  • Help with powers: Reality Revision and Time Regression

    So, I'd like to have the community's help with these two powers. I'll write what the player asked and my take on the subject, leaving everything here for you guys to review and suggest changes.

    * * *

    Reality Revision
    Player's Description: "My character can bend reality to change the outcome of unfavorable recent events, bending reality to fit his needs."
    My idea:

    Reality Revision: Burst Area Luck Control 4, Selective • 20 points
    * * *

    Time Regression
    Player's Description: "My character can regress apparent time 1 round into the past. In effect, my character “replays” the previous round of activity. The power regresses time to the point along the time stream just prior to your previous turn, undoing the effects of everyone else’s actions in the meantime—at least for the character. At the same time the character ‘jumps back’ in time he's able to use knowledge of the past to position himself in a hidden spot and take the initiative through a surprise attack."
    My idea:

    Time Regression: Enhanced Advantages 5 (Evasion 2, Hide in Plain Sight, Improved Initiative 2), Enhanced Skills 4 (Stealth 8), Movement 1 (Time Travel to the previous round—six seconds in the past), Reaction, Increased Mass up to the character’s Strength rank • 10 points, plus 1 point per rank of Increased Mass
    * * *

    Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions!

    The first power seems spot-on... Although I would caution you that Luck Control is a power that I do not recommend you let completely new players use. Although the Hero Point rules aren't terribly complicated, weighing how to best use five (or more) of them each fight, over an entire area of effect, as a Reaction? Yeah, that can slow down play if you have a player who is even a little indecisive. If your prospective Scarlet Witch is a veteran of other role playing games, but new to M&M, it should run smoothly after a session or two.

    The second power is also good, but the "time travel one round in the past" is going to be an absolute chore to make work in regular play. You'll have to remember what every NPC did last round, each player will have to remember what their hero did last round, and everybody will have to repeat themselves... It's workable and its by the book legal, but it's a pain.

    I'd keep the power build as you have it, but swap out Movement for Danger Sense and/or Precognition.

    Oh, he might also want to take on Seize Initiaitve too!

      I was wondering if I missed out something in the mechanic part of the powers. Well, the players are experienced and the play style of the group make me think that these powers won't be a problem. Everyone's actually pretty excited about this (and the power will NOT be used constantly, for reasons story-related... and it will probably require a hero point to use). Oh, Seize Initiative was in the first draft of the power, I actually removed it, but I still think it's a great idea

        In that case, I suggest breaking the Movement Effect off into its own power, tagging it with the Tiring and/or Unreliable Flaw. None of the other parts of the effect are likely to cause any problems at all, but time travel is often best left as a "GM Has Veto Power" effect.

        It's not so much about the power being too potent or the players being too munchkiny, just simply how hard it can be to integrate into the needs of running a table.
