  • Things you should do when making a character?

I'm kinda a tad lost on what I should do when making a character mechanically.

In games like dungeons and dragons, I can guess about where my abilities should be at depending on what I want to make, but in here its so varied I'm not really sure.

Like if I was making a character at PL 8 for third, what would be low defense, average defenses, and high defenses?

I'd say for a PL 8, 6-10 would be average defense (Parry/Dodge or Toughness?), while lower than 6 would be low and higher than 10 being high, but obviously with the trade-offs, you can balance that with other defenses if you wanted.

At PL 8, 8 is your standard. I only allow shifts (as recommended here often) of 50%. So a low defense would be a 4, and a high defense would be a 12. You can always have lower defenses, if your character is supposed to be weak in those areas, and remember Joe Pedestrian has a 0 in everything.

The game simply states you can't exceed twice PL in given brackets.

      Willpower vs Fortitude
      Dodge/Parry vs Toughness

      and on the other side

      To hit vs Damage (effect)
No To Hit Roll locks your max at PL.

      Hope that helps.

To add to this: note that many people seem to recommend adding Regeneration to the Dodge/Parry - Toughness axis of PL limit.
