The traditional fortress of Lord Fell has always been called Desolace. In this thread, where he rules with an iron hand, all his creations will dwell. He will also speak of himself in the third person unapologetically.

    Re: The Realms of Desolace

    Myron Frost, Lord of Brass

The original version, with all appropriate links from the original Atomic Think Tank can be found here

    History
For the past 300 years, the Lord Frost served as the Court Sorcerer to the Kings of Gulzaar, one of the many autonomous "kingdoms" within the stagnating and ever decentralizing Imperii Totius (the Mabelodim empire). Gulzaar would be an idyllic fief of picturesque beaches and the swamps could have been drained into fertile farmlands, were the rulers not a line of petty, brutal men. The kings of Gulzaar - descendants of the first Mabelodim generals stationed in the region - enslaved their populace, and paid tribute to Lord Frost (the elder, and then the younger) in goods and slaves. When Frost the Younger died, and his heir Myron ascended the basalt throne in the Tower of Frost... he shocked the kingdom when he announced that he would not assume the traditional mantle of Court Sorcerer.

When Myron set forth to pursue his own goals, his departure engulfed the kingdom in civil war. The withdrawal of the Court Sorcerer's support emboldened the populace against the King. However, the fate of a Republic of Gulzaar is precarious. The bulk of the Mabelodim empire had long since fragmented, but there is no shortage of contenders for its successor state in Gulzaar.

    Personality & Motivation
On the surface, Myron is cold and calculating. He is certainly reserved, and knows how to be brutally pragmatic. This is purely defensive; he grew up "behind enemy lines," and isn't used to trusting anyone. To him, Family and Enemy were synonyms. Those who Myron learns to trust, will find that he has an untapped reserve of warmth and love. These rare individuals will find in Myron a ferocious loyalty. Although Myron wants to follow a new path, he spent his childhood surrounded by the darkest of lore, and horrific rituals, he can be inaccessible at times... and does not possess much of a sense of humour.

    Description
Myron is a man of average height, he is slim of build with long limbs and fingers. He has naturally pale skin, which some human nobles have been resorting to powder to emulate. He wears his golden-red hair in a long, intricate coif that spills over the collars of his shirt, coat or cloak. Like many gingers, his eyes are green, but his skin is unfreckled. Myron wears rich clothes, primarily in black but with gold-trimmed, red accent pieces. At his neck, he wears a heavy amulet of a dark (almost bloody) red metal, in the shape of a single, churning gear.

    Complications
In addition to his Melnibonean heritage, Myron's bloodline is darkly tainted. His heritage may be noticeable to mystics, and will almost certainly draw the attention of Old Ones or them from Outside.
With his magic, Myron is able to shape his body the way he wants -for the most part his appearance is exactly the same. However, his left leg is crippled and malformed -in any situation where he is unable to cast spells, he suffers a -2 circumstance check to Athletic and Acrobatic checks.
Myron's heritage lets him control magic more easily. Unlike a wizard that is powerless without a staff, Myron can still control magic without any focus... but without his amulet, increase the casting time of any of his spells by one stage.
Myron grew up in a home with a dark reputation, which it more than deserved. His father, and grandfather used the blackest of magic to prop up a petty warlord as a brutal tyrant. Myron feels only disdain for the twisted self interest of his king, instead finding admiration for the line of Pendragon. This enlightened world view, can lead Myron down a road of self-loathing. Given the opportunity, he may choose absolution and oblivion in a single blaze of glory.

The Brass Engine, in its most elemental configuration is something of a cross between the steam-engine of a train, and a gargoyle. A mass of moving pistons, churning gears, and what might be a pair of contented, lamp-light eyes. The Brass Engine will clank into a new configuration suitable to its current task, depending on its configuration, it can be about 10 feet across and weighs about 3,000 pounds. The construct is made entirely out of a deep, reddish metal, and embossed with potent runes. Bound Fire Sprites and Water Sprites provide the creatures potency, however these elementals are in conflict with each other, and subservient to an overmind -the necromantically raised spirit of a well-trained, even-tempered mastiff.

      Re: The Realms of Desolace

      Tyffani Porsche Forbes

      Background:
Tyffani Porsche Forbes grew up sheltered in every sense of the word. Wealthy parents, posh private school, she is truly the poster child for "first world problems."

Her life was fairly typical and uneventful for a girl of her background. Mostly her concerns are maintaining her social status in her peer group. This means adherence to the current fashion, being on the cutting edge of pop-culture, and the social engineering to manipulate and dominate other adolescent girls, as well as the boys cool enough to aspire to attend her “court.”

Tyffani has one other concern that she keeps very, very secret… with the exception of the Reddit group she’s come out anonymously to. Not that she’s all diesel and stuff, but that she’s a mutie. Mutated American. Homo Superior. Whatever.
      What-Ever.
She’s come to realize she has super powers, and the powers aren’t related to a secret serum, or magic ring, or alien probing… her parents aren’t Superhuman (or are they?), so she must be a mutant. So… what does she do about this?

Following rumours, tracking down leads, doing a bit of social engineering and even a bit of hacking, Tyffani is relatively certain that she has found a “school for supers.” All she needs to do now, is convince her parents they need to transfer her from Rutherford Institute for Scholastic Excellence to Vaughan Academy. Like… OMG. Too easy.

      Complications:
Cute Puppy Syndrome: Tyffani is an extremely attractive young girl and her parents are rich. As a rule, this means that she gets whatever she wants, and never has to take responsibility for her actions. Whenever her grades were less than stellar, she didn't have to study harder, her parents phoned the school. She is spoiled, self-absorbed, and badly in need of behaviour modification with a leash and a rolled up newspaper.
Master of Deception: Tyffani can tell a bald faced lie with such conviction, she can easily beat a polygraph. A huge part of her success is that when she takes it upon herself to prevaricate, her commitment to her falsehood is so great that she sometimes believes it herself. Whenever she lies, especially when she uses a Deception Feat, there is a possibility that she changes her own remembrance of events. When appropriate, she ought to make a Will Save vs. DC 15.
Family Obligations: Tyffani is the baby of the family. Her brother Ferrari Jacob Jr. still lives at home. Her mom Amber Lynn Stafford-Forbes is a stay at home mom, or more accurately socialite. Her dad Jacob Wyman Forbes is an executive with some sort of company. Maybe Law, or something? He isn't around all the time, but he can jet into town at a moment’s notice. Her parents do not (yet) know that their daughter is a metahuman.
Star of Her Own Show: Her upbringing has led to a dangerously self-centered world view. At the moment, Bubblepop can't see past the idea that she's a superhero... which means that she wins. Because that's the way it is.

      Personality & Motivation:
Tyffani is of the upper echelon of popular girls, and for the most part, conforms to the stereotypes. She talks about celebrities as if she knows them, and the minutia and gossip of their lives is actually important to her. She is a card-carrying member of the Cell-Phone Generation; she will answer a text while talking face-to-face with a real person, and she will L.O.L. without a hint of self-consciousness.

To some degree her “mean-girl” persona is a façade. She isn’t quite as shallow or self-absorbed as she makes out. She still frequents Reddit, posting and reading anonymously. Anonymity allows her to be more honest about her own (few) insecurities and feelings, and more empathetic about the problems of those around her and real world issues that her public persona is too cool to worry about.

Her motivations for becoming a superhero are tied to a completely unrealistic world view. Because she is... who she is... it seems perfectly natural to her that she would have special gifts, or super powers. And since she is special, it is only appropriate that a mentor would approach her, to guide her towards some greater destiny. She doesn't have any particular appreciation for justice, or a sense of personal responsibility. She just thinks this is the way things are supposed to be.

Tyffani is in for some huge reality cheques, and she might not have enough in the bank to cover them.

      Description:
She is blonde, visibly self-absorbed, and has enormous blue eyes. A dash of freckles across her nose works like an accent to draw attention to the beauty of her face. Tyffani’s mom is a major league trophy wife, and she is the heir to her mother’s looks. Since discovering her powers, Tyffani has taken up an assortment of activities with the kind of ruthless single-mindedness that has made her Dad a zillionaire; gymnastics and racquetball primarily; this has given her a lean, toned frame.

Tyffani’s parents are “private jet” rich. Her dad has a seven figure salary and a nine figure net-worth. They have placed a very generous allowance at her disposal, and a tearful phone-call home is generally all that’s stopping her from acquiring more.

Bouncing Bubble: Leaping 8 (Flaw: Activation, Requires Acrobatics check) {linked} Enhanced Feats: Agile Feint, Dodge 4, Parry 4, Evasion 2) 14 +2 AP
This power is more "bouncing" than actual "leaping." She cannot just leap -she has to "trampoline" herself to get some altitude before she can start bouncing (leaping)... or jump off something high. Finally, bouncing isn't the most precise form of movement. Normally, the Acrobatics check dictates the highest Leaping Rank that she can use, in this case the Acrobatics dictates accuracy. If she is making a Distance 8 leap, the DC is 18, and if she fails, she is "off target" by a distance of 1 for every point the check is failed by.
AE: Force Bubble: Protection 6; Extra: Impervious, Flaw: Sustained; {Linked} Immunity Suffocation
Bubblepop can surround herself in a semi-transparent pink bubble. It is sealed against gas and liquid. However, the air supply is limited to what's already inside the bubble, so the immunity to suffocation comes with a time limit (a Complication).
AE: Bubble Shot Ranged Damage 6 (Feats: Ricochet 2)
Bubblepop can create and throw palm-sized balls of pink force, which she can bounce of walls to strike enemies with surprising accuracy.

        Re: The Realms of Desolace

        ”Tyffani Porsche Forbes”

        Background:
Silver spoon? Try platinum. Tyffani isn’t really sure what her dad, Jacob Wyman Forbes does to earn a living, she tends to get… bored or something when he talks work. You know… because it’s boring. In any case… J.W. has a mansion in Beverly Hills, a beach house in Miami, a ranch in Arizona, penthouse apartments in Manhattan and Washington D.C. Jacob’s business takes him to all of these places, and he travels regularly. Often, but not always, he is accompanied by his wife (and Tyffani’s mom) Amber-Lynn Stafford-Forbes.

Mr. and Mrs. Forbes agreed that it would be too difficult for their children to try to go to school in five different districts. Their older child, Ferrari Jacob Junior went to prep school in New York, and is currently enrolled at Stanford. Their second child, Tyffani started school in Los Angeles… but Amber was concerned that Tyffani was not concentrating on her studies, and Jacob agreed. Which brings us to the other, less frequented Forbes residence. Jacob maintains a chalet in Stonebrook, Colorado. Normally, this “modest” home is reserved for skiing trips, and occasionally Christmas. Jacob & Amber agreed that the smaller community would be a stabilizing environment, and the private school in town seemed suitable.

Tyffani was “super thrilled” to discover she was going to be spending her Sophomore and Senior highschool years in podunk Colorado. At the moment, her biggest concerns involve going to prom, figuring out which boy is likely to be Prom King (since she's going to be Prom Queen, duh). Also, whether to spend a year abroad before going to college, and which college she should go to.

When appropriate, at GM discretion, Tyffani's recollection of events actually change.
Minors, Parents & Guardians, oh my! The main concern Mr. and Mrs. Forbes have, is that in Los Angeles Tyffani might fall in with a “movie producer” or some other sleazeball conman, or worse, a straight up, bonafide bad-guy with a lot of charisma. Because neither of them has the time (or inclination) to spend much time in Stonebrook, they made sure that there was adequate staff available at the house to look after it and more importantly their daughter. Nominally, Tyffani’s guardian while in Stonebrook is Mr. Chamberlain Withers. He is an imposing, greying black gentleman with a stiff left knee. Without a doubt, Mr. Withers has had some military service, and most normal people would think twice, if not three times before crossing him. Chamberlain’s official duties are butler and chauffeur… but arguably, his most important duty is to ensure Tyffani’s young gentleman callers have a firm understanding of the nature of Mortality.

Because most of her friends are back in California, Tyffani has been exploring the online world, and as an unintended consequence, becoming marginally less shallow. “Link Roulette” is a thing… nothing like doing a Google search for Fossil Fuels, ending up reading about Elon Musk on Reddit, and then killing an hour on The Oatmeal… and forgetting that you were supposed to be writing an essay on the history of the automobile.

Tyffani has also joined the crew of Redditors. Somewhat at random, she drew the attention of an internet sexual predator. She trolled the guy just long enough to get logs, screen captures and enough personal details to forward to the FBI. She’s made this into something of a hobby.

Also, Bouncing isn’t as accurate as many movements. She can bounce as far as she wants, but the accuracy is limited by an Acrobatics check; failing the check changes the accuracy of the jump by the number failed by.

Protection 7; Flaw: Sustained; {Linked} Feature: Isolated Air Supply
Tyffani can surround herself in a semi-transparent pink bubble. It is sealed against gas and liquid. However, the air supply is limited to what's already inside the bubble.

        Bubble Shot 18pp
Ranged Damage 6 (Extras: Accurate 3, Ricochet 3)
Tyffani can create and throw palm-sized balls of pink force, which she can bounce of walls to strike enemies with surprising accuracy.
        The Forbes’ Stonebrook Chalet
Chalet is a misleading term for a residence with six upper bedrooms (sumptuously appointed, each with a walk-in closet and en suite and six lower bedrooms (more modest rooms, for staff, there are 3 semi-shared bathrooms in this wing). The house features a small outdoor pool and hot tub, solarium, rock garden, a theatre room, and games room. There is also a panic room. The attached, six-port garage currently hosts Jacob’s Escalade pickup, Tyffani’s Tiguan, a 4-door Lincoln town-car, and a BMW station-wagon.
        The Staff
Margaret Turnbull –The Major Domo of the house. Ms. Turnbull has been a teacher and a chef. She manages the household finances, and hosts a family meal most evenings. She is kindly, but firm. Given cause, she has unlimited authority to discipline the house staff, and also (to a limited degree) Tyffani.
Chamberlain Withers –If Margaret was hired with an eye to being a maternal figure, Mr. Withers role is the patriarch of the house. His role is not so much to provide fatherly wisdom or paternal advice… more as a protector. He has the appropriate license to carry a concealed firearm, which he does, and also a pair of brass knuckles and a switchblade. There is also a locked steel case containing a collection of weapons of debatable legality in his closet. Mr. Withers is a military veteran with combat experience, and quite possibly a former CIA operative (this is either true, or something Withers is happy to let people think, as it makes him seem just a tiny bit more dangerous).

There are also three “kids” who are collectively responsible for House-keeping and Grounds-keeping duties. They receive room & board, a small stipend, and a scholarship to a local college. Their selection was also based on the likelihood they would be good role-models, or at least wouldn’t corrupt Tyffani.
Concepcion “Penny” Lopez –she is 19, and hard working. She’s putting her scholarship towards getting her Journeyman Mechanic’s ticket. She’s not the good Catholic her parents expect her to be though, and may have slightly made out with Tyffani already…
Matthew Timmins –fair haired and fine featured, Matthew also does a killer drag act at LGBT club “The Yodeller,” under the stage name Paisley Peacock. By day, he studies Sociology.
Corinne Gustav –The eldest of the Student-staff, she is bright eyed, with a perky smile and equally perky tits. The local boys are terribly disappointed that she’s already taken a Vow of Chastity, as she is working towards a Degree in Theology with an eye to becoming a minister.

          Re: The Realms of Desolace

          Blacklight

          History:
When Faith Farmer got out of Highschool, she had a major quandary. Her dream was to become an Astronaut; she dreamed of other worlds and seeing the stars. The problem was, career path. The kind of Astronaut she wanted to be has a lot of science knowledge and an exceptional level of physical fitness. The economics of getting a Masters degree in the Sciences, just wasn’t feasible for her fairly modest family. The only really viable option would be to join the Armed Forces –a route many Astronauts take. Unfortunately, Faith considers herself to be a Conscientious Objector. Her more realistic, fallback plan was to apprentice as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic… and so, somewhat morosely, Faith was shopping online for coveralls when fate was slapped off the rails. Guy Gardner of the Green Lanterns was knocking on the door, asking after her.

The history of Ring Wielders in Sector 2814 has always been fraught with a certain amount of chaos and uncertainty. The Ring(s) in the sector have been passed willy-nilly in all manner of ways. Perhaps no Green Lantern in the history of the Corps has had a more tumultuous path than Guy Gardner. His status is now stable, and he has been a senior, unassigned Green Lantern for over a decade now… but looking in the mirror, he can see a touch of grey. Not wanting a repeat of Abin Sur’s chaotic succession, Guy has undertaken to find his own apprentice and successor. As Abin Sur did, he let his ring seek out suitable replacements... which he vetoed until he found the "right" candidate. The fact that his hand selected candidate was a hot young girl ... well, actually that's typical Guy.

Faith considered Guy’s offer, a Google search of his exploits had given her some trepidation… his younger self had been quite the brash provocateur, not at all a hero she would want to emulate. However, what he offered would open the door to her dreams. She set aside her reluctance and became Guy Gardner’s apprentice. She spent a few months following Guy Gardner around, and doing Apprentice type things. Actually... being his Apprentice seemed mostly to mean being a cheerleader while he did Lantern Corps things. She tactfully suggested that if she were going to be his Apprentice, she should get some actual training, or something. After a moments thought, he told her he'd need to consult The Guardians. Next day... Guy told her they were going to Oa.

On the Lantern Homeworld, Faith spent what would be considered, roughly a semester in study. She spent time with the Guardians, learning, debating and meditating on Philosophy, Morality and Ethics. In the Great Hall, she spent time with the Lantern Kilowog. He taught her the technical aspects of being a Green Lantern. From him, she also learned a great deal about alien technology. In Kilowog, Faith found a role-model who was both gentle and resolute. Also on Oa, Faith met the Wild Warrior Woman of the Corps, Boodikka. When Boodikka learned that Faith was to be Guy Gardner's Apprentice, she got a strange look in her eye... and then she insisted Faith study unarmed combat with her. From Boodikka, Faith learned the value of appropriately channeled rage.

While working with Kilowog, Faith began to build a device that would allow her to take a more active role as an apprentice, and also approximate the powers of a Lantern Ring. She was rather disappointed to learn she would not be given a Ring, at least for now. The device she made was a "solid energy projector." Initially, she tried to make the energy it created green, but she found that the end product was unstable. She continued to experiment with colours, but eventually she determined the only colour she could make stable was black (with the faintest purple tint). When Guy returned to bring her back to Earth, one of the Guardians announced to him that Faith would be a suitable Apprentice... which came as a surprise to her; not that she was suitable, but rather that Guy didn't have final say on the matter.

          Personality & Motivation:
In the last 6 months, Faith has been learning that a lot of things she thought she was, she really isn't. For example, she previously considered herself to be Goth/Emo, destined for some sort of dark martyrdom. Now she sees that she has a capacity to enact change in a positive fashion. Faith always considered herself something of a pacifist, but she’s reconciled herself that sometimes… you just have to fight. Right now, Faith’s biggest problem is that it might be another 10 years before Guy retires. While it is possible that she might be called to wield a Ring in a different sector, this isn’t something Faith is inclined to count on.

          Complications:
Growing Pains Guy selected Faith to be his apprentice without doing a lot of background research. Had he done so… he’d have realized a lot of her core values don’t mesh with his. He operated on two primary criteria; his Ring selected her as suitable, and he thought she was a hot & kinky barely legal. Guy is in for a major reality check about his protégé, and they are on a collision course for conflict.
Doesn't Look the Type The tattoos and piercings Faith sports aren't typical Super Heroine accessories. She doesn't have a specific uniform or costume when she's "on duty," but she does wear only black and purple... again, not colours that one associates with Heroes. Given her youth and her "Suicide Girl" style, she is not always taken seriously as a Hero, and could even be mistaken for a Villain.
Open Minded... to a Fault Faith is not going to judge a book by its cover (which is why she might throw on an outfit best described as Demonic Highschool Girl and wonder why people are hesitant to accept she's a hero). As a rule, she will only make Insight checks to gauge emotional state, rather than ulterior motives.
It's OK to be Takei Faith is bisexual, and was always a supporter of LGBTQ causes in school. Guy tends to see Faith with Porn-Coloured glasses, so to him this means "Threesome!" Hey, a Mentor should teach his Protégé Everything, right? However, since Guy is politically conservative, this will actually mean that they are going to have a Clash of Core Values in the future.

          Description:
This is Faith and these are her piercings. The only real constants of her appearance are her height, weight, tattoos and piercings... unless she adds tattoos or piercings. In "costume" she only wears black and purple. When she is "in civvies" she wears ... well, mostly black, but other colours as well.

She briefly considered wearing a domino mask to protect her identity, but with her facial piercings and hair, she realized this would be pointless.

          Design Notes:
I wanted the Black Light Projector to do the main things a GL Ring does, but in a clunky fashion. Instead of just using a Blast (descriptor flying hammer) Faith actually has to create an object and physically throw it. Similarly her melee attack requires her to create a weapon and actually wield it.

Alternate Identity: Master Cheng Lei Man
            Height: 5’7”
            Weight: 140
Hair: Black, with rare white strands intermixed.
            Eyes: Brown

Description: Master Cheng is a Chinese man who appears to be a well preserved 40. In general, he maintains a clean-shaven visage and wears traditional Mandarin pants and jacket. His favourite colour is yellow, and in all likelihood, his clothing will heavily feature it. He has several scars on the insides of his forearms.

History: The Cheng family settled in Xinjiang province in western China. Cheng Lo Wan (Lei Man’s father) made a home for himself and his young wife, making a living as a woodworker. Lo Wan was ecstatic when his bride announced she was pregnant with their first child. His shop was doing well, and life was good, and the Chengs were happy. But, the pregnancy did not go well and Lo Wan’s wife died giving birth.

The community helped Lo Wan as much as they could, but after a year… two years… three… the village elders came together. They decided that Lo Wan was becoming more sad, rather than less. They should make long term plans to look after his young son. And so, Third Uncle took young Lei Man up the mountains to a monastery, and asked the Brothers there to look after the child. Lei Man grew up in the monastery, doing chores and learning the arts of the monastery.

When Lei Man was a young man, a supply caravan brought a gift for Lei Man; it was a cricket cage made by his father Lo Wan. Lei Man was relieved to receive this… he knew that it meant his father had come to terms with his grief, and had been able to rejoin his community. Already a young man, Lei Man decided his place was at the Monastery, and he returned to his studies. However, the cricket cage his father made him would become his most cherished possession (only possession really).

Years passed, and Lei Man became Master Cheng, an instructor at the Monastery. Despite the remote location, tales of the war came to the mountains, and the elders meditated on the affairs of the outside world. They reluctantly agreed that they should aid the fight against Imperial Tojo and Fascist Hitler. Since Lei Man was the youngest of the masters, and therefore the most spry, it was agreed that he would go forth.

Personality & Motivation: One does not become a Kung Fu Master without extraordinary dedication and patience. Master Cheng is also very humble. Among all the Brothers who have lived, studied and worked at the Monastery, Cheng is currently the youngest who has been awarded the title Master.

Master Cheng has spent almost all of his life in a remote, cloistered order. He will be shy around women. He will be polite to men; even rough and aggressive men. He will also be surprised and delighted by modern marvels of technology. As an aesthetic, Cheng will be quietly appreciative of natural wonders; animals and insects not native to China will draw his attention most definitely.

            Complications:
Ah, so sorry! As a very traditional Chinese man, who dresses in a very traditional style, Cheng is likely to draw a certain amount of discrimination. If he is mistaken for a Japanese man (which is to say, a damn dirty jap back-stabber), situations could even become violent.
Way of the Master There are certain behaviours and codes one must follow to be a Kung Fu master. As much as Cheng might claim to be a simple scholar, he is a Master. He will fight or duel to defend the honour of his School. He will also only use honorable tactics in personal combat.
One of Many People Although Master Cheng and his monastery are from a remote corner of the country, he and his fellow monks are still Chinese. His countries problems are his problems. The elders of his country have asked him to perform a duty to his nation.
