    Penetrating damage is meh. It's there so mages have a weapon against warriors, but in reality a warrior should get master armor training, so that they have a resistance. With the new bestiary, things might change a little, but I find AGE to be vs. peoples rather than against monsters.

      That's true in DAGE, but I'm not so sure in FAGE; the opposition doesn't get to just race up one stat, and most standard opponents tend to have lower Fighting and Accuracy than equivalents do in DAGE. At that point the benefits from Talents (which mostly tend to be defensive) tend to about even out with the focus bonuses on the other end, so it seems like Defense is a more useful ability to pursue. With shields, it might even be possible to consistently stay ahead of attacks.
