    CAFE LANDTMANN (Violet; NPCs: Jakob)
When she had finished, Jakob leaned forward and dropped his voice low. "I'm sorry I didn't... After what happened? The attacks? I wanted to call you--make sure you were all right. After what happened with Wolf, I didn't think you'd want to hear from me. I kept my distance... I was so happy when I saw your message today. I missed being with you, Violet."

Violet's eyes widened and she leaned forward as well. "I was waiting to hear from you. After the fight you were so angry. And things were awkward because of Eve. I didn't want to hurt her." She exhaled slowly. "And... after your last message, I thought you hated me."
    • r u ok? plz dont hate me

It was almost an hour before Jakob texted her back. y wajudo

An hour was an interminable wait. Twice, Violet had to keep herself from sending additional messages and she was close to dozing off when her phone finally beeped. She jerked straight up in her bed, read the message and replied. u were so mad at the club. i was scared u wuldnt tlk to me again

y wood i b mad? its not like ur bf hit me n u checked 2 c if he was ok

A beat after she read the message, another chased it: o wait thats exactly what u did nvm

it wuznt like that! he's not my bf!

      w/e

      I'm sorry. : (

Violet didn't know what else to say. Jakob was determined to be mad and she felt like it was going to be the end of their friendship. After sending the message, she turned off her phone. She couldn't take any more tonight.

"I vas... upset, ja, but... I could never hate you, Violet." He reached across the table--for her hand. "Actually, I... I think I maybe kind of sort of... love you. Maybe without Wolf or Eve around, we could...?"

"Love?" Violet didn't pull her hand away. Her heart raced. She wanted to tell him 'No'. Thoughts of Eve flashed through her head. And Mike. But did that really matter? Mike had made his choice. And Jakob had been pretty clear about Eve. Violet wasn't going to change his mind. And why should she? In the months she'd been at the Vindicators Academy, she hadn't had so much as a date, much less a boyfriend. And now here was a boy who was actually interested; a nice boy at that! And she was going to tell him 'No'?

Violet smiled and looked into Jakob's eyes. "I think I'd like that."

        The Blue Knight

Gwyn worked something around in his mouth for a moment, before quirking his lips to the side and spitting on the ground. Child soldiers-was there anything more disgusting?

Some would say you are a child soldier, momma's boy.

Gwyn closed his eyes, breathing deep for a moment. "Well, Military Hospital or no, we know its not the regular Ugandan Army. The UUB uses child soldiers. Mind out, some of em are probably not even twelve."

Yet they might have already killed people.

"Do we think Bacon's in the Hospital, then? If so, we should try to approach from the sky. Land on the roof, cut a way in. Otherwise we'd have to fight our way in, and that...might be bad, ya?"

        Well, there was an understatement.

Once he joins with Jack and Otso, Kas frowns. "I'm not so sure we should discount the child soldiers as a danger. Many, if not most, of them will have been forced to maim or kill their parents and perhaps assist in the murder and rape of their own siblings in order to prove their loyalty. They are emotionally damaged and potentially conditioned to committing the basest acts of violence and cruelty in order to gain the...affection and approval of their leaders."

Kas felt grim and depressed. Here were children...his age and younger, desperately in need of saving, but who might be beyond redemption. How could he know which ones could be saved? He had no way of determining whether they'd come to love the atrocities they committed or whether they were desperately hoping for a way out of this nightmare.

Basenji's neo-sapien commanders were an easier quantity to weigh. They could do something, but opt to support a dictator. Every one of them he would gladly drag before the world court in chains. If they resisted? Kas regretted every death he'd ever had a part in...but he'd not regret it if any of these swine forced him to kill. They were the dictionary definition of evil.

"To be honest Jack, I would love for Basenji's pet monsters to show up. Right now I'd love to hurt someone I didn't have to feel guilty about hurting."

Lex waits for a few seconds to hear if Martin has any other questions or clarifications to ask. After a few seconds of awkward silence he shrugs.

"Okay, well, if we hit London I'll need you to point me in the right direction. I've got no idea where she's headed," Lex notes, then sighs, "Okay, lets do this thing."

He started running slow at first, building up speed until he was moving at full speed. Then it was time for the moment of truth. It was time to run on water. Or crash into concrete like water, blow out his powers in an incredible burst of energy and possibly drown. But, hey, who wanted to live forever, right?

He gritted his teeth and slammed his foot down as hard as he could. And to his surprise he didn't die, explode, or anything else overly dramatic. At worst he tripped a little while he tried to get a feel for how to run on a real world ocean.

One problem down. The next was that he had to literally run around ten thousand miles across an entire continent for the first time to find a hidden prison and stop a brainwashed friend from ruining their own life. Again.

"My life is so $#*@ed up," He muttered to himself.

He wondered what the trail behind him looked like as he ran. Tiny splashes where his feet hit down or a giant rooster tail of water? He didn't dare look back.
Maybe Martin could tell him. If he could see anything beyond an incomprehensible blur.

Not even Viktor could have held back the grin that spread on the Austrian boy's face.

Like that, their first date started. There was no Eve to consider; there was no Mat to watch over; there was no Wolf to dread. The two sat and drank. They talked about their classes. They talked about their homes.

"I have four older sisters," Jakob said, "and all of them hate me." He flashed Violet a grin to show her he was kidding. "They had to put up with each other's hand-me downs, but as the lone boy? I always got new clothes. I got my own room. It's not so bad since Sarah and Marie left home, but Hannah and Marlene are still there."

As Violet told Jakob about her family, she realized he was looking past her, at something else. "Okay, don't look," he said, "but Mike and Rose just walked in..."

Mira had a head start, but Lex ran faster. Lex ran faster, but Mira could fly, letting her avoid pesky things like cities and mountains. As the two boys neared the point where China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia came together, the Atlay Mountains hindered them only slightly. Once cleared, Lex sprinted across Kazakhstan. A few moments later, and they were in Russia until shattering across the border with Ukraine.

Until now, Lex had simply been racing towards the sun. With it now behind them, he needed to coordinate every so often with Martin. Lex was able to process each and every turn, but everything went by like a blur for Martin. Once Martin had his bearings, he was able to direct Lex every step of the way. It may have cost them a second or two, but Mira was likely having to pause every so often to re-calibrate her path as well, given her lack of a GPS device.

Given the success Lex had had in crossing the Sea of Japan to mainland Asia, Martin figured the North Sea wouldn't give the duo too much trouble and directed Lex to dash across Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands. The American's feet hit the water again. For the first few steps, he could feel himself start to sink, only to just keep moving and let his momentum keep him above the surface.

With London coming up quick, Lex started to slow down for directions, only for Mira to blaze across the sky above them. It seemed simple now: follow Mira.

Violet legitimately enjoyed hearing about Jakob's family. And she told him about all the burdens that came with being Jessica's younger sister. It was nice to just talk between the two of them without someone else butting in.

When Jakob saw Mike and Rose, she had to fight from grinding her teeth. Violet reached across the table and took his hand. "I don't care. We're having a good time and nobody else matters right now." She made a point to not even turn her head.

Kas was fine with speaking to Bacon, but the rest of this was a situation he was ill-equipped to deal with by training and inclination. While he was a talented speaker and could spin a tall tale with the best of them, his personality wasn't suited for subterfuge. Beyond that, his physical disability made so many aspects of the spy trade beyond his capabilities. It was funny how activities relied heavily on sight.

Inwardly, he shrugged, trying to be philosphical about it. His limitations forced him to be creative and kept him humble.

"So...do we walk in, bold as brass or are we going for something more stealthy?"

Lex was happy to see London in sight. It meant he'd get to stop for more than a few moments at a time, and superpowers or not he'd just run across half the frigging planet. All the muscles in his legs screamed, his ankles, knees and hips were pure agony with every movement, and it felt like he'd lit his lungs on fire.

He just wanted a few minutes to not move, and maybe plug into a wall socket.

Which is why he swore loudly when he saw Mira go by.

"#$*& my life!" He snarled then yelled, "She's here!" for Martin's benifit as he chased after her as best he could. It wasn't easy, he was stuck on the ground, blocked by buildings, fences and all manner of obstructions while she could just fly over all of it.

Still she wasn't anywhere near as fast as he was, which meant that all the back tracking hadn't allowed her to escape.
