  • Re: New Vindicators Academy of Europe (OOC - Full)

That they don't disappear isn't a huge issue in a session, or in a combat, but I keep thinking "Why wouldn't he have a ridiculous number of swords wandering around if he can just do so?"

It's not that they don't disappear, it's that if they don't: why doesn't he have an overwhelming number of them on hand at any given time?

And I know the answer is "Because the plot demands it".

How fast do the ships go in Babylon 5? At the speed of plot.

Still I can't help but scratch my head and wonder why he doesn't use said powers to the fullest.

Will him having an indeterminate time limit on his swords make any mechanical difference in the game? Probably not, because he'll always have as many swords on hand as the plot requires. It would just explain why he doesn't plot revenge, after getting his silly hat handed to him, by going "Hey, my millions of swords, go down and destroy the school".
    ...
Though now that I think of it they do have rules for that too, don't they? Mass combat rules?

The simplest answer for this is he's aware of his own defensive limitations. It wouldn't take long for the police and military to link the guy with all the swords to a bunch of murders and take him out with a sniper shot from a couple hundred yards. Even assuming Skew is around to defend him, a shot from a .50 caliber sniper rifle could close the intervening distance and finish him off before the report of the rifle could be heard.

The simplest explanation for not travelling with a horde of swords is...it's not a really good idea.

I do want to say none of this is too big a deal to me-after all, Cleave can be bested withou too much trouble under the right circumstances (BK did beat him, and Kas and Jack made short work of his swords before they killed Gwyn-which is about right, three PL 8s best a guy two PLs above then). The fact that the same can be said of the PCs is just part of the game.

After all, mis-matches happen. I don't imagine The Blue Knight versus Ogre will take too long one way or the other, simply because this particular PL 10 is likely very vulnerable to Will effects.

          And driving with a Semi-Truck with a trailer? Or even a U-Haul?

Or, heck, just ordering them to fly straight up into the sky a few miles then south to the city and down at the location he fires a flare gun at?

Yeah, I'm aware that walking in the midst of a gigantic swarm of swords is a big ol' kick me sign, assuming anybody could get close enough to get the drop on him.

You don't have to even get within visual range of Cleave to take him out. That is to say, with a scope, you could see Cleave, but he probably couldn't see you. Like I said, a decent military sniper could kill him and he'd never see it coming. Cleave on the otherhand has to have some idea what he wants the swords to accomplish, since they have no Int. Sure he could send them in at range, but how would he know when they've done what he wants? He's got a mental link, which allows him to control them, but he doesn't perceive what they perceive (a mental link is communication, not claivoyance) and since they have no intelligence, nor any special senses, fooling them shouldn't be difficult at all. Absent any special consideration, the swords operate with the same senses people do, more or less, so stealth, concealment, visual obscure, etc. should all be valid tactical maneuvers against them. Without Cleave present to guide them they can't determine friend from foe, they can perform very simple actions they've been pre-programmed for or react to stimuli in ways Cleave has designed them to, but they are incapable of anything complex.

Read "absent ability scores", specifically in regard to mental scores in this case in the core rules. There are actually guidelines that govern what a construct or creature lacking a positive Int score can do.

I'm in agreement here. It's not that big a deal . It's just a neat exercise to think about.

Or maybe there should be a time limit to how long they stay animated. If you make the duration Independent with Total Fade and Slow Fade, you could stretch the time out to a couple of days, which again, should be plenty to support whatever the story needs.

I was going to also suggest the slow fade.

Also, All he has to to do is swing the sword through the air? Not at least hit something with it? That's not a limit that reduces the powers functionality by 50%, the GM should have never allowed that! It's a quirk at best.

Something to give Cleave a bit more oomph as a combatant personally, give his Summon swords Sacrifice. He unconsciously has them take the hit for him.

But otherwise, HH has the right of it, they automatically, unintelligently follow the last command given, they are still a big threat (especially if the last command was to attack a player), which makes Lex's strategy of keep away the best one. There should be limits on how detailed their 'programming' can be. Remember also they have 'normal' senses and low perception score, they can be fooled by stealth or illusions or even cover depending upon if they were told to go for people or just movement in a certain distance of the area they are guarding.

Doesn't Larrikin have an action before Violet goes?

Touché. Larrikin will make Violet transparent, giving her partial concealment.

I'm going for Jab's favorite cliché to explain how Lex got his ass kicked by an enemy who's about to become significantly weaker:

                      New Villain Stink.

They're unstoppable bad assess... until you've run through their repertoire a couple times, then you one shot them like Spiderman one shots Shocker ;~)

Or at least one can hope!

Given Lex's fondness for movie quotes, I was hoping his father's comment about blood loss would prompt an "I ain't got time to bleed."

I just realized that Violet and Jouzas are a great team to go against Skew. Violet is immune to Diamond Dust's Fatigue attack and while he's insubstantial, she can't hurt him either.

Yeah, that does negate a vast majority of Skew's usual tactics doesn't it.

As usual Larrikin is the weak point. Poor Aussie ;~)
