  • Need help bringing character to completion

    So I'm trying to build a teleporter for a game and while I've managed to get the basics set up I'm having trouble bringing it all together. I was hoping to get the tanks help in finishing the sheet.

    What exactly are you looking for? Mechanics? Suggested Powers? Backstory?

      Mechanics.

      mostly with attack bonuses and the defenses at this point. if we go by blocks on the character sheet then its the offensive powers and the defenses section. I know there are caps to some of the stats and all, but the core books seems to have the information scattered all over the place.

      honestly I just want to complete the character sheet.

      **something I forgot to mention before is that for skills. the GM is doing 1 to 4 instead of the normal 1 to 2 that is in the book.**

        Alright. Power Level limits are the following:
        Skill Modifier: Your hero’s total modifier with any skill (ability rank + skill rank + advantage modifiers) cannot exceed the series power level +10. This includes untrained skill modifiers using only ability rank, and so sets an effective limit on all abilities associated with skills.

        Attack & Effect: The total of your hero’s attack bonus and effect rank with that attack cannot exceed twice the series power level. If an effect allows a resistance check, but does not require an attack check, its effect rank cannot exceed the series power level.

        Dodge & Toughness: The total of your hero’s Dodge and Toughness defenses cannot exceed twice the series power level.

        Parry & Toughness: The total of your hero’s Parry and Toughness defenses cannot exceed twice the series power level.

        Fortitude & Will: The total of your hero’s Fortitude and Will defenses cannot exceed twice the series power level.
        The first thing most people consider is whether your character is balanced between Defense and Toughness, or take a tradeoff to one side or another. You will face a similar question for your attack bonus and effect rank (or attack bonus and Strength for unarmed attacks). And lastly, you decide whether you want a balanced approach for Fortitude and Will or to trade off. Those are not questions I can answer for you.

            ok, need some help. From the power profiles: teleport powers I'm using "Redirecting Warp" with the following build: Redirecting Warp: Deflect, Reflect, Redirect 24 pp for rank 8. My current base dodge is 2 and my current parry is 0. I also have 2 ranks in the evasion advantage for a +5 to AOEs.

            So with all that taken into account should my active defenses look like the below?
            dodge vs non-aoe: 10 (base) + 8 (deflect) = 18 total dodge
            dodge vs aoe: 10 (base) + 8 (deflect) + 5 (evasion) = 23 total dodge

            Since the game is being played at PL 8 the max cap for both of the dodge examples would be a +16 correct?.

              Deflect actually works parallel to Parry/Dodge.

              You can actively defend for characters other than yourself, deflecting or diverting attacks against them at a distance, and may be able to more effectively defend yourself, depending on your rank. See the Defend action in Action & Adventure for details. You use your Deflect rank in place of an active defense. You still add 10 to a Deflect die roll of 10 or less, for a minimum roll of 11. Deflect modifiers are limited by power level.
              You're always looking at the bonus (+8 for rank 8 Deflect) for determining Power Level Limits. Take that, and add your Toughness. That is what needs to be at 16 or less. Keep in mind that Deflect requires a Standard action, just like use the Defend action. Invest in Parry and Dodge to improve your "passive" level, which is used for the PL calculation with Toughness, and to which you add 10 for the base DC of hitting you.

              The Evasion bonus is a "circumstance bonus" and therefore does not factor into PL.

                      Alright. First, Deflect will not change your Dodge or Parry. You need to buy those up, or get them from Agility or Fighting. Second, when calculating for PL, don't add 10. That's just for determining how hard it is to hit you (basically, the system has you "Take 10" on your defense unless you take a Defend action).

                      Evasion does not affect PL, so don't include that when calculating whether you are within PL.

                          Right now, your character is PL 11 based on the combination of Dodge and Toughness, and PL 10 based on Parry and Toughness, PL 11.5 on combined Will and Fortitude. There's also no indication of where you're getting those values. What does your Ranged Combat apply to?

                          If you'd really like, I could pull a PL 11 character and run a quick scenario with you, but if you don't understand how the values work, I'm not certain how much it will help.

                              Your listed Toughness is 10 (and where did you get it?). 10 + 12 for Toughness + Dodge is 22. Half of that is 11. Toughness + Dodge is 20. Half is 10. Will + Fortitude is 23, half of which is 11.5.
