He looks pretty cool, but what a pain that must have been to come up with 15pp for the super-senses and immortality. The 5 for Immortality wouldn't have been tough, but the 10 to cover his Aura Reading could've been difficult.

Still, he looks pretty much like all the primary elements of "Jack" are still there, so good job.

      Thanks.

Yeah, the Immortality definitely was the easy part.

The big trim came from dropping Jack's shapeshift by a rank (that bought me back 7 pp) but since I rarely use the full point pool I thought it was a good way to go (otherwise I'd have never cleared the points really) and combined with dropping a couple attributes, skills, one feature (the Iron Stomach idea never did come into play & I figure since he's not eating garbage anymore he doesn't really need it) and that new HP earned from the other dimension adventure I managed it.

But I felt that the build still "feels" like Jack and hope I never have to do something like this again. It was hard.

You can have it. The only problem with powers like immortality is somewhere down the line, a GM is going to feel inclined to work it into a story which means the pc is going to suffer a fatal beatdown. Sure, he'll get better, but even immortal, I always feel a little bad when my character gets dirtnapped.

It's kind of like Wolverine's regeneration. You ever notice that fighting the same umpteen million ninjas, Daredevil barely gets touched, while Wolverine comes out of that fight with swords sticking out of him everywhere? His awesome regeneration pretty much guarantees he's going to get tagged more often, so he can be seen regenerating the damage.

Ergo, if you can rise from the dead, at some point you will be killed.

          No thanks.

Oddly enough, this idea really doesn't bother me.

I'm with T-man. What fun is being immortal if you don't die now and then?

I know. I built Mr. Magnificent in T-man's Force Ops game exactly for that moment, when he could rise from the dead and scoff; "Ha! I'm not as think as you dead I am!"

But Kas isn't conceived as a pithy quote guy, so it doesn't work as well.

It's why I regularly have Lex get the unholy heck kicked out of him.

No point in having regeneration if you don't get to show it off once in awhile.

I figure if it works for the MacLeod family, why not Jack? (yes I realize I'm showing my age here but that was a good TV show [up until the last couple season honestly]).

Personally, I'm just shocked that michuru let you get away with it without killing Beatrice to add some extra angst to the moment of Jack's decision.

From my own GM standpoint, a pc who suddenly gets greedy for power and risks an npc ought to have that death and the in-game ramifications hang over their head...but that's just me.

Plenty of ramifications to toss his way still. I mean, Otso saw it go down (and probably isn't impressed), and the school is small.
Plenty of chances for this story to get bandied around and blown out of proportion.

Not to mention how Beatrice might react.
Just because she didn't die doesn't mean there won't be fallout down the line.
It's entirely possible we just haven't seen any yet because we're too busy with all of the constant attacks.

Me too, I honestly was kind of expecting that to happen.

I've not said anything the last couple times you've tossed the greedy for power/power seeking line out but let me be clear on that subject - I didn't have Jack eat the apple just so I could add new powers to him. In fact I highly debated not having him eat it solely for that very reason, and talked with a couple people over doing it.

                          Jack did it because he wasn't 100% sure that eating the apple would actually have any kind of effect - Jack knows absolutely nothing about magic or magical items. He based on the information that he & Kas got from the other dimensional Bulwark when he told them how he gained his powers and Jack was trying to spare Beatrice from a couple things that might (in Jack's mind) happen;

                          1) A massive, permanent physical change that she would have to deal with.

                          2) The whole "living forever" bit. Jack saw just how miserable Bulwark was because of it and was fairly certain that Beatrice wouldn't want that kind of life. She's shown herself to be not very good at dealing with the "normal" issues the school has faced (I realize normal is a relative term but anyways....).

In Jack's mind if the apple did change his appearance hopefully it would be something he could cover up with his NS powers (since he can control what he looks like most of the time), and he's pretty much a loner at the school anyways so it's not like he's got any close ties to worry about outliving (granted I plan on changing that in the future of the game). So to Jack as long as he could get Beatrice to Dr. Tally, Martin or his little sister (her name escapes me at the moment) Beatrice should have been fine for the most part.

In the end I decided to stick to my idea of "following through on doing things as fit the character's personality & mindset" and then deal with any in-game consequences that might come from that decision being made. Otherwise I'd end up being bothered by the fact I didn't do that.

If you insist, but that ain't what it looks like.

I mean, look at it from the outside. Neither Martin nor Elle was visibly present. Nobody knew where either of them were or even if they were on school grounds. There was a possibility Tallemaja had done enough damage to make a surgical solution impossible. Plenty of trauma patients bleed out on the table after all. So, Jack had a choice of two options that could save Beatrice for sure. First, feed her the apple. Second, hand over the apple and let Tallemaja heal her. Instead, he gambled that one of several uncertain options would pan out and in the process, he made himself immortal.

From an outsiders point of view, it appears as if Jack chose his own benefit over Beatrice. After all, how could he know Beatrice would change like Bulwark? Newton is immortal and for all Jack knows that immortality came from eating a Golden Apple and he isn't physically altered...nor is he particularly miserable (at least not beyond the normal Oubliette level of misery).

As a player I'm not against having a character make a selfish decision...it happens all the time. Heck, I've played characters that would have done exactly what Jack did without hesitation. I just don't buy into trying to pass it off as an altruistic decision.

It's not like it would have been hard to work Jack's existing powers into a form of immortality. The guy is a shapeshifter, it makes sense for him to be able to rewrite his own body to a constantly young state.

Besides, I'm the only player who's come close to death yet (soon to be close yet again), it's not like being immortal is a giant game changer at this point.

And it's not like he got it for free, all the powers came from his existing PP pool.

At very worst all he got was a concept shift, he didn't get a power boost, or free abilities.

Maybe not to you. I never saw Jack's actions as greedy. Surprising yes, power hungry no.

But what with Kas being 'disgusted' with all his fellow students, I gotta wonder if that's a PC thing, or a player thing.

Gwyn has been nearly killed twice now. First against Ulrich (because really Continuous Summoning PL 10s against a single PL 8?), and then against Dante because, again, mismatch.

Which I don't mind so much, it just looks bad from a story-telling standpoint because of all the lethal damage in the game. If the heroes lose and get knocked out and the villains run off to do their more important plans, fine. But if the villains are supposed to be cold-blooded killers and they when through the dice being in their favor, well then you have to come up with Vegan Police-esque Deus Ex Machina to save them after a while.
