  • Feedback questions

So, the Feedback flaw on Summon/Create/Illusion/etc. If your effect's manifestation is damaged, you have to resist the damage rank using the effect's rank as your resistance. I get that, it makes sense, but I've got two questions:

    1) If a summoned minion/created object/illusion is attacked, but successfully resists, does it trigger the Feedback? I'd assume not, but I ask to be thorough.

    2) Is it possible to increase your resistance without buying extra ranks in the effect, such as a Protection effect (Limited to Feedback)? I figure that would also be limited to PL, but that's a minor issue.

    Thanks in advance.

If you think that through, when the manifestation successfully resists, YOU (or more precisely, the source PC) resist. It's the same resistance for both because mechanically hitting it is like hitting you, and the power is the resistance rank. If the manifestation doesn't avoid the attack, the one resistance check is for both of you. At least that's my read on it. I suppose you could allow for separate resistance rolls, but then you could only use Luck or Hero Points to reroll one of them.

There's no official rule condemning or condoning this. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. Feedback is supposed to be a Flaw, which means it needs to be disadvantageous in order to be worth the point break. If you buy up Limited Protection so that the Feedback doesn't actually affect them very much or often, what's the point? You may as well make it a Complication.

Also, if you're going with the one-check-for-both interpretation that I'm suggesting, the difference in resistance can be annoying. If you really wanted to go with lesser damage than the manifestation takes, I'd recommend something that drops a degree of failure to simplify it. So if your feedback minion is Staggered (3rd degree), you are only Dazed (2nd). Bought as Limited Protection, that would cost 3p. IMO, anything more effective than that should just be a Feedback Quirk for -1p, or again, Complication.
