The Bat Family already has loads and loads of characters if you just stick to the cape-and-cowl set. We can't keep every supporting character around too.
    A - YAY, Batgirl's back!!!

B - Gotham jobber order received. We're currently in the midst of filling another order, but I believe we can ship Double Dare, the Cavalier and Captain Stingaree by the weekend.

C - Julia Pennyworth is back in Batman Eternal, which I swore I wasn't going to buy, but I am weak...

You mean the character that just appeared in Batman Eternal issue 9?

I gotta say about The Enforcers, too- their former boss, The Big Man, actually ended up being a neat character. Initially a useless Generic Crimeboss, Frederick Foswell later became the Daily Bugle's Crime Reporter once he got out of jail. He was a bit nasty and hard to deal with, but Jameson trusted him- unwisely, it turned out, as Foswell was actually part of The Kingpin's empire. When Jameson refused to stop posting stories about Wilson Fisk's empire, The Kingpin had him murdered... only Foswell jumped in front of the bullet, sacrificing himself for "the one man who took a chance on me when I got out of prison!"

There was a second Big Man to appear in Marvel Team-Up, who also used the Enforcers as "his" primary muscle. It turns out that this Big Man was actually the daughter of Frederick Foswell, the original Big Man and in a gang war, she was shot and killed by the second Crime Master, Nick Lewis jr. who was the son of the original Crime Master.

          Comics are weird.

Enemy: Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Shao Kahn.

Responsibility: Win the Mortal Kombat Tournament and bring honor back to the Lin Kuei.
Rivalry: With Scorpion and Noob Saibot, who is his resurrected brother.

                Abilities 70 + Skills 20 (40 ranks) + Advantages 13 + Powers 30 + Defenses 17 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: For some odd reason, all of a sudden, the Little Thorpacolypses and their friends have rediscovered Mortal Kombat (2011 version) on the PS3 and they play it all the time now. And trash my basement…but I digress. So it got me back in the mood to do some builds, since my youngest asked me to play with him and we had a blast. I even won a couple of matches!

And for those of you that plan on having kids in the future, when they ask you to play, unless there’s a really good freakin’ reason, PLAY WITH THEM, no matter how old they are or how much you don’t want to. You’ll regret it when they don’t ask you anymore, trust me.

Anyway, Liu Kang may be the “champion” of the MK series, but I don’t think anyone will debate that Sub Zero is the biggest crossover star. I was having a hard time determining what PL I wanted the MK characters to be in the new Thorpocaverse. On one hand, they do some pretty powerful stuff and in MK vs. DC, they hang with the big boys of the DCU. On the other hand, depending on who’s playing them, they can also be quite inaccurate and you can see them easily being defeated by a lower level comic character. So I went with PL9 for most of them, PL10 for the big stars and bosses like Goro, PL11 and above for the big bads. As usual, I reserve the right to change my mind later. I wanted them to be a threat to my Batman, but not enough to where if 2-3 of them ganged up on him, he’d be overmatched.

Secret Origins: There are two incarnations of Sub-Zero, and they are siblings: the older brother Bi-Han and younger brother Kuai Liang. The brothers were sons of a Chinese Cryomancer father and a human mother in Earthrealm. Cryomancers are an Outworld race possessing the ability to generate and control the powers of ice. Only the younger Sub-Zero would discover his heritage. Both are blue garbed warriors that have served the Lin Kuei.

It is known that the father of both brothers was a secret operative for the Lin Kuei in the United States. He married an American woman and together they had two sons. The brothers were kidnapped as children by the Lin Kuei and trained as ninja assassins.

The Story so Far: Bi-Han appeared as Sub-Zero in the first Mortal Kombat tourney, while Kuai Liang went by the codename "Tundra". After Bi-Han was murdered by Scorpion during the tournament, Kuai Liang swore revenge. He mastered the art of Ice and Cold, and took his brother's former code name: Sub-Zero. Driven by anger, Kuai Liang entered The Mortal Kombat Tournament with one goal: To destroy his brother's killer, and anyone else that gets in the way.

Bi Han later was resurrected by Quan Chi and became the undead Netherrealm wraith Noob Saibot and the two have come into conflict many times. Kuai Lang continues to try and undo the corruption in his undead brother’s soul, but so far as failed and he has a great hatred of Quan Chi for what he did.

While the younger Sub-Zero was depicted as a young Lin Kuei warrior who was living in the shadow of his older brother, he has since changed and grown into a warrior who has progressed towards the more humane sides of moral issues. This change in characteristics has not only strengthened him as a man, but has also set him apart from his former Lin Kuei counterparts. This included leaving his clan in disgust and breaking the sacred codes of honor, joining the rebellion against Shao Kahn and assisting Raiden and Liu Kang (along with Earthrealm's other chosen warriors).

Characterization: The younger Sub-Zero clearly shares many traits with his older brother, and was perhaps too similar to his brother upon his introduction. Like the elder, the younger Sub-Zero gives the impression of being a stern, distant and cold man who goes about his business silently, without attracting unwanted attention. However, as time progressed, Sub-Zero evolved into a man of great integrity and self-discipline.

He is a dependable ally of Earthrealm who is willing to assist when needed, especially when Raiden gives the call. He is without question one of the greatest and most powerful warriors that Earthrealm has to offer.

Friends and Foes: Sub-Zero and Scorpion were bitter enemies for ages because Scorpion’s belief that Bi-Han killed him and his family and in return he killed Bi-Han, making Kuai Lang seek him out for vengeance. Once it was revealed that Quan Chi was behind the death of Scorpion’s family, the two of them have reached a civil understanding, but neither could be considered an ally of the other.

                  Build Comments: GET OVER ‘ERE!

I was thinking of more villains I could add to the Thorpacoverse so I figured I would grab a few from different media than comics. So I’m adding to my MK line with fan favorite Scorpion. I built Scorpion to be Sub-Zero’s equal with just a few differences to separate them a bit. Basically an MnM palette swap.

I borrowed Jab’s mechanic for his COME ‘ERE Spear and I really want to test it to see how it works.

Secret Origins: Scorpion" is the code name of the ninja named Hanzo Hasashi, formerly one of the finest warriors of the Japanese ninja clan Shirai Ryu. It is known that his father, a former member of the Shirai Ryu, forbade his son from joining the ninja clan, as he did not wish for his son to live the life of an assassin. However, Hanzo joined in spite of his father's wishes in order to provide his wife and son with a comfortable life.

After he was originally killed by Sub-Zero of the rival Japanese clan of assassins the Lin Kuei, Scorpion became a hellspawned revenant residing in the Netherrealm underworld and seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his family.

The Story so Far: Scorpion is introduced in the first Mortal Kombat game as a dead warrior who entere into the Mortal Kombat tournament seeking vengeance against Sub-Zero, the man who killed him. Scorpion manages to kill his target, but later learns that Sub-Zero plans to compete in the second tournament. Enraged at the idea that his nemesis has somehow returned, Scorpion tracks him down during the tournament. He realizes that this Sub-Zero was actually his killer's younger brother, who was sent to complete his brother's failed mission of assassinating the tournament's host Shang Tsung. As a result, Scorpion vows to serve as the new Sub-Zero's guardian in atonement for killing his older brother.

After competing in the next two MK tourney, he disappeared for a while but returned when Shao Kahn tries to conquer the Netherealm after his invasion of Earth and enlisted the ninja in his forces. Scorpion's allegiance to Kahn quickly dissolved when he discovered that Sub-Zero was one of Earth's chosen warriors, with whom he then sided in their final showdown with Kahn. Later was tricked by Quan Chi to believe that the younger Sub-Zero was actually involved in the deaths of his family and clan and joins Quan Chi. Scorpion emerged victorious against the new Sub-Zero, but when Quan Chi revealed the truth afterward, Scorpion grabbed the sorcerer to send him to the Netherealm. However, soon Scorpion was attacked by the Oni Drahmin and Moloch, who freed the sorcerer from the Netherealm.

Scorpion continued hunting Quan Chi and eventually met the Elder Gods, who gave him a new mission to seek and destroy Onaga before he would unmake the realms.

Characterization: Now Scorpion is a hell-spawned spectre, inexorably seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his own family. Despite his malevolent appearance, he is not inherently evil. He joined the forces of evil when promised a means of resurrecting his clan on Earth, or the chance to inflict his wrath against those who butchered them. Scorpion has also (indirectly) assisted other heroes to fulfill these motives.

Friends and Foes: Although essentially neutral in allegiance, Scorpion will ally with anyone who can assist his plans of revenge. He was once manipulated by Quan Chi, whom he promised his life in exchange for his impressive combat abilities in order to defeat Sub-Zero.

Responsibility: To protect Earthrealm and fulfill his duties as the reigning Mortal Kombat champion.

                    Abilities 84 + Skills 24 (48 ranks) + Advantages 20 + Powers 7 + Defenses 15 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: If there’s a main hero of the MK setting, it’s Liu Kang. He may look like Shang Chi and Bruce Lee’s kid brother, but he’s a bad ass. He’s the one “hero” that gets a PL10 build, and it’s been earned. He didn’t help me win against my son playing Kratos the other night, but still, I at least took my son to the 3rd match with him, even though I was way outmatched in skill.

As a build, he’s the best of the main fighters overall, hitting his pull PL10 caps and is loaded with enough Advantages to give him a chance against higher level foes and if you throw a few HP at him, look out. I made the Dragon Kick the first real “finisher” that I’ve done, similar to how I’ve handled finishing moves for my wrestling builds. It’s uncontrolled so that you can use it for a dramatic ending shot. With 4 ranks of Improved Kritikal, it’s DEFINITELY a match ender.

Secret Origins: Orphaned as a child, Liu Kang was taken in by the Order of Light's Shaolin Temple, hidden in the mountains of Honan Province in China. Trained in the teachings of the Great Kung Lao, Liu Kang's talent in the martial arts caught the attention of Lord Raiden. Raiden saw Earthrealm's last hope in the young warrior monk, and took Liu Kang to see the legendary Outworld master of martial arts, Bo' Rai Cho to further the young Shaolin's development. After several years Liu Kang's training was complete, and then he was enrolled into the top secret White Lotus Society, an order of warriors created by Raiden to defend the Earthrealm.

The Story so Far: As the tenth generation of the Mortal Kombat Tournament approached, Liu Kang was summoned by Shaolin Grandmaster Wu, and was sent by the Temple of Light to defeat Shang Tsung. He desired to defeat Shang Tsung and bring the tournament back to its Shaolin owners. As he made his way to the tournament, he met and became friends with movie star Johnny Cage and Special Forces agent Sonya Blade. At the time of Liu Kang's entry, Outworld had won nine Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row. It is unknown which opponents Kang fought throughout the tournament, but he eventually earned the right to challenge Goro, the current Champion of Mortal Kombat. By exploiting the Shokan's overconfidence, Liu Kang defeated Goro and became the new Champion. Upon hearing of Goro's defeat, Shang Tsung challenged him.

After an epic battle, Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung with his Flying Kick taught to him by Bo' Rai Cho, causing the destruction of the island fortress due to Shang Tsung's defeat, then returned home from the destruction as the new Mortal Kombat Champion.

Coming home from Tsung's Island, he found many of his Shaolin killed in a vicious attack by a Tarkatan horde. Enraged, Liu Kang decided to travel to Outworld, backed by fellow White Lotus member and spiritual brother Kung Lao, Raiden, Sub-Zero (the younger brother of the original Sub-Zero who was killed by Scorpion), and Smoke to seek revenge. Before he traveled to Outworld, Liu Kang went to Hollywood to seek Johnny Cage's help.

Luckily, Liu Kang arrived at the right time as Cage was being attacked by a Tarkatan horde. Now joined with Johnny and Sonya's superior Jax Briggs, they finally traveled to Outworld. At the tournament, he and Kung Lao met Kitana, and Liu Kang began to fall in love with her. He learned the true nature of the Outworld tournament but competed anyway. While it is unclear as to what matches took place, it is known that Liu Kang fought Shao Kahn, eventually overpowering the emperor. It is also strongly possible he also faced Shang Tsung in front of Shao Kahn, defeating him despite his youth and renewed powers, and Kintaro as well. Near defeat, Kahn ordered his forces to destroy the earth fighters, forcing Earth's heroes to return home and to begin preparing for the coming invasion.

After returning to Earthrealm, Liu Kang, along with Kung Lao, began training a new generation of Shaolin Warriors, but was interrupted when the invasion began. As Kahn's extermination squads were sent to kill Earth's chosen warriors, Liu Kang found himself the primary target. Kung Lao, who went against Shao Kahn, was nearly killed by a powerful spell. Enraged, Liu Kang challenged the Emperor to Mortal Kombat, and after the final battle, he defeated Shao Kahn again, causing him and his forces to retreat back to Outworld. The souls that Kahn had trapped were set free and, just before the portal closed, Liu Kang was thanked by Kitana for his part in saving both Earth and her realm from Shao Kahn.

Liu Kang traveled to America to look for a new generation of Shaolin warriors to train. While there in America, he met his old friend Kai. The two then traveled back to China, where Liu Kang trained Kai to be a Shaolin Warrior. However, the peace was not to last, as the fallen Elder God Shinnok had escaped from the Netherrealm through a portal to Edenia. Upon learning that Kitana had been captured, Liu Kang set out on his own to save her, but he was unsuccessful. Liu Kang returned to Earth, where he began gathering Earth's warriors to save Earth and assist his mentor, Raiden.

Eventually, Liu Kang confronted the fallen Elder God Shinnok and once again emerged victorious, effectively ending his attack on Earth. Liu Kang returned to the Shaolin Temples, believing he has lost Kitana forever. However, the Edenian Princess appeared through a portal from Edenia and thanked Liu Kang for all he had done. She offered him a chance to join her at the throne of Edenia. However, due to the responsibilities as a Mortal Kombat Champion, Liu Kang was forced to decline her offer.

Liu Kang eventually stepped down as Mortal Kombat Champion and went out a sabbatical for unknown reasons. He has not been seen in some time.

Characterization: Liu Kang is a heroic and loyal warrior, and one of the greatest fighters in either world.

Friends and Foes: Liu Kang has many allies on Earthrealm, including Jax, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage and others. He is an enemy of Shang Tsung, Shinnock, Shao Kahn and the Tarkata. He and Kitana have had a mutual attraction for years, but have never truly taken their relationship any further because of their duties.

Build Comments: The renaissance of MK at the house led my youngest to want to watch the legendary Mortal Kombat movie. Ergo, he got to experience the awesomeness that is Johnny Cage in that movie. He got all the best lines and he got to pwn Goro himself!

So I loves me some Johnny Cage. I never played him much before, and when I ran him recently, my son pwned me, but still, his X-Ray and his yapping make him a fun play.

Secret Origins: Johnny Cage is a Hollywood movie star. Originally entering the Mortal Kombat tournament to display his fighting skills and prove himself to skeptical movie critics and the movie-viewing public, who believed Cage was nothing more than an actor who relied too much on stunts and camera work and was not a real proficient fighter.

The Story so Far: He went to the harbor and waited for the ship that would take him to Shang Tsung's island, along with his agent and personal secretary. Both were fearful about his security, and tried to convince him to not attend the tournament. Cage, however, said that no one would even touch him. After he boarded the ship, Cage was harassed by the Black Dragon leader known as Kano and his allies. A fellow Shaolin Monk named Liu Kang managed to help Cage, beating several of the thugs, while the superstar attacked a distracted Kano, knocking him down with a Shadow Kick. After the brawl, Cage and Kang presented each other. Arriving at the island, Cage joined forces with Liu Kang and Sonya, a member of the United States Special Forces, and during the tournament, they became great friends. Johnny, Liu Kang and Sonya formed an alliance to protect Earthrealm and they were mentored by the Thunder God, Raiden. During the final battle between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, Johnny teamed up with Sonya and Kano to fight Goro near the pit. When Shang Tsung's island fortress began to crumble because of his defeat at the hands of Liu Kang, Raiden saved Johnny and dropped him off at a boat that belonged to the Special Forces Agency near the island. There, he met Major Jackson Briggs and was interrogated by him on the whereabouts of Sonya. Johnny told Jax all about the events on the island, but the major didn't believe him. After Johnny was set free, he made the movie Mortal Kombat, based on his experiences.

Due to a recording from Sonya received by the U.S. Special Forces, Jax realized that Cage's version of the history was true and the Major went to meet with the superstar once more to personally apologize for disbelieving him. Not long after that, Cage was shooting a commercial and was suddenly attacked by a revitalized Shang Tsung, Kintaro, Baraka, Kitana, Mileena, and Jade. At the same time that Jax arrived in the set, Cage was violently blasted through the wall right in front of him. Jax managed to help him fight against the invaders, taking on the mighty Shokan, Kintaro. They were later joined by the other Earthrealm warriors who helped them fight the horde off. Raiden appeared, put an end to the fight, and Shang Tsung proposed a new Mortal Kombat tournament. Once again, Johnny reunited with his allies to protect Earthrealm, traveling into Outworld. Eventually, Liu Kang challenged Shao Kahn, proving again that he was the true champion of Mortal Kombat; Kang defeated the emperor, beating him within inches of his life.

After his defeat at the hands of Liu Kang, Shao Kahn led a massive invasion against Earthrealm in order to take this realm by force. Earthrealm was attacked by Kahn's extermination squad, and during this entire riot, Johnny Cage was killed in a fight against Motaro, leader of Kahn's forces. Cage's soul was unable to ascend to a higher plane of existence, and returned to its body. Cage then became one of the chosen warriors fighting against Kahn's invasion.

After Shao Kahn’s defeat at the hands of Liu Kang, Johnny’s soul was free to leave to a higher place. Johnny watched from the heavens as the events unfolded and the fallen Elder God Shinnok attacked Earthrealm. Johnny Cage sought out Raiden so that he could restore his deceased soul; the restoration of Johnny's soul allowed him to fight alongside the Earthrealm defenders once more and to help defeat Shinnok. After the defeat of Shinnok, it appeared as though Raiden’s revival of Cage was permanent as he did not ascend back to the heavens but instead remained on Earth.

Characterization: A Hollywood action movie star, Johnny Cage's most important role has been protecting Earthrealm from the forces of Evil.

Friends and Foes: He has forged friendships with the other Earthrealm warriors like Liu Kang, Sonya Blade and Jax.

I think it speaks volumes about the age differences between the Lil'Thorpocalpses and my youthful wards that he didn't make one single 'Frozen' reference in the Sub-Zero build.

I have nothing constructive to say, so.... Here's a freebie.

Do you wanna build a Shao Khan? (It doesn't have to be a Shao Khan.)

All I know is that every Ice Character I've built since that movie came out includes at least one- there's more Elsa puns in my Iceman build than in my ELSA build!

Nice Kombatants, Thorp- though your kids must be older than I thought if you're letting them play the game that lets you shred bodies like they're made of plasticine. I agree that PL 10 works for the elites, while PL 9 works for the "others". How many of the gang are you planning on building?

They're 14 and 10, and my youngest has LONG been desensitized to video game violence. I really tried, but our friends' kids are mostly older so I gave up after a while. And he's pretty normal, his football coaches are actually on him all the time about being MORE aggressive so I'm not sure I buy the video game violence being the root of all evil.

My older one, however, is a total Frozen freak (he's the theatre fan in the fam, Jab, he'd love to chat with you about your New York trip), so believe me, I get all the references and if he was a little younger, I'm sure we'd have all the toys and such like we did with all the High School Musical and other trendy shows throughout the years.

As far as how many I'm building, I'm not sure. Maybe 10, maybe 20, depends on my attention span. I have about 10 more done, but as Kenmadragon mentions below, I'd like to do some testing before I go much further to make sure my mechanics are sound. I borrowed a lot from your builds, but I am trying to limit their special ability usage so that there's plenty of the hand to hand kombat that we all know and love. Plus, I see them getting some tests against some of my street level types like Daredevil, the TMNT, the Bat family, etc. and I think their powers might throw off the balance.

I have nothing constructive to say, so.... Here's a freebie.

Do you wanna build a Shao Khan? (It doesn't have to be a Shao Khan.)
You could also have gone with:

Do you want to build a Shokan?
Kome on, let's go and play
                                I don't like Goro anymore
                                Sheeva's a bore
                                I'm Kintaro all the way...

Done AND done. However, I am toying with something along those lines for a group activity, similar to Jab's Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat Tourney. Let me give it some more thought and I might start a new collab thread for it. But I'm illin' today, I had to bail on my online group since I was supposed to run MnM, but this whole post pretty much wiped me out, which is a sad state of affairs and tells me I made the right call. Kinda hard to run a game when you have to lay down every hour or so...
