        Complications
        Bee-rum - Professor Beeswax must ingest his formula once a day or he will uncontrollably revert to his swarm form.

        Punderful - Professor Beeswax is constantly cracking terrible jokes (if at all possible while inserting a bee pun). This causes him to be a prime target for most enemies who want him to shut up.

        Backstory
        Professor Aaron Apitry was a professor of Entomology at NYU until one day he developed a serum that should have allowed him to understand bees. It worked, but with the added side effect of transforming him into a sentient hive! With some effort, he realized that he could reconstitute himself, although he quickly learned that the serum has altered his DNA and he would need to imbibe it once every 24 hours or lose the ability to regain his natural form. He now travels the country as a swarm of bees, choosing to use his powers for the good of mankind by pollinating anything he comes across (and stopping a bad guy here and there).

        Notes
        This was one of the characters created for my first ever M&M campaign in 2E. He has since been updated into 3E and makes sporadic appearances in most games that I run.

          - Bee Blast is mechanically fine; but don't you think it's a bit hard to justify BY DESCRIPTOR? I mean, Ranged Damage 10 is roughly equivalent to a bazooka or a light tank-gun, strong enough to blow up armored vehicles or blast through concrete walls. Is a bee-swarm really that destructive? Ok, maybe it's "super-bees" capable of chewing through stone & metal at extreme speeds...
          - Control Bees is IMHO very lopsided. On the one hand, the Instant Recovery flaw makes it awkward to use (since it lasts only 1 round). On the other, it's total overkill for affecting bees: A bee (or even a swarm of bees) is most likely a minion with a very low will save. That means a lower rank will do fine, and you can apply the Limited Degree (3rd only) flaw (since minions always suffer the maximum effect on a failed save, controlled in this case). Also, I think "Limited to bees" is worth at least a -2/rank flaw.
          - The "Limited to living creatures flaw" on Anaphylaxis is not valid - it targets the fortitude save, and constructs & objects are already immune to that. Suggestion: Replace it with the Injected flaw (Gadget Guides pg 25); it's just a version of the Resistible flaw, granting the target an additional toughness save against the affliction (this should nicely simulate the bees' problems with stinging through armor).

            The point is that I was not even thinking about what Insubstantial actually does (for some reason). This has been fixed.

              Complications
              Motivation - Hank has no problem with powers being used to better the bearers life if it has no negative ramifications for others. That being said Hank realizes the havoc that a group like N.E.M.E.S.I.S. can wreak.

              Backstory
              Hank always had an affinity for the water and practically had gills as a child. From that early beginning he quickly became the star of the swimming team. He got a scholarship to college and began dominating there as well. With thoughts of Olympic gold beginning to dance in his head, Hank began the most intense training sessions of his life. Half-day long training sessions left his body sore but he began to feel at one with the water. The tragic day came only six months before he was off to the Olympics. Diving into the water to start warm-ups, Hank noticed something was off. He was far too winded for only being in the pool for 15 minutes. Hoping for a second wind he pushed on. Quickly things got worse. Suddenly he was at the bottom of the pool. Trying to move into a position to kick off and get back to the surface he realizes he can’t move. Panicked and trapped he passes out. Berrance revives him outside the pool a minute later. Training is much the same for the following week. It takes a month for the pair to realize what has actually happened. With clues from events from outside the pool as well they learn Hank can change the density in objects and himself with relative ease. Now embarrassed to re-enter the world of swimming Hank began to learn how to control his powers, and eventually found uses for them. It’s been three years since he was gifted his new talents. With a particular flair for how he stops his enemies he was swiftly nicknamed “Sinker” by local media, the irony only known to Hank and Berrance.

                Doesn't mind what people do with their powers as long as they don't hurt anyone with them. Cautious of people with extreme powers.

                Backstory
                Blake was is the army when his powers activated six years ago. He was hidden from his team and put into a off the books task force. Before he was in the army because he was a nobody going nowhere.and most of his time was just standing around on guard. Never saw any action. Now he was sent to attack and kill in secret. This put a lot of strain on him. He only went on a few missions before pretending that his powers stopped working altogether. Then he was tortured and studied by army scientist to try and bring back his powers. Blake to resist his instincts in using his power for protection. Eventually the army dropped him off in the middle of nowhere USA and manipulated his army records to say he's now in the reserves.

                      Complications
                      To help people, save them when necessary, and stop others from hurting them whenever possible. His father, who was a kind and generous man, once told him “the world is a hard enough place for all of us- why not help when you can?” and lived up to that principle. That always stuck with him; despite all his feelings of self-loathing and worthlessness, doing anything less would be letting his father down.

                      That being said...because of his precarious emotional state and years of repressed anger, there is a significant risk that given enough additional trauma (emotional or physical) or the proper manipulation, he could eventually give in to hate and turn to the “Dark Side.”

                      Backstory
                      His father, a dental equipment salesman, died in a car accident when he was 13. He had no other close relatives, his father being an orphan and his mother leaving her religiously repressive, cult-like family to run off with his father. His mother, while loving in her way, suffers from manic depression and alcoholism. Obviously things did not go swimmingly through his teenage years. He grew up feeling lost in the world, unwanted and alone. He graduated from high school and continued working at the grocery store he worked at through high school. Never dated anyone or had a girlfriend, as his self-image was far too poor to even attempt to ask a girl out. Once his mutation began to take effect, he left his job and his home to wander. His one attempt to visit his mother following his full transformation sent her into hysterics, and he ran.

                      He is generally a very kind person and does not want to see anyone come to harm; however due to his troubled home life and pre-existing tendencies towards depression and repressed anger towards the world at large, the changes brought on by this affliction have made him a very unhappy individual- he sees himself as repugnant and outcast from the world at large, although ironically his outward appearance only now matches how he has felt inside for years.

                      Due to a mutated skin disorder similar to psoriasis, he has extremely thick, hardened skin similar to very thick (approx. 3/4 inch) callus tissue over all parts of the body; this leaves him with a very unattractive appearance and an overall yellowish/orangish, slightly translucent skin. This has the side benefit of making him highly resistant to damage as well as extremes of temperature and pressure. As part of the mutagenic process his muscular and circulatory systems adapted to compensate, resulting in not only the strength necessary to carry around the extra weight, but also evolved beyond that to the point that he can lift a small car into the air with significant effort. His thickened, hardened skin is equivalent to an armor plating, but is not completely invulnerable; high-caliber bullets will still be stopped but will often lodge in the skin, and need to be pried out later. He can sustain significant impact from being struck by objects (sledgehammer, vehicle at moderate speed) or falling a few stories without damage. His epidermis can be cut by hard enough, sharp enough objects (most swords would fail, unless wielded by someone with super strength), and can be shaved off in the same way. High heat (flame) can cause the skin to char and melt slightly, but as long as he is not exposed to it for a prolonged period of time he would suffer no ill effects provided he can hold his breath long enough. While he does not realize it now, over time he will figure out that the thickened skin can be shaped with pressure into spikes on his knuckles, ridges, etc.

                      The downsides of this “power,” however, are numerous. He is somewhat horrific to look at; due to the thickness and density of the tissue covering his entire body his sense of touch is nearly nonexistent. Due to his increased bulk it is difficult to dress himself or complete hygiene activities- going to the bathroom is...interesting. Due to these issues he rarely wears anything beyond a pair of sweatpants or warm-up pants, as they are baggy and easy to take on and off. Luckily he was already a highly agile and dextrous individual prior to these changes; otherwise he would have extreme difficulty doing just about anything.

                      Despite this, he does recognize his ability to help others in need and feels some obligation to follow through. He has taken to the streets at night and fought robbers, muggers, drug dealers, and the like.
