  • Changes in the human race

    Since humans are supposed to be adaptable I'm thinking to make the following changes:
    Atributes: Choose between +1 Strength or +1 Dextery or +1 Inteligence
    In the "2d6 table" you would be able to roll for +1 Comunication, +1 Constitution and +1 Willpower (plus focuses that dont need to appear here)
    What do you think about it?

    I think this text is full of english errors, please dont mind it. If the text is confuse just tell me and i will clarify.

    this is the way i have done Humans in my Fantasy Age games:

    Add +1 to your INT or PER.
    Pick a Focus: DEX (Riding) or CON (Swimming)
    ADAPTABLE: Gain 1 free Ability Focus at creation
    Speed is 10+DEX-Armor
    Speak and Read Common and one other language of choice
    Roll Twice
    2D6 Roll Benefit
    2 +1 FGT
    3-4 CON (Stamina)
    5 PER (Searching)
    6 COM (Persuasion)
    7-8 +1 CON
    9 COM (Deception)

    I think that ADAPTABILITY is the focus for the Humans. they can begin with one more Ability Focus that no other race can get for having lack of other powers like Darksight or Natural armor.
    10-11 ACC (Brawling)
    12 +1 STR

      People think adaptability = evolution. Humans should have it's +1 Fighting, but they can be everything. Otherwise, elves also should get a free focus because some are from the forests and some live in the city. And Dwarves too. And every single other race. Adaptability of humans it's about how different from one another each are, but in mostly RPG settings they are a warrior race, so you have +1 Fighting. If you had Tolkiens humans, they would probably get +1 Intelligence or +1 Communication, due to their political nature.

        you have misunderstood my concept here. even in LotR, Tolkein describes humans as the most adaptable of all the races. my idea was to create a variety of human concepts including those with political prowess. hints the free focus. And an FYI, every RPG and book on fantasy i have ever seen mentions humans as adaptable not warrior-like. Dwarves are warrior-like but humans are the most diverse of the races, hints the free focus. this is to represent the Free Feat in D&D. you can do what you want as a human because they are so wide-spread and diverse. also, this is taken into point by the +1 INT or +1 PER, due to the fact that some humans are smarter than others and some are more perceptive. it is how you build the character that defines who or what he/she is, and THAT is the point behind my creation. which none of my players have a problem with

        Now, i'm not trying to argue here, but you basically just proved my point with your argument.

          I am not sure there really is such as thing as a typical human. My gut feeling on this is to have different cultures of humans, based on their upbringing. Tolkien did this with Rohirrim, Gondorians etc. Dwarves may be Dwarves, but humans can be elegant, or warlike, or sneaky, or horse loving etc. My advice would be to create some specific types of humans for your own fantasy settings, and provide them with appropriate bonuses, rather than Fighting. I think it will add a lot of colour to your games if a player sees themselves as a Kordellian Rogue, a Raxxorrim Warrior or Qunarian Mage, rather than just Human.
