    Anyone check this out?

I'm only a couple of episodes in, but so far it's pretty good. Capcom apparently liked it enough to fund it and its sequel.

Re: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist miniseries

You've restored my faith in the franchise. I didn't think I'd ever be able to enjoy Street Fighter again after some friends from work insisted we should all go see the live action version with Jean Claude Van Damm and Raul Julia in back in '94 (or maybe it was '95... It's been awhile). The icing on the cake was having those same friends tell me how they thought the movie was great...

I'm hoping this new series will give me some sense of closure after the last couple decades of bad memories.

NOTE: I no longer have any contact with any of those former friends.

Re: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist miniseries

The first Street Fighter live film was really, really bad, but I found Raul's performance to be entertaining. He chewed the scenery and gave one of the best villain responses to a hero's origin story.

"I'm sorry, but I don't remember any of this. For you, the day the glorious General Bison visited your village was the most important day of your life. For me, it was Tuesday."

The look on Chun-Li's face was priceless. He'd just completely kicked her legs out from under her.

But yeah, I REALLY enjoyed this. This could well be the best adaptation of Street Fighter to any other media. Its only competition is that first Street Fighter II animated movie, and the only reason that one comes close is because of some VERY well choreographed fight scenes (Ryu vs Sagat, Ryu vs Fei Long, Chun-Li vs Vega) and it had Chun-Li in the shower. But in terms of everything but the fights, Assassin's Fist wins hands down, and its own fight scenes are very well done.

Re: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist miniseries

The scene where Raul Julia delivered that line is literally the only good memory I have from my time sitting in the movie theater that evening. That line was good, but it's nowhere near enough to make up for the rest. Out of respect for Raul Julia, I'll give the movie 3 out of 10 stars instead of 2 out of 10.

That said, Assassin's Fist is very nearly as good as I could ever hope to see come out of Street Fighter. The weakest aspect, for me, is the script... But considering the source material, I think they worked a minor miracle. I've seen far worse, many times over, from bigger budget, Hollywood productions.

The choreography was very well done. The acting wasn't perfect, but it was surprisingly good. I'd say the same goes for the special effects.

I'm a bit torn on where I'd rank Assassin's Fist... I'm generally pretty stingy with the stars, but this one made me smile more than I expected, so I'll give it 7 out of 10.

It's downright amazing how a fan-made film that started out as a Kickstarter (before Capcom came in and funded it) managed to not only be more faithful to the source material, but actually good, compared to not one, but TWO live action big budget Hollywood films, both of which sucked hard. And if you thought seeing Jean Claude Van Dam play the American Guile was bad, you haven't seen anything with how bad Legend of Chun-Li was. I would watch Raul chew the scenery twice, back to back, before I'd watch Legend of Chun-Li again.

Re: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist miniseries

Just started watching this, and while I'm not a great fan of Street Fighter (my best friends in high school were, so I picked up a lot of it from them), so far it's been amazing. Not all the way through yet, but it's just awesomeness.

I especially liked Ken's line "Wait, who the hell's Dan?!?"

Do Ken & Ryu finally have sex in this one? Because I totally ship that.

Sadly, no. But the bromance is strong in this series. The fight between the two was somewhat obviously scripted (or rather, it was very video-game-y in that there were pauses where you could almost hear the button mashed combos - but that just might be my imagination), but the series was still an over-all awesome.

Here's to hoping there's a continuation that actually goes into the actual Street Fighter story(ies) in the game(s) with all the other fighters.

Re: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist miniseries

It's a really well made series all over. I was excited to hear that the sequel Street Fighter: World Warrior is in the works.

Something that is especially impressive in this series is how they manage to walk that line between fan-service and legit story-telling. Little touches like adding various characters theme music, or explaining Ryu and Ken's bouncing combat stance coming from Western boxing training. At the same time the characters all have a clear motivation for their actions, and all the action is in service to the plot. Each character wants something, and takes actions to achieve that goal. I know this sounds like something obvious, but its a basic element of story-telling that is often overlooked.

One small nitpicky issue I would bring up is that there is an episode where Ryu and Ken head to a GI bar and rough up some American soldiers. This was the perfect place for a Guile cameo and it just didn't happen. Guile's theme would have gone so well with that scene!
