  • Mass Combat rules ideas

    First off, i want to say i really like the Mass Combat rules for the AGE system. it brings together all the things that mass combat should be, but making it simple and fun.

    I had a few ideas though. Mass combat can happen in many different environments, most of the time it happens in or around a castle or city. so rules for walls and siege weapons would be great.

    Maybe City Walls can add to the TN of the opposing army to break through it while Siege Weapons are the opposite of that, adding to the roll so that walls become more of an annoyance. Things like cannons and mounted cavalry units will be great as well.

    I don't have the stuff written down yet, but if anyone has any ideas on this matter while i get it worked out, please post and comment.

    Okay, recently i got a pdf copy of Fantasy AGE and it is so similar to Dragon Age that i love the S--T out of it!!!!

    As a response to the above inquiry, i have the following ideas:

    Mass combat should be almost the same with a few minor changes. for example, since this is not world specific, like DA, some of the focuses for the Mass Battle Cards should be changed. My ideas are

    Some new Specialists can be implemented such as Battlements and Siege Weapons. Cannons can work as well as archer squads and ground militia.

    one example can include Battle of the Five Armies; stage 1 Specialists were the Dwarven Shieldguards and Elven Archers. Then came the Human Militia and lets not forget the Orc Troops and even the Worms. The eagles would be placed in Stage 3 in my opinion. The Battlements and Walls of the City made for added defense against the enemy forces for that stage, maybe granting a +1 to +3 bonus for size and strength.

    Another example is from our own history including SIEGE WEAPONS!!! I am so hellbent on making Siege Weapons it's not even funny! but anyway, a Siege Weapon can decimate enemy forces with ease (And yes, i do mean taking out 10% as the word Decimate means to destroy 1/10 of something). This would grant a bonus to attack rolls for that Stage, including such weapons as trebruchets (Catapults), battering rams, and even the really massive Wall Climbers that hold troops that can get over walls by rolling up to them and letting them out the top. Cannons will do well for both sides adding to defense or attack based on positioning and number. in defense, they would be on the walls aiming down or on the field aimed towards the invading army. in attack, they would be aimed at the walls to break them down and allow troops to enter the holes (no sexual pun intended there!).

    Any comments on this idea?
