  • Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer

So, the Age of Ultron trailer got leaked early, but rather than work round the clock trying to get rid of it, Marvel has instead uploaded it themselves onto YouTube:

    Thoughts?

    NICE.

Was not expecting them to try and make Ultron so creepy. I'm actually interested in him as a villain now.

Regarding that .gif of Iron Man in the Hulkbuster armour, I can't help but chuckle that Stark's already wearing his regular helmet, and then he gets an extra helmet on top of it.

The shot of the ballerinas makes me think they're going to delve into Black Widow's back story. Maybe they'll clear up how she ended up being a seven year old KGB operative.

At about the 1:32 mark, there's a sweaty, beardy dude, and I can't figure out who it's supposed to be. I assume he's important because the trailer lingers on his close-up for a second and a half. Looks like he has a tattoo on the back of his neck.

If its anything like other Hulkbuster style suits, then Tony is actually wearing two suits of armor: The first is the basic kind he normally wears, and then he's wearing the Hulkbuster suit on top of that one. And frankly, I'd want as much protection between my head and the Hulk's fist as possible.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer

I'm very excited for this and even more so after finally seeing and hearing Ultron (James Spader's voice seems to fit him oh so perfectly here) in the flesh..er...metal. They did a good job giving the trailer a dark/deep foreboding vibe, even with Ultron singing a song from Pinocchio.

As for who the bearded guy is, it looks like Andy Serkis, but I can't for the life of me think of who he would be playing. Someone online mentioned he kind of looked like Ulysses Klaw, which could make sense since they did shoot some scenes in South Africa.

I noticed that at about 15 seconds into the trailer when the mob was yelling both Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were there and Quicksilver didn't have his silver hair, which has me a bit curious what exactly their back stories are going to be since I doubt they'll go the mutant route, if they even can legally.

Fuck YES. Now THAT is how Ultron is meant to sound. Utterly inhuman and emotionless, despite bringing forth some kind of deliberate, sinister malice. James Spader's creepy, monotonous voice is PERFECT for that kind of thing. Still not sure about Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch (two of my least-favourite Avengers), but I have trust in this franchise.

A couple thoughts beyond the basic...oooooo, kewl.

I imagine that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are both going to be empowered by Ultron somehow, giving them an immediate connection with the Vision.

Bearded guy could be Ulysses Klaw, which could be nice, because it could foreshadow a Black Panther movie. It could also be Maximus the Mad. Since the "mutant" avenue of superpowers is closed to Marvel due to Fox's ownership of "X" properties, I wouldn't be surprised if the MCU fell back on Terrigenesis as a way to impart superhuman abilities. An appearance by Maximus would almost certainly foreshadow an Inhumans movie.

Since Marvel likes to build connective threads through their films, I wouldn't be surprised. Also, this film is the perfecty set up for CA3: Civil War. Think about it, Tony has taken it upon himself to protect the world much in the way S.H.I.E.L.D. did, but his efforts give rise to Ultron. I can't see Tony letting one little mistake dissuade him from plugging away at his self-appointed mission, but I can see CA objecting highly to its' continuation, given the result. This will set Cap against Tony in a conflict over how best to defend the world. Tony will remain a steadfast supporter of his A.I. based philosphy, while Cap will champion a more human-centric solution.

That's my take away anyway. I could be completely off the mark on all of it, but it's as logical a progression as any and Marvel does so love connective tissue between their properties.

May can not get here soon enough. The bearded guy is Andy Serkis and there's no character name listed for him at IMDB. Klaw would be great.

I think I'm going to watch that trailer about ten times today. Uh-mazing.

They've already shown Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver having powers pre-ultron, unless they go the route of having Ultron flashbacks prior to the earlier movies showing his construction.

The Captain America 2 trailer sequence actually showed they're using SW and QS but instead of tying them to Magneto, they're having them be the new "Strucker Twins".

The team Marvel has had behind the movies has done a good job so far. Like anything there have been highs and lows, but it takes time to build a world and characters and the relationships between the characters. This trailer looks like AoU will be one of the highs.

So... at the end of Iron Man 3 he flushes like a gizzilion dollars away by blowing the suits... and here... he has at least two more, one of which is a substantial upgrade...

                        Other than that... woah.

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer

I like to pretend Iron Man 3 never happened, given the huge steamy mess it was in terms of missed opportunities and failure.

As for the trailer itself, it looks pretty cool thus far, but my only real issue is Ultron's face at the end. That he's got visible eyes and a moving mouth just bothers me for some reason. The Evil Ominous Metal Jack O'Lantern look is iconic of the character, giving him a moving mouth and pupils just takes away the menace of the look, makes him more human. Darth Vader is a perfect example of a guy who had a faceless mask through three films and always managed to convey a deep air of menace thanks to his sheer presence and the performance of both of his actors. Ultron could easily be that as well, and I don't see a reason to 'humanize' his appearance.

I'm hoping Ultron will get less and less human looking as time goes on in the film, because I'm not a fan of that particular look as of now.

Huh...you and I fall on opposite sides of this preference for certain Ares. I was afraid ol' pumpkin head would be nothing but an expressionless metal face with glowy eyes and a glowy mouth. Of course I didn't find IM3 all that offensive a film. Did they miss some opportunities with it? Sure, but that's the norm with any film. I remember when IM2 came out and people were screaming over how awful it was too. About the only thing I groaned over besides making Justin Hammer an absolute clod (how did he get so rich if he's so incompetent?) was the "cross the streams", ghostbusters tactics employed to defeat Vanko. Other people thought it was clever and funny. It didn't ruin the movie for me though.

Anyway, back on subject, I like the look they've given Ultron and from this trailer alone, I can see how the MCU could just blossom outward from here. I'm with 'penny...May cannot get here fast enough.

trailer is awesome.. there's almost (almost) too much going on.. my brain is befuddled trying to piece it all together.

One thing i took away was "who's the samurai?".

There's a brief scene around the time we see Andy Serkis of someone seemingly jumping to cover someone else from a wall being smashed in.. we don't see anything like a face but the outfit really looks like the back of a yellow samurai outfit..

                              Who DAT?!?!

                              And where's The Vision!??!
