  • Dynamic Powers

    Ok so I've read the second edition rules on Dynamic Alternate powers a dozen times and I still don't quite get it. My understanding is that if a power is Dynamic you can use it at the same time as another dynamic alternate power...example having a Create Object 10 and AP Blast 10, you could use Create Object say at Rank 5 and the Blast at rank 5 as well, or even Create Object 9 and Blast 1?

    Yup. So long as you're only using dynamic powers, you can mix-and-match the points of the most expensive power in the array among them. I can't remember if it's explained in the 3E books, but in 2E, you have to use any Flat extras or Quirks, and Extras and Flaws must be applied per-rank. For "multiple powers" in a single slot, at least one rank of each of them must be on, and some GMs will enforce a proportional split.

      Thanks you for the answer! Also just wanna say, been reading Emerald City Knights and Mockingbird is definitely one of my favorites!

        I heard this before but I'm not sure if it's in the rules officially, at least I don't recall that line.

        On another note can you Link Dynamic attacks by default?

          As I said, I don't know that 3E covered this. In 2E, it was covered in the ORQ forum.

          And I would argue that you cannot link Dynamic attacks for the simple reason that Linked means they always go off together. If you can choose whether you have one or the other power going off, it's not Linked by definition.

            Yeah, I think if you were going to link powers with an Array, either they both have to be in the same slot (and the rule for applying points to both equally is in effect) or one of the powers is outside the array and only works when the particular AP/AE is active.

            I did something like this with an Ultraboy build. Bought his Life Support outside the array and linked it to the Invulnerability power.

              Hmm, well I was thinking of a character, lets call him Acid Bath, who has an affliction, a blast, a weaken toughness, and a transform effect in a dynamic array to show he can produce and mix different poisons in different concentrations.

                Hmm... interesting idea. I know a Variable would cover this; I am not sure an array with linked effects would work.
