  • Still confused: Cold Shaping Fatigue test

    Hello!

I’ve been GMing a Blue Rose AGE privateer pbp rpg for some months now, and I’m struggling with balancing Adversaries and some types of Arcana.

I’m very combat-oriented in rpgs, so we had several combat encounters in the game so far. It’s been fun so far, and I absolutely love, love the Aldea setting (especially Aldis of course), but lately I’ve been getting occasionally frustrated with trying to do the combat encounters, especially with the Arcana and Sorcery usage. (The Psychic Arcana are very confusing and time consuming for me.)

One major issue I had recently was Cold Shaping (like Frostbite) being able to be spammed, because it had no Fatigue in its entry. (Which I wouldn’t mind for the most part....but the other Shaping Arcana and many other Arcana have Fatigue, which makes it feel a bit unfair to me.)

However, in the table, Cold Shaping has the Fatigue Test as: Test Result.

What does that mean? So if someone rolls a 17 on their Frostbite Test, they then have to roll a Fatigue Test vs that result (of 17)?

According to the errata the Fatigue is equal to the TN

Oh, okay, so the default TN of 11 for frostbite, not a rolled new result. Got it! That helps, thank you!

I love Blue Rose and I love the basic AGE tests, but Arcana is often an area where I struggle with. It will take me some time to practice, and hopefully, I can get used to the Magick stuff.

        Cold Shaping, pg. 97
“Cold Shaping” arcanum: Change “TN: 11” to “TN: Varies (see description)”; Change “Fatigue: None” entry to “Fatigue: Test TN”.
        · “Frostbite” subheader: Add “TN 11” to the subheader. Also, change the following sentence: “With a successful TN 11 test…” to “With a successful arcana test…”
        · “Freeze Water” subheader: Add “TN 9” to the subheader.
        · “Reduce Fire” subheader: Add “TN 9” to the subheader.

Thanks for helping out while I was buried in GenCon!

Some good news - we should be seeing a PDF update for the Blue Rose core rulebook with ALL of the errata to date included in it. I'll post here on the forums when it's available.
