Re: Need help bringing character to completion

Ah. The "8" I have listed is assuming that you make your full check. Your base Toughness is 0, because you have no points in Stamina or anything else that would give you a bonus in Toughness.

Then should my sheet read: Toughness 8*/0?

That's definitely one way to notate it. Do you want me to modify the post I have with your sheet?

Re: Need help bringing character to completion

While I'm at it, the explanation for the difference in the base DC for the saves is that, in early testing of Mutants and Masterminds (back in the days of 1E), they used the same base DC, but the fights took too long, and players got frustrated when their punches either had no effect, or effectively floored the villain, so Steve Kenson suggested that making the save by less than 5 would result in a "Bruise" which would make it slightly easier to get knocked out. Players were then annoyed that they would make a save, but still get a penalty, so the rule was put in that the base DC for damage was 15, and that the first condition was that -1 penalty.

Anything else that I can clarify?

            Still keeping up?

As a side note, I am running the adventure exactly as stated, other than dropping the main anatagonist's PL a bit to match you starting at PL 8. The rest, including the ambush, is straight from the book. The scales are slightly against you, but you also have Hero Points, which help a lot.

Yeah, I meant to post last night but fell asleep. so far everything seems simple enough and the fact I can't use the dice roller at work is what's slowing me up the most here.

                No worries.

Gate will move 15 feet back and try to use Redirecting Warp on pack rats blast in order to hit one of the goons.

                  Redirecting Warp: 1D20+8 = [7]+8 = 15

Sense I rolled a 7 the book says I can use a base 10 for any roll under 10 to boost the score to 18(?). however that still falls to stop the attack so is this where I could use a hero point?
Deflect is an active power. It works like the Defend action where you take a Standard action on your turn, roll, and then apply the results against further attacks that turn.

There really isn't much you can do to not git hit by an effect post-facto, although rolling your Toughness save can be described as dodging or the attack hitting something non-vital like loose clothing, or ricocheting off of the lucky cigarette case in your pocket. Since you already rolled, that value applies for your Toughness save, which gives you a total of 15, which isn't great. You can use a Hero Point reroll on your Toughness save (using the descriptor of your power to say something like that you managed to vent the energy harmlessly through an aimed portal). On a Hero Point reroll, any roll less than 11 gets 10 added to it. Or, if you're in a position where it doesn't matter if you roll a 1 or a 20, you can use the dice roller to roll 1d10+10+your bonus and it's effectively the same thing. Since here, rolling 20 won't be any different than rolling 10, it doesn't matter.

Another option would normally be using a Hero Point for an Instant Counter, but first of all, you'd have to keep your roll for that counter, and secondly, you don't really have an opposed descriptor in this case.

So ultimately, unless you want to take the result of 15 on your Toughness save, I'd say use a Hero Point to reroll.

ok, so what your saying is that Redirecting Warp is kinda like the total defense action in DnD. It applies to things after it is put into effect but not before.

Yup. That's part of the description of it, indicating that it works the same way.

And I know you can't access the dice roller from work, but reminding you that it's still your turn. You still have a Toughness save to roll.
