Sergeant Nexxy Stormbringer is one of the few surviving members of Spectre Legion, as far as she knows she could very well be the last. Spectre Legion (official designation 313th Assault Legion, Detached) was one of the Empire's elite military units with a record of battlefield achievements rivaled only by the Republic's infamous Havok Squad. Don't be surprised if you've never heard of Spectre Legion, that's just the way the Empire wanted things. But, we're getting ahead of ourselves, this is Nexxy's story.

Nexxy Stormbringer was born in an isolated Zabrak settlement on the inhospitable world of Tatooine. Isolated and inhospitable are how most Zabrak prefer their homes and Nexxy's family was no exception. Life on the desert world was tough, but the girl had her family so her life was good and never dull.

When Nexxy was roughly seven standard years-old, her aunt came home from some grand adventure on a far away world. She had nothing to show for her travels but some battle scars and an exotic trinket. In the months after her aunt's return, life on Tatooine became much more difficult. The Jawas stopped trading with the settlement and Sandpeople raids came much more frequently. It was nothing Nexxy's family couldn't handle until the day the slavers came.

The slavers' raid was a model of ruthless efficiency which still gives Nexxy nightmares. From the hiding place her parents had found for her, Nexxy could only watch as the other members of her family desperately fought to avoid capture. The only adults who avoided being caught by the slavers were those who died in the fight. The fight was followed by grueling hours of watching the surviving members of her family being tortured as their captors searched the settlement for something other than fresh slaves. Eventually, the slavers gave up their search and took their captives into the desert.

A few days later Spectre Legion arrived at the Zabrak settlement. They were also looking for something. Like the slavers, they didn't find what they were looking for, but they did find a tired, frightened, and hungry alien child. The troopers took the girl to their leader and asked what they should do with her. The commander shrugged and said, "Find some slavers and sell it, I suppose."

The child panicked. There was no way she was going to let the slavers get her. Desperate, the girl grabbed the commander's arm and bit. The leader pried the child from his arm and tossed her to the ground. Then the commander looked at his arm and laughed, "It left bite marks in my armor! That one's a regular Nexu cat." The legionnaires laughed and someone suggested keeping "Nexxy" as a pet. So Nexxy was adopted as Spectre Legion's mascot and grew up among the Imperial troops.

As soon as she was old enough, Nexxy enlisted in the Imperial Legions. The recruiting officer objected to enlisting an alien, but his objections were overridden by the presence of a half-dozen fully armed Spectre Legionnaires. When Major Branthis assured the recruiter that Nexxy could already field strip an assault blaster faster than the recruiter could, the recruiter happily endorsed her assignment to Spectre Legion.

When her military training began in earnest, Nexxy chose to specialize as a medic. Though she wouldn't express it in those terms for fear of being mocked, she came to think of Spectre Legion as her second family. As a medic, she would be in the best position to care for her family. The young Zabrak exhibited a talent for healing and became a fine medic. However, the rest of Spectre Legion would laugh that Nexxy put the "combat" in combat medic as her version of preventive medicine was shooting the opposition before they had a chance to shoot her team mates.

Life in Spectre Legion gave Nexxy plenty of opportunities to practice her marksmanship as well as medicine. Spectre Legion was a special operations unit specializing in the location and extraction of unusual artifacts, technology, and individuals. Even during the years of truce between the Empire and the Republic, there were plenty of things for Sprectre Legion to take from people who weren't willing to surrender them to the Empire. Yet the artifacts, technology, and individuals Spectre Legion acquired never made their way to the Imperial Reclamation Service.

Some time before Nexxy's "adoption," Grand Moff Kilran took Spectre Legion off the official rolls and turned the elite legion into his personal troubleshooting squad. The Moff wanted a strike team independent of the Dark Council's meddling or Imperial Security's spies, so he made Spectre that team. The items Spectre Legion captured were sent directly to Kilran's personal collections, or if appropriate, used by the legionnaires themselves.

All of this palace intrigue was way beyond Sgt. Stormbringer's pay grade, but that didn't keep her out of trouble when the poodoo struck the ventilation unit. It was only a matter of time before Spectre Legion's activities came to the attention of both the Dark Council and Imperial Security. With little time to avoid having his personal involvement with Spectre Legion exposed, Kilran did what any intelligent, self-serving Moff would do: He set his unknowing minions up to take the fall.

Spectre Legion was raiding a massive alien research station when the Dark Council issued the proclamation declaring the Legion a renegade outfit. Fighting their way past swarms of hostile aliens was nothing new for Spectre Legion, but having their fleet support turn on them and a team of Sith inquisitors on their tails was. Spectre Legion was decimated and the legionnaires' only hope for survival was splitting up with each trooper going their own way.

Nexxy Stormbringer was one of the few members of her team to escape the trap. She knows the accusations against Spectre Legion are baseless, but unless she can find conclusive evidence of the frame up and powerful allies to support getting the evidence heard, she's powerless to do anything about it. The best she can do for now is stay alive, help any Spectre she can find, and look for an opportunity to strike back.

Nexxy's light brown complexion would let her pass for human if it weren't for her horns; not that she'd want to pass for human. Her unruly brown hair is worn short by human standards, but long by Zabraki. Nexxy has the traditional Zabraki tribal tattoos, but anyone familiar with Zabraki culture will realize they lack the intensity and detail of most--a sign that her initiation rituals were cut short in early childhood.

Imperial Bounties: That's right, bounties, plural. Technically wanted as a deserter and a fugitive member of a treasonous unit, Nexxy has a standard Imperial Death Mark on her head. She's also learned that an unknown Sith Lord has filed a contract with the BBA payable on her being delivered alive to Dromand Kaas. This is offset by a non-sanctioned bounty for delivery of Nexxy's dead body to Grand Moff Kilran's flagship. The "no disintegrations" clause in all of these bounties is small consolation to her.

Loyalty-Spectre Legion: Nexxy remains steadfast in her devotion to Spectre Legion and her fellow legionnaires. After Tatooine, the Legion was her family. No matter what machinations transpired between Grand Moff Kilran and the Dark Council, and regardless of the filth and lies that have been told about the Legion, Spectre Legion was loyal to the Emperor and to each other until the very end. Kilran and the Council burned away Nexxy's loyalty to the Empire, but she'll wrench planets out of their orbits if she learns it could help a fellow Sprectre in trouble.

Phobia-Slavers: Coming of age in the Spectre Legion's barracks and years of fighting with the Legion have not diminished the primordial fear Nexxy feels about slavers. Encounters with slave-hunters trigger an irrational flight-or-fight response tending towards flight. The normally staid trooper reverts to the emotional seven year-old hiding from the people who wiped out her first family.

Nexxy Stormbringer is not the name she was born with. Stormbringer is a rough translation of her Zabraki family name to Basic. Nexxy learned early on that correcting an Imperial officer's mispronunciation of an alien name was bad for one's career prospects. Stormbringer sounds like a warrior's name in Basic, so she stuck with the translation. Nexxy is the name Spectre Legion gave her fifteen years ago when they adopted her as the unit mascot. Her given name translates to Desert Flower, which doesn't sound so tough, so she's kept her old nickname.

I'm keeping the exact nature of the exotic trinket Nexxy's aunt brought home intentionally vague so the GM has the option of using it as a McGuffin at some future date. Nexxy knows where her aunt hid the trinket, but it would take hours of Jedi mind games or the equivalent to get past the trauma of the slavers' raid and unlock the memory.
Exact details of what Nexxy has been up to since the Spectre Legion was betrayed are open pending consultation with Catsi and others.
