    I'm sticking with my claim.
I totally botched my fort save vs death ;~)

    Vegan Police-esque Deus Ex Machina
Thanks, now I have to add Scott Pilgrim Vs the World to my already staggeringly huge list of movies/shows I need to watch.
I completely missed that the movie star ex boyfriend character was the same guy who plays Captain America until somebody pointed it out.

I remember when I first saw the trailer for it I was-well, obsessed in a way I rarely am with any thing pop culture. I would watch the trailer like every day, and then I bought all the books, and loved them. The art style is very simplistic, but it goes with the story.

Also, Bryan Lee's next thing, a one-shot graphic novel called Seconds, is also very awesome.

And the movie is amazing. Edgar Wright was the perfect director choice. I wouldn't say either the comic book is better than the movie-the movie has to be very condensed and the comic book has a lot of little neat touches-I would rather say that both are excellent.

I have few favorites-no favorite band, or song, and my favorite TV show is literally as old as I am. But Scott Pilgrim is definitely up there.

Nah. Vlad would be totally behind an immortal Jack as opposed to an immortal Beatrice. From a pragmatic standpoint, Jack is on the frontline of any fight waaaaay more often than Bea (like always vs. never), so a Jack that doesn't have to worry about the booby trap bomb or whatever makes perfect sense, an immortal Beatrice is a waste of good immortality*. Nor would Vlad be particularly concerned over Jack's motivations. Who cares? Motivation is for method actors, it's results that count.

Kas has a much more conflicted ethical system...since he's kind of a hypocrite and all. Face it, under the right circumstances he'd do exactly what Lex did. What he's mostly pissed off about (though he'd never admit it) is that Lex did it to him.

And I'm with Eld here...Lex isn't the only one to get brutalized to near death. He is the only pc that's actually needed saving from death, but he's not the only one to play snuggies with her.

*Plus the cynic in me can't help but think Beatrice would die in limbo in about 3 adventures anyway.

His awesome regeneration pretty much guarantees he's going to get tagged more often, so he can be seen regenerating the damage.
I get the point you're making, but... there's also a huge difference between Matt and Logan's fighting styles. [pushes glasses up his nose] Daredevil is a very agile fighter, who senses when things are coming, and tends to dodge. He'd definitely have taken a tradeoff: -Toughness/+Defense. Nothing nutty, like -5/+5, but still... Wolverine, on the other hand, is a brawler. A big chunk of that probably rises from his ability to take anything and come back from it, but... he still tends not to dodge, but rush straight in, throwing punches and taking them.

Still, I remember a really old issue of Wolverine were Logan picks a fight in a bar. He lets these biker dudes beat the snot out of him before he'll throw his punch. He tells 'em things like, "Let me put my eye back into socket, and..."

Scott and Jean come in to stop him from outright killing people, and afterwards, Jean turns on the Ginger Pity, and tells him something like, "You have a healing factor, Logan--not a pain dampening factor."

Just because you can come back from anything doesn't mean that anything will be a walk in the park. Having a hand cut off, being shot repeatedly, or going through scaphism is still going to be a pretty bad time.

From my own GM standpoint, a pc who suddenly gets greedy for power and risks an npc ought to have that death and the in-game ramifications hang over their head...but that's just me.
Aye, but if I let Beatrice die, what would that say about Tallemaja's character? From the start, I knew the plan. It would have been glorious if McGuffin were still around, but the plan was always to have Beatrice be torn up by Tallemaja. As she's dying, the canister opens, the apple pops out, and the other dimension PCs have to decide what to do. Tallemaja is not sinister--she actually thinks she's the good guy--so she wouldn't out right kill Beatrice for this purpose. Given her powers, there was no reason Tallemaja couldn't heal her afterwards (and hey, she did!).

Had Jack actually fed the apple to Beatrice, Tallemaja would have railed against him that she could have healed her. Beatrice would come to view her immortality as a curse overtime. She'd get a random power out of the deal--one I could potentially further use to complicate her life. All of this really only has impact with McGuffin still in the game (what does Lex care that Beatrice is sad?), and Jack eating the apple creates complications for him as a PC instead. Number One: Otso saw Jack had the ability to save Beatrice, and took it himself; number two: a lot of people are going to see Jack in a different light; number three: Siegfried will eventually find out about Dag and Jack; number four: seriously, I can do this all day...

Seconded! SPVTW was an amazing flick. I never really read the comics, but the trailer for it wowed me. It was so different, and snazzy, and I had to see it. It's one of the few times I've gone to see a movie multiple times in theatres.

I can't really give an unbiased opinion of Scott Pilgrim, because I could watch Mary Elizabeth Winstead read a telephone directory and be enthralled.

                      Ok. No seriously.

You're talking to the guy who put his PL 11 PC against the supreme big bad in the Freedom City setting (who's something like a PL 18 or so, if I recall correctly), where he had a 50/50 chance of pulling off an attack that would set said bad guy up for a massive group attack by the rest of the PCs (along with a number of NPCs). The real kicker was that I totally could have not done it but since the idea felt like something my character would have done, even with the risk of painful death, I still did it.

Granted it paid off but still....it could have gone really bad.

                      Yeah, seconded on that one.

Mich, what in the hell do you do with your free time? Research random things and then try to figure out how to use them in your games? Wow man. Good stuff.

                        PL 19, actually.

And still, he was no match for the power of the Dragon Kick.

Actually, in both the games I've been in that the team has fought Omega, my PC has been a super martial artist.

When in doubt, use more Kung Fu.

The psychological aspect of scaphism certainly lends itself to being among the worst slow deaths, though I would argue that the catherine wheel was probably more painful physically...unless the punished was lactose intolerant.
