  • Projectiles - where do they go?

Something I often wondered when reading the Expanse novels and now again while reading the rulebook - where do all the tungsten projectiles go that miss their intended targets?

Well, the answer seems simple: they go on wooshing around through space for all eternity - until hitting something: a ship, a city, a lone hiker in Earth's forests, a station, whatever.

But the question is never adressed. It is probably best to leave it, but I simply can't help wondering what the authors had in mind with all these frantic shooting of solid missiles, highly poisonous ones as well with their depleted uranium cores. I mean, even today on Earth DU ammunition is already causing any amount of cancer and malforming of newborns and such.

"Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space." -Douglas Adams

Presumably, indeed, they just continue moving along, effectively becoming very small asteroids, meteors, etc. The odds of them hitting anything that we actually pay attention to is vanishingly low because, well, space has a lot of empty space involved.
