal was going to get his due by holding everyone for ransom. It was overblown and, to Tyler, it was obvious to see as a diversion for something considerably less obvious.

In the course of saving his alter ego and the rest of the hostages Bastion learned that the gaming conference was adjacent to a building whose top floor housed a series of servers for the FBI. It turned out that it was part of a security measure wherein certain highly sensitive information was rotated from one server to the next. Never remaining in one city for too long before being wiped and uploaded to the next server site. The man claiming to be a game designer had figured out when the data would be uploaded to this particular site had used taking hostages as cover for stealing it.

Or at least that was his plan. Over the course of some tricky maneuvering that felt a little too much like Die Hard for comfort, Bastion uncovered the truth and thwarted the criminal's efforts. Though the game designer escaped, the rest of his men were taken into custody. Unfortunately this cut the convention short and Tyler soon returned home.
