  • Rift Power Idea

Hey all, I am working on my own campaign that involves similar events to Dragon Age Inquisition and wanted some input on a new idea: The Breach Mark AKA Mark of the Rift. my idea is that it takes place at the same time the Blight does, so the players must fight Demons and Darkspawn at the same time. some might be touched by the Fade so i wanted some feedback on some ideas (shamelessly taken from Dragon Age Inquisition). It is also compatible with Fantasy Age so i posted it here as well as on the Dragon Age Forum for input.

    Mark of the Rift Talent
    Class: any
    Requirements: Level 6 minimum
Novice: You gain one Rift power at Novice Level. You can also make a Willpower (Fade Rift) Test to close Fade Rifts. The TN of the Rift is dependent on the Level it is. Higher level Rifts have a higher TN.
Journeyman: You gain the Journeyman Level of your previous Rift Power or the Novice in a new one. You also gain the Focus Willpower (Fade Rift) at a +2
Master: Gain the Master level of your Rift Power or Novice in a new one. Your Willpower (Fade Rift) focus goes to a +3

    RIFT POWERS:

    Summon Rift:
You summon a rift that rips the enemies in the field apart
Novice: 5 yard area dealing 1D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage for 2 rounds. Targets in the area must make a TN 9+your Willpower DEX (Acrobatics) test or be knocked prone
Journeyman: 10 yard area dealing 2D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage for 3 rounds. Targets in the area must make a TN 11+your Willpower DEX (Acrobatics) test or be knocked prone
Master: 15 yard area dealing 3D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage for 2 rounds. Targets in the area must make a TN 13+your Willpower DEX (Acrobatics) test or be knocked prone

    Resurgence:
You mark a Glyph that heals all allies within
Novice: 5 yard area. All allies within heal 1D6+Willpower in health for 1 round
Journeyman: 10 yard area. All allies within heal 2D6+Willpower in health each round for 2 rounds. Mages, gain 1D6+Willpower in Mana for those rounds
Master: 10 yard area. All allies within heal 3D6+Willpower in health each round for 4 rounds. Mages, gain 2D6+Willpower in Mana for those rounds

    Rally:
You boost your allies’ morale, granting a bonus to DEF
Novice: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +1 bonus to Defense for 2 rounds
Journeyman: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +2 bonus to Defense for 3 rounds
Master: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +3 bonus to Defense for 4 rounds

    Haste:
You boost your allies’ speed, slowing your enemies down
Novice: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +1 bonus to Speed for 2 rounds
Journeyman: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +2 bonus to Speed for 3 rounds
Master: You select a number of allies equal to your Willpower (you can include yourself in this). They all gain a +3 bonus to Speed for 4 rounds

    Thousand Cuts:
You unleash the Rift onto a single target, dealing massive damage
    Novice: 1D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage
Journeyman: 2D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage. Can use Knock Prone on this for 1 SP less
Master: 3D6+Willpower Penetrating Damage. Can use Mighty Blow on this for 1 SP less

    Firestorm:
You unleash the fiery fury of the Fade itself
Novice: 1D6+Willpower Damage on up to 2 targets. Targets that fail a CON (Stamina) vs. TN 9+willpower are set on fire and take 2 points of penetrating damage for 2 rounds
Journeyman: 2D6+Willpower Damage on up to 3 targets. Targets that fail a CON (Stamina) vs. TN 11+willpower are set on fire and take 3 points of penetrating damage for 3 rounds
Master: 3D6+Willpower Damage on up to 4 targets. Targets that fail a CON (Stamina) vs. TN 13+willpower are set on fire and take 4 points of penetrating damage for 4 rounds

    Cloak of Shadows:
You bathe yourself in the darkness of the fade
Novice: You are invisible for 2 rounds and can attack with a +1 attack bonus. This will not remove the Cloak. Enemies must make an opposed Perception (Seeing) test vs. your DEX (Stealth)+1 to see you
Journeyman: You are invisible for 3 rounds and can attack with a +2 attack bonus. This will not remove the Cloak. You can invoke this on one extra ally. Enemies must make an opposed Perception (Seeing) test vs. your DEX (Stealth)+2 to see you
Master: You are invisible for 4 rounds and can attack with a +3 attack bonus. This will not remove the Cloak. You can invoke this on two extra allies. Enemies must make an opposed Perception (Seeing) test vs. your DEX (Stealth)+3 to see you

    Telekinesis:
You can move objects too heavy for you with just your willpower
Novice: You can move simple objects up to 25 lbs with no issues
Journeyman: You can move heavier objects up to 50 lbs. You can also apply your STR (Might) focus to Tests involving this Rift power. This will not add to any other focus you may wish to use
Master: You can move heavier objects up to 100 lbs. You can also apply your STR (Might) focus to Tests involving this Rift power. This can be added to one other focus when used

I am planning on making this a big part of Age of Alchemy and would like any thoughts on this. thanks for any input

    Re: Rift Power Idea

Why can enemies make a seeing test to find invisible characters? Aren't they invisible?

Overall, I think they start weak and end strong, and I don't think the focus should be included in the talent, but having a significant portion of your talents being one attack is somewhat limiting. Ultimately, IMO. I don't think these should be talents.

      Re: Rift Power Idea

      Very cool concept! ^_^

I feel that the Mark of the Rift talent should function like an Arcana, a li'l something like:
      • Novice: Choose any two of the following Rift Spells: A, B, C, D, etc. You gain the chosen spells. You also gain a special pool of energy (represented by Rift Points) that you can exclusively use in casting your Rift Spells.
      • Journeyman: Choose one of the following spells: E, F, G, H, etc. You learn the chosen spell. You gain the ability focus Intelligence (Rift Arcana). Your pool of Rift Points increase.
      • Master: Choose one of the following spells: X, Y, Z. You learn the chosen spell. Choose one spell stunt; you can use the chosen stunt for one less SP than usual when casting your Rift Spells. Your pool of Rift Points increase.

With the above concept in mind, I would convert all of the Rift Powers into Rift Spells:
      • They function like Arcana Spells, but they consume Rift Points, instead of Magic Points.
      • I would replace the mastery degrees with higher RP costs. In this way, the Marked will gain access to the better capabilities of her Rift Spells as she gains degrees in the Mark of the Rift talent (because that is the only way she gets Rift Points).

These are just some ideas off the top of my head right now. I hope they're helpful.

        Re: Rift Power Idea

I was looking for something similar when creating a specs for a character of mine. I found that Titansgrave gave us a Chaos Stunt Chart (p.88) that looks qui similar to the power you described here. Maybe, to simplifiy a bit, you could go with a talent that gave your players some progressive mastery over Rift Powers, simulated by the acquisition of stronger Stunts at each rank, much like Divine Gift from the Gift of the Gods add-on.

Novice: You can spot Rifts like no other. You gain the Focus: Perception (Sense Rift).
Futhermore, you gain access to Chaos Stunts up to 2 SP.

Journeyman: No Rift can resist your will. You can make a Willpower (Fade Rift) Test to close Fade Rifts
and gain access to Chaos Stunts up to 4 SP

Master: The trespassers will regret setting foot in your world. Your weapons count as Magical when
fighting against Rift touched creature. You gain access to all Chaos stunts.

Then maybe you could have some Rift related Specs (Warrior: Marked Champion, Rogue: Rift Walker, Mage: Alienist)

This is a nice edition, but i still want the powers to be available as well. so if you also get a Rift Power of choice at the same level (Novice power at Novice, Journeyman power at Journeyman, and Master power at Master) then each person can still have a certain power that is theirs. maybe this can be the SPEC and each version has their own Rift Power they can access.

So Marked Champion will have one power while Rift Walker and Alienist have different ones that are as equally useful and remain balanced. this will need some thought. thanks for that, it lets me advance my idea a bit.
