  • Idea for Dogfights

I was thinking about a small rules change to make the chase rules more suitable for dogfights (think Star Wars). Problem for dogfights with the chase rules as they are is that they assume a linearity, where dogfights are more dynamic. Somehow it must be determined whether my opponent is my sights. What I came up with is a small change (and very rough, nothing fleshed out yet):

Instead of determining whether you can attack your target by using the chase track, you compare the Stunt Dice of the Chase Tests. Vehicles with a static front-facing weapon can only attack opponents whose Stunt Die is less than theirs or who have failed their Chase Checks. A tie is resolved by comparing ability scores.

Does this seem sensible to you? Does anyone have a better idea how to handle Star Wars-like dogfights?

You could do it as a duel as per the Modern AGE Companion. Modern AGE treats vehicles with a light touch, and there's definitely a place for homebrewed elements there.

Oh yeah. Thanks! I've only glossed over duels, but they are perfect for what I want to do.

I'm going to read them with this in mind. Thanks! I don't think it would have occurred to me.
