Overall, I liked it but didn't love it.

    Still, some truly beautiful visuals.

    Love the droid too.

    Re: Star wars: Rogue one

Without going into spoilers on here.. (cuz i know not when i will see this, cuz oh hey, baby)..

Was this better than The Force Awakens? (and what did you think of TFA?). My standing on TFA for reference was just a simple "It could've been so much more" and that it felt "too safe".

Just wondering what i can possibly expect if i ever get to see this one..

Also, does your review go into spoilers? cuz if so, then i won't read it yet.

It's a negative mirror image in many respects of TFA in the fact that TFA tries to be the original trilogy in miniature while Rogue One tries for something new. It goes for a "Dirty Dozen" war movie feel where the Rebellion as a whole treated as being Redshirts to an invincible Empire for the most part. Sort of like if Star Wars was suddenly Mobile Suit Gundam with Donnie Yen playing the only person who is remotely Jedi-like. Also, the Rebellion turns out to have a somewhat nasty side which I didn't expect or like.

For me, it makes it inferior to TFA but I know plenty of people who absolutely love this movie and ate it up.

Honestly, the biggest flaw is the villain is more Wayland Smithers than Grand Admiral Thrawn and the soundtrack is forgettable with no opening crawl.

No, there's no spoilers other than the general outline of the plot which is, "Rebels get message from heroine's dad, assemble, steal death star plans."

        Re: Star wars: Rogue one

Apart from the lack of a crawl at the beginning, I rather liked it.

Not going to spoil, but I enjoyed it immensely more than TFA. It felt Star Wars. In fact, leaving the theater I wanted to go home and watch ANH...

The cameos alone are worth it. And there was a good balance of tech. Our ability to imagine the future (or superior tech) has evolved, and it's extremely glaring in the prequels where everything seems more advanced than the original trilogy... but this worked for me. The visuals showed advanced alien society without overshadowing what we've seen in the originals...

Been reading reviews on line... why people have to read into things is beyond me. The Blind Force User and his militant buddy... why do people have to think there is more there than camaraderie? Seriously.

The Empire has taken everything from everyone. Things are bleak. If you held to the old ways, and were a Force User, it was a dark time... so of course two people with any history are going to be devastated if something happens to the other...

This isn't an anti-anything rant. It`s a why do we have to look everywhere for hidden political or social agendas rant.

              /sigh.

Eh, people always ship and they're hoping Star Wars will include some gay characters.

Personally, I don't think they were but nothing would change if Star Wars had a husband and husband pair of badasses.

As a black man, I am ticked off that all of the Empire's engineers were white. So a black man can run Cloud City, but he can't build a Death Star?!?!?! C-O-N-SPIRACY!

All kidding aside, I loved it. I thought the visuals were great, the performances were strong, the cameos were great and we got to see Vader. As expected, I knew they wouldn't give me as much as I wanted, but what I got of the greatest character in all of cinema (that's not opinion, that's a scientific fact, just like it's anchor-MAN, not anchor-LADY) gave me goosebumps.

And I definitely like it better than the Force Awakens. But honestly, that's not saying that much. To date, it is the only Star Wars movie I haven't watched multiple times. I enjoyed it, and I loved the nostalgia of the original cast, but overall, I thought it was just good, not great. This one was felt great to me.

                      here's the two cent's of a Lifelong(41 years old today,so i THINK i'm "The Old Man" here...)Star Trek/Star Wars Nerd:
TFA-It's honestly not bad as a set-up story for a new Trilogy,if you think about it.True enough,it is on the Safe side of the Series(but you could argue that about New Hope&Phantom Menace as well) but it works fantastic as a "set-up movie",if you will....

Rogue One-If you take the movie by itself,it shows that, while the Rebel's were still considered "Good Guy's"(By comparison to the Empire),they weren't the nicest of people in that force.Just remember this:For every George Washington in a Rebellion, there's always a Benedict Arnold in the shadows.
I could take or leave the Droid, for the most part...

                          Re: Star wars: Rogue one

Still haven't seen Rogue One yet (someone just keeps pooping... like ALL THE TIME..)

but i have been watching the other movies pretty much all the time the last week or so..

and OMG, the original trio are just soooo bad. I love 'em.. but maaaaan.. how can we be so hypercritical of all these newer movies and give the originals such a pass?

I only say this because it tends to temper my own personal criticisms.. and if its going to endear me to the originals to point out all the crazy dumb shizzle (like why did they still have to fly thru the Death Star in RotJ; when half of it wasn't even completed yet?); then perhaps i will let this stuff endear me to the newer ones..

Sounds like I'm gonna enjoy it.. in three years when i finally get out of the house...

and yeah, i enjoyed TFA; but man, the familiar parts just seemed way too abundant.. perhaps as a part of a new trilogy it will have its own place.

Well, to be fair, they were ground breaking at the time and set the pace for absolutely everything else that came after.
And did not have to deal with the internet to be picked apart constantly...

This is a great bridge though. Episode 3.5 as it were...
