  • Series Pitches: Settings You Want to Do But Only Have A Paragraph

I can't be the only person who gets ideas but can never follow through on them. Here's a thread for all those settings you want to pitch but don't have enough material for a full thread.

    Agents of L.A.N.T.E.R.N.

Legal Agents for the Neutralization of Threats via Encounter, Response, and Negotiation. (We can't all be Stan Lee.)

In the Lanternverse all superheroes must belong to LANTERN if they want to fight evil internationally. For many UN member countries LANTERN also handles their domestic supering, and for most others LANTERN is in charge of extradimensionally-related disturbances.

Other dimensions is where all the weird stuff comes from: in the Lanternverse there aren't any space-faring civilizations. Most super-stuff can be traced back to the mysterious furry aliens known as the Tek, and ultimately to the very random multiversal power known as Wild Force.

Tone-wise Agents of LANTERN is a mix of Saturday morning cartoons and Agents of SHIELD/Marvel Cinematic U (especially lack of ostentatious costumes), with a definite emphasis on the idea that you can have powers and still be normal (abnormality is the PC's job). In terms of how to actually build it you start with the skeleton of the Freedom City Universe, and in Marvel Cinematic, then relegate anyone who could perform a non-heroic/villainous function to background character roles (e.g. Bruce Wayne is an old philanthropist, Clark Kent is a reporter (who may or may not use his super-powers openly); meanwhile Thor probably can't be anything other than a superhero).

    Ex-Heroes

As per the well-known book series, you are one of a handful of superheroes who survived the zombie apocalypse. With your abilities, the zombies can't hurt you and you can squash them pretty effortlessly, but what does the ability to cloud men's minds, or to smash one zombie head at a time, do to save humanity? Can you rally angry citizens to farm with your Flag Shield? How do you deal with villains with powers who've carved out their own empires which enslave the populace, but keep them safe? Ideally, the pitch would have the players build their characters as usual and then throw them into the apocalypse to prevent someone from playing "Create Food and Water Guy".

      The Warring Elements:
The elements are alive, sentient even. For billions of years now they've been somnolent and lethargic, but now, latent human psychic potential has reached such heights that the Old Powers are wakened, at last. Each element has chosen two avatars, one male, one female, to expand their influence in the mortal sphere.

These Old Powers are not Classical Greek elements, however: rather, they're the literal elements on the Periodic Table of Elements. Alien and chthonic, the Old Powers have unfeeling, clinical designs for the radical transformation of the Earth...

        Incarnate Gods:
The gods've died; the titans murdered them. The titans died; the gods killed them. Heaven and Hell now stand bereft of leadership.

But, divine power cannot so easily die, and both gods and titans are now reincarnating in human form, and magic again covers the Earth like a comforting---and terrifying!---blanket. In addition to reincarnated divinities, sorcerers re-emerge, leaving their dimensional strongholds for the first time in centuries to seek new apprentices.

          AGENTS OF ARTIFICE
The world is full of the Supernatural:The Monster's that no one wants to talk about, the Creatures just at the edges of society that Feast on those poor, lost souls that are listed under "Missing Persons"&"Amber Alerts"....That's where we come in:We're the people who are considered "Kooks" and "Conspiracy Theorist's",Those that know the trut&choose to do something about it instead of Burying our Head's in the Sands and hoping it all goes away....
