Colonel Costa is not easy to find, which might be odd in a warehouse with an open floor plan and a lot of empty space. After Dr. Kripke's earlier encounter with her she seemed to disappear. After awhile he has to buckle down and ask one of the glaring soldiers as to her whereabouts. There is a long, uncomfortable silence during which Levi isn't certain whether he will get an answer or a punch in the nose. It ends though, with the man escorting Levi to a section of the warehouse where some crates are piled up. There he moves a board aside revealing a improvised room where the Colonel is packing some gear into a backpack. Dr. Kripke starts to talk about meeting him at the med-bay but Silvia interrupts.

"We may talk now. It will have to be brief."

She offers a nod to the man who brought Dr. Kripke to her, and the board is slid back into place as he leaves the two of you alone in the room with crates for walls. When he mentions his ideas about traitors, capture, and assassination, she raises an eyebrow, giving him the impression that Levi was missing something with his logic. The Colonel did not comment though. She listens to Levi speak, but continues to pack items into the backpack until it is full and zipped up. About the time Levi finishes talking. At that point she rests her emerald eye on the older man and takes a moment to think before she starts speaking.

"No one really knows the Praetors … even a former Praetor. Praetor Null is distant and aloof. Dr. Sokolov wears masks. Around Imperator he was the loyal aid and advisor. With Praetor Null he is the rival. With the public he was sciences' benevolent champion. At work with other scientists and engineers he was an elitist aristocrat. To those who entered his service he was a doting patron. My impression? He came off as lacking emotion and empathy, but was very good at faking it. The way Praetor Null talks about him … there was a lot I did not see, and do not want to know about."

Re: In the Shadow of Imperator: Extended Interludes

Sunday 27th, January 2019 - "A Conversation about the Good Doctor"

      Dr. Levi Kripke
      HP: 1
      Cnd: Normal
      PP: 1

Levi listens attentively to the Colonel. After Costa finishes, there is a noticeable pause as Levi stands silently considering her words.

"Thank you for the information, Colonel. I realize that you are busy, but I would like your opinion on one last concern before I leave. Sokolov has been called a "traitor" by no less than Praetor Null. Now, the Praetor may have exaggerated, perhaps letting his...or her...emotions get the best of them. But if this is the case, then it seems that Dr. Sokolov would either resist a potential rescue attempt or -under the event that he was rescued - do everything in his power to avoid cooperation with us. Now, if Praetor Null has decided to use Dr. Sokolov in some manner that does not require the doctor's cooperation...well then...I suppose capturing him is still a reasonable strategy."

Levi then shakes his head as if perplexed. "But if he really is irredeemable then...well...that is why I thought his execution was superior to leaving him in the hands of the enemy. I realize you may not feel confident enough to make a definitive statement as to the doctor's character, but it really is the ultimate question. We are taking a considerable risk in trying to retrieve him. In your honest opinion, is his heart still devoted to our cause?"

After this last question, Levi bids the Colonel "good luck" and returns to the med-bay.

        "Their."

Colonel Costa interjects when Dr. Kripke is waffling between masculine and feminine pronouns for Null.

"The Praetor's preferred pronouns are gender neutral: they, them, their."

With that insight delivered Costa listened, a little impatiently, as Levi talked his thought process through with her. Explaining, perhaps a bit too much, for the concise military woman who needed to be on her way. Though she did not actively rush the doctor, he could get the impression from her body language and expression well enough.

"My opinion on Dr. Sokolov is that if he was ever committed to the cause he stopped being so long before coming to Hadron City. That said, if Praetor Null wants Dr. Sokolov alive, you bring him in alive. No debate. Find a way to make it happen."

With Colonel Costa's answer to Levi's final query answered the two of you part ways. Leaving the hidden compartment constructed from crates behind. Levi to his improvised med-bay and Silvia departing from the warehouse.

Null has made it clear that Sokolov is the only person alive with the intellectual capacity and knowledge to make it happen. The potential for further super science in the setting would, literally, die with him. Only the relics of what is already created, and not destroyed, would be left.

Re: In the Shadow of Imperator: Extended Interludes

          Sunday 27th, January 2019

Now that Diego had a little down time, he spent a few minutes fully digesting the situation without trying to plan or scheme. Exposed as they were, he could breathe. The odds were against them and while he had learned some about the city and what was going on outside of his mission, more knowledge would certainly be helpful. It was almost as if he had jumped into a war zone like the paratrooper stories the units he used to be attached swapped. This was different in one important way. They had the support of the American military and enough smart equipment to properly figure out all the information they needed. Diego was flying nearly blind by his standards. Any bridges back had been burned in the escape though, so it wasn't like he had anywhere to go back. It was all about pushing forward. Of course, pushing forward at a waypoint was tougher than pushing forward in an underground base with supplies.

Levi and Hitori had made the team even more outsiders than before, which only added to the difficulties. Regardless, he was a seasoned operative. If he could make friends with ex KGB agents and turn loyal jihadists to Americas cause, he could at least get some of the soldiers grabbing some provisions to talk about whats going. In addition, they might let slip any ill intent to the tam aside from likely friendly fire. However it worked out, hopefully he could find if there is any food around even MRE's.

Going up to a soldier or two who looks like they aren't too occupied or taking a brief rest, Diego goes with his normal opening of flattery. With the smelly clothes safely tucked away somewhere else he didn't smell that bad. Just the normal barely escaped from Stronghold forces type smell. "Sorry about my teammates. They like to make speeches when its obvious you guys don't need them. Hows it going out there? I was serving the cause on the outside before. Got into the city not took long ago.", says Diego in his most casual tone possible when making introductions and staring to probe those he speaks. Depending on the reception, he respects the bugger off look or expression moving on as possible. Those who do talk a little, he subtlety digs revealing on the most superficial details keeping the mission details close to the vest.

Re: In the Shadow of Imperator: Extended Interludes

            Sunday 27th, January 2019 - A Spy in a Warehouse

For the most part, people don't even want to talk to Diego. They aren't hostile, but they aren't friendly with him either. Everyone has an apple or two now though, and a quick inquiry into the matter reveals that Sander has done some work to smooth things over with fresh produce. Sander herself is still upset and when not around people outside the team, she stops hiding it. For now she is keeping her distance from Hitori and Dr. Kripke until she has time to cool off. In all, outside of the Corporal, there are only two people who are willing to have a conversation with Diego, a young medic by the name of Vincent, and one Captain Redington, who is just passing through.

Vincent it turns out is a civilian and joined up with Costa's people after the war had ended. He is less inclined to talk about the war effort, and more inclined to talk about family. Namely his missing sister Justine, one of Master Zanzo's more accomplished pupils whom people called Valkyrie. Diego is able to learn that a lot of Imperator's forces went missing, mysteriously so, after the war. Along with their advanced engines of war. Including Imperator's head quarters, the Sky Fortress that he initially invaded Hadron City with. From Vincent's perspective things had been quiet, actions taken with precision, and everything was as smooth as butter until your team was put together and started making big and loud moves or mistakes.

Captain Redington is an older, salt and pepper haired man who doesn't try to hide his age. He's still fit and capable yet you can see the years on his face. He is one of the old guard, people who came with Imperator to Hadron City, and Diego gets the idea he served Imperator for some time prior. He's that veteran that other veterans tend to look up to. Redington plainly states that Hitori is an idiot for threatening Colonel Costa, which compounded the issue of dropping a gun on her head. 'Lady Odin probably would have let the Samurai keep his damn swords if he didn't act like a dog and raise his hackles'., the Captain remarks with mild amusement. He also says that Levi had better gotten enough reality to get his thinking straight. But he doesn't seem outright mad.

The Captain doesn't give a lot of details, but Diego gets the impression that Null is keeping the resistance well supplied. People, or the lack there of, is the issue. Stronghold has over three hundred thousand troops occupying the city, not counting the combat drones they have usurped. Colonel Costa's force, while disciplined, skilled, and almost fanatically loyal, is in the neighborhood of a thousand combatants. Right now, there is no open fighting. Just small teams being used strategically to set up for something long term. Captain Redington isn't around for long before leaving the waystation, heading off on his own business. He does make sure to grab one of Sander's apples before going though. The apples seem to be an inside thing with Costa's people. The meaning behind them evades Diego however.

              Alexandria Thomspon
              HP: 2

When there is a convenient time, Alex made it well known to the team she wants a meeting. This, she also made clear, was not an optional meeting for those who wanted to go into the field with her or Sanders. She knew that civilians were present among the team and as someone tasked with keeping mission critical non combatants alive in hostile situations, she wanted to make damn sure they could communicate on the battlefield in ways that don't potentially get them ID'd and killed. It would be a stain on her reputation as a soldier if her objectives died after all.

When people gathered, she stood at ease, hands grasping each other loosly behind her back, giving everyone a brief appraisal.
"Thank you all for coming. Listen up, we have an important day ahead of us and as a security operative, it's my job to make sure everybody is doing their part to help keep the team functioning. We have been out in the field, and will go out again. Now, radios break, equipment can malfunction, or maybe we are about to ambush a patrol and talking to each other is a bad idea. So, I'm going to show you the basics of non verbal communication in the field. Pay attention, if we are in a firefight, this could easily save your life!"

After his meeting with Colonel Costa, but before his mission preparations begin, Levi attends Alexandria's training session on non-verbal communication. He has a small notebook and pen ready to record information. He also makes sure to listen attentively, because he's already been the source of some major mistakes and he doesn't wish to compound that any further.

I wonder: what signal I can give to get some Sumatra-blend coffee and a cinnamon-raisin bagel? I'd better not ask as the response-signal is probably the middle-finger.

Diego spied Alex making motions to the others out of the corner of his eye, but he was to busy being told to sod off in many creative ways. Hopefully Alex could teach them some tactics or ways to not be to blatant.

Alexandria nods to Sanders in a thank you manner. She really appreciated the sergeants support, and felt a little more optimistic about whatever this Marco's job was about. With that taken care of, she side steps the sergeant and slides next to Marco. She shoots him a sidelong glance.
"That man bothering you?" she asks Marco, nodding to Diego. The vestiges of her humanity that remained after the war did find amusement that the stereotypical roles were reversed in this situation, even if she would probably appear more like a male. She considered just flat out asking him, but that would probably arise some suspicion and could jeopardise the job even before it started.

Rank confusion! Alex is the Sergeant. Sander is a Corporal.

There is a bemused look on the dark haired man's face when Alexandria slides up next to him and asks if Diego was bothering him. Not too long ago Diego had been suggesting that he might take Alex and Sander to bed. The bemused look fade into amusement a few seconds later. A smile curved at his lips. The situation seemed to amuse him enough to play along and see where the muscle bound woman went with this.

"What would you do if I said that he was?"

While Alex engages with the sketchy Marco, Sander lingers nearby. Having followed Alex she stay close enough to observe and interject if signaled, but stays out of the way and allows Diego and Alexandria to handle the social interaction. She blends in well, sipping at a drink that she had just ordered from the bar and moving to the beat of the music in small shifts of her body as though primed from dancing earlier.

Thursdays 31, January 2019; 1200 hours - Discourse between the doctors

It has been days since Dr. Sokolov disappeared into the elevator. Three days in fact. None of you have seen or heard from him during that time. Finally, at midday on the thirty-first he exits the same elevator. No longer is he wearing his armor. Instead he is back to gray slacks, a blue button down shirt, and a white lab coat. Rather than seek any of you out he walks to the to the double doors at the front of the hospital. There he meets with Ren and a group of disheveled people that look both malnourished and battered. Sokolov callously ignores the injured individuals and engages solely with the Asian teenager girl. An a small case passes from then to the doctor, there is a little more talking, and then Dr. Sokolov walks away... heading back to the elevator while Ren brings the people into a waiting room at the front of the hospital. This is how Dr. Kripke finds Sokolov. Catching sight of Levi, Zory addresses him as he moves to make his exit from the scene.

"Ren brought some people that require medical attention. Would you mind seeing to them? The girl said something about blackberry cobbler."

The day that Peter checks the digital dead drop he finds a response from Priam. It is just as short as the one Peter had gave, having only a date, time, and address listed. The location isn't one that immediately comes to mind. Which means it likely is not connected to his past or the work he performed for Imperator.

When Levi approaches Dr. Sokolov slips the item Ren had given him into one of his coat's pockets. Dr. Kripke's timely interjection allows him to catch Zory a few seconds before the doors open. The mad scientist turns his head, the mirror lenses of his horn rimmed glasses move to the aging Jewish doctor, then Ren and the injured seeking aid. Levi had noticed that one of them was bleeding from a wound in his chest, which was being staved off with dirty cloth and pressure to the wound. There was a certain distance to the way Dr. Sokolov looked at these people. A lack of empathy that was easily apparent. Levi gets the feeling that if it weren't for Ren and Levi's interest in these people Zory would not have given them a fraction of his thought.

"Join me. We can talk on the ride down. I'm sure your patients will survive that long."

At this he steps into the elevator a couple paces and turns to face the door.

"Mind if I borrow your friend for a second?" she asked, in the tone of someone who wasnt asking at all, with an undercurrent of warning. She'd done questionable things, including intimidating and shaking down people. She did hope Diego would play along, as she wanted this intel badly and would be incredibly unhappy with the spy if he botched this.

Assuming Diego goes away from the subtle prompt, Alex turns her attention back to Marco.
"He's gone now, good, thought he would never shut up. Now, lets talk. I've heard that you are looking for people for a job. You need some muscle, I'm your girl, no doubt. Lifting, carrying, I can do it all, no questions asked."
