    Goldmax,

It has been too many years since we have last spoken. Recently, I have heard through common friends that you are recruiting young people of talent for a cause. If this is true, my granddaughter may be of interest. I will warn you now that she is already Chosen and will not be yours. I will not tolerate last time again and will be keeping a wary eye upon your activities.

Ingrid has made me very proud and does honor to her family. She is a smart girl, taking her dedication to work and study very seriously. While she will train with you, I will not allow interruptions. She is too important to her family and to the kindred for more errors like you have made in the past. She is well on her way to taking up her role as gythja. It is giving hope to us elders that our future will be in good hands.

She takes too closely after her Mother in one way. Her warrior spirit is strong and needs tempering through opportunity. She does not fear it but she does not have control over it yet either. It would do her good to work with other youth and work as a team rather than only within the kindred. There are some lessons that we cannot teach her that you may be able to. Those do not include the past mistakes.

Visit us soon and meet with her. I just finished a batch of dark lager that I think that you’ll enjoy.

    Gram

Some ideas, none written in stone in order to offer more creative fuel.

    Education:
Magnate? Communal home school/ semi private?

On the other hand, it would probably be good if she went to school with the other PCs. The whole an outsider, but not too much of an outsider- thing.

Education is important- both academic and social. In any case, will probably have extra homework assigned from the family.

Maybe chronically overcommitted (debate/drama/student council/sports/etc/etc/etc), lots and lots of acquaintances but few real friends outside of the kindred.

    The ‘ranch’:
Old ranch, since the beginning of the city. Somehow is still on the outskirts of town?

Stabling, training, breeding, large animal vet services, they house the local mounted police horses and do some charity work there too.

    Family/Kindred:
5-6 families with some single people, a few from the local college

Garm (grandfather): current leader but getting very old

Rowan (Mother): deceased? Missing? She worked with Goldmax but Something horrible and foolish happened to her. Garm blamed Goldmax for it for many years but they have come to an understanding. The event happened when Ingrid was very young, only a few distant memories.

She has at least two older brothers. One is away at college.

A police officer is part of the group and is a follower of Tyr.

Another member is a networking specialist.

Is it too cliché to have a guy friend that they've know each other since diapers and things are getting awkward?

Leadership gap between Garm’s group and the youth, middle aged are busy with their lives. People are already having high expectations that Ingrid will be the leader in two generations.

Kept quiet- not really outsiders’ business. Would you allow a stranger to call your mother Mom? This can cause some misunderstandings and unpleasantness.

    Relationship with gods:
Odinism is more about forging alliances with the gods, a give and take rather than Abrahamic Lord and servant.

Gods are able to be more present with faith and fervor, a Swallowing between the two worlds. Ingrid somehow makes it even easier. The gods are more willing to help things happen when she helps people ask for them.

Gods might actually show up but it will be extremely rare and plot related.

Does the family extend into the world of gods?

Whiteprofit- I'm reposting Ingrid if you need a warm body to keep the game going. Mostly things are world building seeds. I'm happy to work with you to have things match your game.

        1. Still haven't gone through the rules. I work weekends, so first thing tomorrow I should have a chance.

        2. & 3. I think we can be more creative than this. Up to you. Off hand I immediately think if you want the butler to be responsible for her and still her main point of contact, he could enroll her in several forms of martial arts classes, (three at once technically), without having to 'conveniently be' a former special ops guy who now takes care of teenagers. And he starts helping her when he finds vast amounts of information on the people that killed Tiff's sister in her room and he decides that focusing her revenge is better than letting it run wild. This includes hiring/encouraging training with the mentor group once their public heroism at the bank hits the news.

        4. I like the personality splits. I see the dups being like the angel and devil on Tiff's shoulder sometimes. "Let's do this, it's responsible." "Let's not, because THIS is more fuuun!!!"

        5. I can say right off the bat with confidence, I don't want the mental link. I would rather that once they come back together, everything they did while they were away is 'known' to the whole group. But while split, they have different experiences. This allows you to send one off on an errand and lets me 'tell you what happened' instead of playing out three characters at all times. Plus it limits the power a bit more and I would prefer limits on this power. (Not to say you won't have control of all three most of the time, I'm just saying your main point of view will be Tiff. Tiffany and Tiffy will be like little extra characters instead of main characters. (Like O'Malley in the Family of Supers game shock is running))
All this sounds good. I'll try to get the changes made to her sheet sometime tomorrow. For #5 do you just want that built as a feature? Something like:

Feature (Shared Experience) - Whatever her duplicates have learned will be transferred to her once her duplicates have been dismissed.

          BACKGROUND
In many ways, Elliot's childhood was like any other boy's. He had a vivid imagination, older siblings who teased him, doting parents, and boundless energy. Super heroes actually existed in Freedom City, so a common (and usually heated) argument among young kids focused on what super powers you wish you could have. Some of Elliot's earliest memories included caped crusader action figures confronting the evil genius villain and their Lego robots, who never quite managed to execute their master plans of world domination. The super hero always swooped in at the last minute to save the day. Pretty routine stuff for a grade-school boy, really.

The difference was that Elliot's earliest memories also included his oldest brother accidentally ripping the passenger door off the family car, and his middle brother shooting lightning bolts at squirrels trying to climb the bird feeder.

Born to James and Rose McGuire, Elliot was an unexpected addition to a family whose parents already had their patience pushed to the limit. John, Elliot's elder brother by 10 years, developed powers of super strength, fast healing, and extraordinary leaping abilities when he was 12 years old. He is now 26, works as a manager at a fitness center, and goes by the name “Cannonball.” Tom, the middle brother and older than Elliot by 8 years, also began to develop powers at age 12; he can manipulate electricity, shoot lightning bolts, and even turn into lightning to rapidly transport himself across great distances. Tom is now 24 years old, works at an electronics store, and (never one for originality) calls himself “Lightning.”

Elliot's brothers teased, tickled, tortured, and tackled him throughout his childhood, until they grew up and moved out when Elliot was barely in middle school. Then, all of the family holidays consisted of his brothers sharing stories about their most recent escapades or accomplishments as tried-and-true super heroes in Freedom City. Elliot's parents tried their best to provide Elliot with a “normal” life and to give him all of the attention they could, but Elliot always felt to some degree that he was lost in his brothers' shadows. How could acing a difficult math test compare to smashing a rampaging robot or stopping a mall shooting? So, when Elliot turned 12, he eagerly awaited signs that his own powers were developing and kept journals about what kinds of powers he would like.

Except Elliot didn't manifest powers at 12, like his brothers had. He spent the next two years agonizing and then sulking about the boring, normal existence to which he was seemingly doomed. He tried to busy himself with extracurricular activities at school, video games with his friends, or anything else to distract him from his frustration.

Around the time Elliot turned 14, he started waking up to find his belongings rearranged in his room or scattered around the floor. He first blamed it on his brothers, thinking they had visited home just to mess around with him, but his parents denied it. Elliot then began to experience bad headaches and hearing voices, only to realize that he was hearing other people's thoughts. He was overjoyed to find out that he had developed potent telekinetic abilities, as well as some limited telepathy. And, unlike either of his brothers, Elliot could fly.

Elliot was disappointed when his family reacted to this news not with acceptance and approval, but with concern and apathy. His parents said he should be careful and that maybe he should focus on his schoolwork, as he was a very good student with a bright academic future ahead of him. His brothers just told him stories about psychics they knew and brushed off his requests to train with them. What super hero wants to monitor their baby brother instead of going on their own patrol?

Elliot spent the next two years training on his own to develop his powers, test their limits, and hone skills that he thought would make him a better super hero. His parents grudgingly agreed to enroll him in self-defense classes, and Elliot spent many nights just standing around and watching people who seemed suspicious. One night, his “patrol” efforts paid off and he saw a few armed men go into a bank. Determined to gain the respect and approval of his brothers, Elliot foolishly went in alone without calling the police. He managed to stop the robbery, but one of the robbers caught him off guard and shot him in the leg. As Elliot reeled in pain, the robbers escaped. The police were furious that the criminals had gotten away. His parents found out and flipped, and his brothers yelled at him for not being careful enough.

Elliot is still determined to become a true super hero. He recently managed to persuade his parents to let him seek out a mentor, so he could go on patrols or help the city without going alone. Elliot's brother Tom was the first to actually follow through with a referral for a mentor: a hero named Goldmax, someone who helped him out of a few binds in the past and had offered Lightning informal mentoring. Elliot is eager to develop his relationship with Goldmax and Storm Sage and start training for the “big leagues,” but time will tell if the young psychic is ready to juggle homework, patrols, and maintaining a secret identity.

          PERSONALITY
Elliot is a friendly, bright, and enthusiastic teenager. Because of his family upbringing, he is thoughtful, loyal, and playful. He has learned to connect with others by teasing them, but he also knows better than his brothers do where to draw the line. He is a pretty perceptive and insightful person, so when he realizes a friend is struggling with something or upset, he will go out of his way to make them feel better or at least smile a little.

When faced by reminders of his brothers or the fact that he is still living in their shadow, Elliot may become competitive, hyper-focused, or irritable. He currently has a hard time taking criticism, even when it's constructive, unless it is given gently. Although Elliot is generally friendly and warm, he will become angry and protective when people are being pushed around by a bully. He isn't afraid of taking a punch, and he knows that his telekinesis can dish out quite a bit of offensive power when applied well, which makes him less likely to back down from a potential threat.

          COMPLICATIONS
          • Motivation (Respect): Elliot wants to prove to his brothers, parents, and himself that he is ready for the mantle of responsibility that comes with having super powers.
          • Relationship (Cannonball, Lightning): Elliot's older brothers think he is too young to do any serious super hero work (even though they started patrols before they were his age), and they mostly think he can't handle himself. Despite all of the teasing and hassling they give Elliot, however, they care about him and are very protective of him when they think he really needs help – whether he agrees or not.
          • Reputation (The Little Brother): Elliot's parents, brothers, and anyone who knows Cannonball's and Lightning's secret identities still see Elliot as a kid who barely knows what he is capable of. Being the baby was convenient when Elliot was growing up, but annoying now that he thinks he is ready to be a super hero. His brothers were also troublemakers in school, and some of his teachers watch Elliot closely because he's a young McGuire boy.
          • Accident/Weakness: Elliot tried to play off the bank robbery fiasco as just a bump in the road, but when he is being honest with himself, he recognizes how lucky he was to escape with his life. The incident makes him question some of his own abilities, and his own confidence has suffered because of it. He may need more support or run the risk of losing his focus. In high-stress situations, especially if outnumbered or against armed enemies, he suffers the effects of being demoralized (-2 circumstance penalty on checks) until he is able to overcome his fear.
          • Identity: Elliot has adopted the superhero identity of Levitron, and he knows that it's very important to not be seen using his powers in public. He sometimes slips and lets out that Cannonball and Lightning are his brothers, to their annoyance, but he tries to not share that information with just anyone.
          • Temptation: Even though his mind reading abilities are not as strong as his telekinesis, Elliot has sometimes found himself tempted to do better on a test or assignment by reading his teacher's mind. He has to fight the urge to respect the privacy of others' thoughts, or to not send someone flying with telekinesis if they're being a dick. Sometimes Elliot struggles to resist those urges, and sometimes it puts him in uncomfortable situations.

          CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
I think Elliot's primary growth point will be navigating the mentoring relationship. Goldmax knows who Lightning and Cannonball are, and Elliot's parents would have confided in him about Elliot's fraternal relationship to them. Elliot has some big shoes to fill, and he will perceive a lot of pressure to perform above expectations on all manners of assessment from his mentor. The reality is that Elliot's powers and technique still need a lot of refinement, and he really needs to boost his confidence as a super hero, especially in situations where he feels nervous or overwhelmed.

As Elliot's skills improve and his confidence grows, his natural curiosity will get the best of him and he will want to push the boundaries of what his powers can do. Mechanically, he will work on boosting his flight speed, adding new AEs for his telekinesis array, and developing his budding telepathy abilities.

Batgirl, I'm enjoying the idea of this character. I had a friend that always wanted to play a tiger that could turn into a person. Not a sentient tiger though, a normal tiger turned into a perso ... We never managed to find a proper setting for him. Lol.

I'll have to think on alternate worlds and hidden cities.

Great, thanks for letting me know. Just as a heads up, if you don't like the Limited by Languages flaw on Mind Reading, let me know and I can tweak that power. I picked it because it's listed as a specific example under the Mind Reading entry, but I'm not sure how often that limit will actually impair the effectiveness of the ability in this setting, so it might not be a fair flaw for the discount. If you think it's not limiting enough, I will probably drop that flaw and give up the Cumulative extra for now.

Cool. Just because there's a lot of potential background there doesn't mean that it can (or should) be used.

Made the talked about changes to Tiffany. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to see for the character.

Okay, putting the sheets into Hero Lab, I realize that some of the house rules are not stated.
Characters receive a free social advantage for each rank in Presence to make up for its lack of effect compared to the other abilities. Please mark these as red in your build so I know what is paying for them.

Secondly, skills are purchased at 3 per power point, not the normal 2. So everyone has some extra points to spend there as well.

There aren't any glaring problems that I feel need to be noted on. I will say that I've gotten more submissions than I expected already, so anyone lurking in the background should speak up soon. I may close this down early to new interest. So far I've got:

evolucion - Shen Lu Mei Damage absorber
                          Weyrd - Tiffany Rhodes Multiplicity
                          kenmadragon - Nueron Telepath
Batgirl III - Girlilla Gorilla that turns into a girl
Spectrum - Ingrid Rowandottir Harness divine power and Bear Sark form
rwknoll - Elliot McGuire Telekinetic kid brother of two FC heroes
Triskavanski - Interest, no character submission

Please make any changes or updates to the linked pages to avoid confusion.

Girlilla has had her sheet updates to reflect the house rules you mentioned. No major changes, she's just a better scientist now and will have an expanded utility belt. (Oh, and she's a proper PL8 across the board too.)

I'll throw together her proper Equipment List later today.

I read Bear Sark form as Bear Shark form every time.

                                Big difference.

And I didn't know about the house rules, so I should have a bunch more Skill Points to spend... I have to wonder: Are Combat Skill costs changed as well, or kept the same?
