Has anyone picked up all the Young Animal titles, from DC?

I got Doom Patrol and am planning on checking out Mother Panic.

Marvel's Star Wars and Darth Vader comics have both been really good. It's too bad that the Darth Vader series is ending at #25.

I've been reading the green lantern and aquaman series.

Green Lantern is great buddy cop series so far. Jessica and Simon play off each other in the best way. It's like good untrained cop and bad trained cop.

Aquaman though is stealing the show IMHO. So far it's got great politics and has a sub plot of black manta.

Just when you thought Civil War 2 couldn't get worse, Carol (I think it's supposed to be Carol, the speaker is off-screen and doesn't continue talking the next panel so it's also a failure of basic art layout too.) tells Magneto, who I remind you is a holocaust survivor, "Right, I forgot. You're that guy online who compares everything to Hitler" to "retort" his fear that precrime is going to lead to camps. Classy Marvel!

                  UGH.

Can we please have villains back?

This hero-vs-hero rubbish is simply that... pure garbage.

I couldn't agree more. I like to limit my selection based slot on this. I think any series about a team will do it. Solo books though? That's where you find the villains.

I liked the issue of "Scooby Doo Team-Up" with Hawkman and Hawkgirl. I still have to find the one where they meet the Marvel Family.

Seriously, everyone go out and buy it. This was a jacket uniform away from being absolute perfection. We need more Captain Marvel stories like this and less of Nu-Shazam talking about how champagne tastes like piss.

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Hm, I might need to check a full list of all the current comics, as some of mine have been shaken up. Though I'd be lying if I said that Marvel & DC dropping some of the books I was reading should help make my "To-Read Pile" a little bit smaller.

Black Canary had great art, but the whole thing was very weird. It was like... she was a martial artist ex-government agent in a ROCK BAND, who fought aliens and mystical musicians... and the book seemed to have no clue that it was absurd as hell. How do you play Jem & The Holograms With Fisticuffs and Aliens completely straight? Never mind they completely changed tactics halfway through the book and turned it into a "Dinah's Evil Aunt & The Secret of the Exploding Palm" or whatever the hell. It had a good final issue at least, and the book was never predictable. Full credit for at least doing something new.

But seriously- this had "Quirky Comedy" written ALL OVER IT as an idea, and it really didn't go anywhere.

Starfire was fantastic, and I'm sad it was cancelled. They made Kori both Fanservicey and not a giant Super-Skank, which at times can be a balancing act- the trick is to have her be sweet and smiling to EVERYONE- not the "Do you want to have sex with me?" chick from that awful "Nu52" book. The book was 90% comedy, which made the occasional "action" bit stand out a little weirdly, and I didn't care for the second artist, but the first one was terrific.

Mark Waid's All-New Avengers was a disappointment. I liked how the first arc used some forgotten villains and made the team kind of a "we just ended up together" crew, but it started meandering around WAY too quickly, had a weird bit where Vision went evil due to someone else's control WAY early in the run (NEVER have someone go out-of-character early!), and then a big crossover screwed up the book. I really got no feel for this crew as a team, and Waid had plenty of issues to do that.

The Sunspot-led Avengers book has been easily the best of the lot. Someone I know said that "Ewing is going to be the next Mark Waid", and it really shows. The book is FUNNY, and makes jokes out of the absurdity of comics (Ewing did the same thing with his Luke Cage-led Avengers book before Secret Wars rebooted everything). Stuff like using a giant American Flag-draped mech against "The American Kaiju" alongside clandestine triple-agent stuff. Plus, Songbird is on an Avengers team! FINALLY!

Unlike Waid's A-book, this one didn't get screwed over by the Pleasant Hill crossover- it seems like Ewing had more of a plan in place for it.

All-New Inhumans was just cancelled, which was too bad. It's easy to snark on the "Inhumans Push" as it feels largely like a political move, but Asmus was good, and Caselli (whose work I last saw on The Initiative, making me wonder what else I've missed of his in the past.... god I'm old... TEN YEARS) has great art. Though some of the kids STILL suffer from the fact that they introduced them too quickly and then failed to have real "team-ups", and often spends many issues focusing on only 1-2 characters (I often forget the names and personalities of the people starring in these! And Crystal was basically the MAIN CHARACTER, yet missed almost half the run!), many of the issues were good. The African Inhuman city of "Utolan" featured in a recent arc, and it was not only pretty good, it got some mileage out of Ana Kravenoff of all people!

The Ultimates is still quite interesting- they have a few weak issues here and there, but it's very much an "Idea Book" that focuses on what the Cosmology of Marvel looks like, and WAY different than Ewing's Avengers title in theme and style, which speaks highly of him as a writer. I'm actually liking the Blue Marvel of all people (and I hated the idea of ANOTHER Supermanalogue running around Marvel). Though this new Ms. America character is a complete non-entity in the series (she has said and done basically NOTHING, and seems to only contribute "being another minority" to the group), and despite Ewing's backing of Monica Rambeau as a character, he has yet to do a single interesting thing with her in the THREE YEARS I've read of his books featuring her (in his Cage-Avengers book, she was supposed to lead the team, but ended up missing for issues at a time as he focused on other characters)!

and this is EXACTLY why i didn't bother picking this up from the beginning.. It wreaked of not being given enough of a chance or push.

I've had my heart crushed way too much, and this one I just knew was gonna get the same treatment again..

Scarlet Spider me once Marvel!, but I won't fall for it a second time! (who'm I kidding, the minute they break ground on the Speedball/Rage buddy cop roadtrip book.. i'll be singing praise from the rafters)
