For a moment Kas was confused how Martin could know that Otso and his father were stuck at the airport, then he remembered...text messaging. Being blind, Kas didn't really think about texting.

Nodding in response he quickly sketched out; Tell them to meet me on the flight line and at least one of them needs to transform to make it easier to spot them.

Kas had to wonder whether the incessant noise would fade. If it did not, they had to lay their hands on whatever allowed the invaders to communicate under these conditions. While Dennis' telepathy was certainly a way to bypass the deafening droning, he wasn't sure how many lines of communication the Esper could process.

It was something they'd have to address when he returned. Pulling his helmet on, he launched into the sky toward the airport.

      Take this. Same communication.

Fluxx reached out and grasped Kas by the lower left arm. Fluxx's stump of an arm came away leaving the hand to encircle Kas's forearm as a band.

Fluxx used his remaining hand and texted the requested information to Otso.

The whiteboard turned to face Dennis.

Imago. Giant Vindicator uniform or something in the sky pointing down to here. Let's rally troops. If we draw the enemy, that works too.

Given that the Volunteers had people out scouting they needed some way to get people together.

In moments there was a giant Vindicator uniform ahead, high enough and big enough to serve as a marker with the arrow pointing downwards for the edification of friend or foe.

          Greystone:
          [Jack Rexroth]
          HP: 1

Jack's return to life wasn't exactly what he had expected; he simply woke up.

Well more like he felt like he woke up after being sick for a week and stuck in bed the whole time; his joints were stiff, his brain felt like he was trying to push his thoughts through several feet of cotton, and his back ached. The days that followed were difficult as his brain tried to sort through the sudden gaining of over a years worth of memories, it left Jack almost feeling like he was crazy as almost anything triggered a strange cascading of memories that left him struggling to sort it all out.

As the days passed Jack had several meetings with Dr. Yavorshak where she was able to help him come up with a way to cope with his problem, but she also recommended that Jack keep to himself as much as he could for time being until he had a better handle on his problem (which wasn't really a problem since school was basically done for the year and only a handful of students were staying over summer). While Jack understood his self imposed isolation was probably for the best of the other remaining students, the American found that being by himself didn't help him as he needed something to focus on to keep the memories under control. Not surprising was that Ellen had been more than willing to be on hand anytime Jack needed her, though he tried to downplay how hard of a time he was having as he didn't want to worry her anymore than she already was.

The sudden appearance of the odd little guy didn't bother Jack all that much strangely enough, instead he found himself suddenly clear minded for the first time since his first resurrection he rose from his bed and put on his school uniform. He had no doubt that Kas would be rallying who was left of the combat able students present, Jack just needed to find where they were gathered.

Something that didn't take very long given the fact Jack could alter his senses to track anyone, in this case Kas, and within minutes he was joining the rest of the remaining student body. He smirked upon seeing Martin's means of countering the Armada's white noise and quickly read over the information listed so far, then added the members of the mining crew and how they were paired.

They send out two man teams to harvest energy necessary to fuel the Armada's main ship, the Elpis, and are backed up by the Grey Men (they look like "Martians", with big black eyes, little bodies and grey skin) in flying saucers.

The Elpis can emit a sound that reduces all other sounds within several miles of its location. That's the hum we're all hearing now. The members of the Armada have developed a set of hand signs to "talk" to one another to counter it. Plus the Elpis has weapons to defend itself from attacks, but it drains their energy supplies so they tend to not use them unless they have to and only used them in the past to create situations that would cause major distractions to anyone trying to stop them.

Martin was entirely too happy to see Jack. It took him a moment to sort out that the emotional response was remembered rather than inherent. Spend most of a year with only ONE person to talk with and see if you don't develop a conditioned response. His thoughts would be plain to read if his face was not elongated and flattened and uniform in color.

            But luckily it was.

He faces Greystone, though all could still see the writing.

Magnitude retrieving Ursa and Kodiak. It took Martin a moment to recall Otso's father's code name.

He suggests assault on Elpis intent on destruction of engine(s).

I would suggest mining ships but we don't know enough of their operation.

Trying to recall if mining ships collect and store stoicheion locally then transfer to main ship. Except I don't think a planet is destroyed until the Elpis shifts, so that indicates the mining ships set up a beacon or connection to the world somehow. We don't know how many 'connections' needed to drain enough life force for shift.

I don't know much about the workings of the Elpis, but I do know that the mining ships store the energy then transfer it to the Elpis.

I'd recommend targeting the mining ships. The Elpis can't make another jump until it has refueled.

                HP: 1 CND: Normal

Lex rolled his eyes while he was hugging his Dad.

                The speech.

                Again.

And if he could just talk to his Dad about it like a reasonable person without betraying Kirstie's trust... He sighed. Nothing his Dad could say would be a more convincing method of abstinence than the worry that the slightest concern from Kirstie could result in a part of his anatomy being forcibly inserted back into his own torso. After he'd had that thought he'd had a hard time looking at pancakes without wincing. Plus he was having a hard time taking his Dad seriously about the talk when he was taking Carla off for a booty call every other day.

He focused on the bright side of it. His Dad was running more than he had in years, and the powers only really offered speed, not the constitution. Another few weeks of this and his Dad was going to be in better shape than he'd been in years.

"You really know how to sweet talk a guy, ya know?" Lex smirks and slaps his Dad on the back.

He made a note to try to come back looking like hell and try to beg off out of the talk by way of a hot shower and day or two of sleep. He glanced at the TV again with a feeling of dread. What was it with Vienna and giant flying menaces?

He turned and ran, at normal speeds, upstairs to grab his jacket and slide it into place. He smiled as he tugged it back into place. It had actually been a long time since he'd worn it. He'd given it to Kirstie shortly after he Dad had been arrested. Something of his to hold onto when he couldn't be around. When he'd busted William out, he'd assumed he'd get his jacket back, but it just hadn't come up.

He let out a contented sigh. That felt so much better.

Now for the hard part. Convincing himself to leave. He didn't really want to go. He was tired of being shot at, he was tired of running across the world, the exhaustion, the nerves, the constant feeling of dread. The wondering if this was the last time he'd leave. His Dad was keeping up a strong front, but they both worried about it. Lex remembered the stories about his Grandfather.

One day his Grandfather bit off more than he could chew and just never came home.

And it wasn't like he didn't have duties here. He still had no idea if Steven was the black box spy, and he was pretty sure that his younger brother had been replaced with an alien spy. Except that spies normally hung around instead of constantly running off.

He'd been mad at Martin about the paranoia crack, but now he was starting to get paranoid. What if Elisa was one of the Avalon girls? Hey, mind control would explain why Steven could pass for a human being for once. Or did Applebottom co-opt him? If they both were working with Black box...

He sighed. It was a bad sign when believing that Steven had honestly found something good in the world and that it was making him a better person was harder swallow than him being an evil spy. Martin had been wrong before, but now he'd be dead on. Lex was Paranoid.

In the end it didn't matter. Nobody here really needed him. Not right now. People in Vienna could be in serious danger, including his friends.

He took a deep breath, tugged his jacket again, setting his jaw and making his way back downstairs,
"I'll call if I'm planning on staying late."

Merle had snagged a pair of binoculars from the school on his way out, and was using them to get a better look at the ship and the city in the sky.

Both were within range of his abilities, but he had no interest in going to either at the moment. Charging headlong into a situation they knew nothing about just seemed like a poor idea. Also the Vindicators should probably make the first attempt at contact with... what ever that was.

He wasn't looking forward to explaining to the others that he didn't want to take them straight into danger when he was given an easy out. The smaller ships started leaving the man one.

He opened a portal to his room, grabbed a pen and paper, then scribbled two things down on a page.

We should follow one of the shuttles to find out who's inside and what they're doing.
The other thing he wrote was:

Write down your cell number so we can text each other if we need to. Might want to turn on vibrate mode.

He scribbled down his own cell number for everybody to see and held the book out.

FLIGHT 5429 (Violet; NPCs: Augustus, Eve, ect.)
Thankfully, the pilots of the saucers were deft enough to dodge the plane Violet found herself aboard: flying through the storm of ships, they weren't colliding with anything. Soon, Violet couldn't see any saucers--or the mothership--out the window. The plane was descending--going in for an emergency landing...

OUBLIETTE-137, VIENNA, AIRPORT (Fluxx, Greystone, Imago, Magnitude, Ursa; NPCs: Kodiak, Larrikin, Manticore, Rheid)
Descending over the airport, Magnitude sensed the two men in their animal forms. He barely stopped--scooping them up with his power and towing them along with him as he returned to where he'd left Martin and the others.

As he made his way up along the Danube, he sensed a pair of the saucers fall in behind him. He pivoted quickly, letting the energy blasts they fired shoot past him. One faded over the water but another stray blast hit a building at Dampfkraftwerk Donaustadt--the supplier for most of the city's power.

Something was wrong, both Jack and Martin realized: the saucers were only deployed as scouts. They didn't have weapons... did they?

                      OUBLIETTE-137, DANUBE, VIENNA (Current)
As Current neared the city, a hum filled the air, swallowing all over sound. Pushing on, he began to see flying saucers swarming around the sky. He followed the Danube to the school--anyone who knew anything would be there--only to watch as a blast energy struck Millennium Tower, a fifty story skyscraper about a mile from the academy.

OUBLIETTE-720, NVSA (David, Francis, Merle, Tamati; NPCs: Jason, Kitrina, Miguel, Wally, ect.)
Clad in their uniforms, the New Vindicators made their way outside, only to see a plane landing not far off. It was missing a wing: it's place was a crude wing-shaped block of ice.

Kas swept low as the ships let fly with some sort of energy weapons. The blasts missed Him, Ursa and Kodiak, but the surrounding buildings weren't so lucky. Once again the people of Vienna were suffering because he wasn't powerful enough.

"Verdammt auslander swine." he growled to himself.

He was going to have to get Otso and his father on the ground quickly. Very few of the assembled heroes could fly naturally, which meant he was desperately needed air power in this fight.

Ganze: Mind melded and learned they were created by Argus.

Locus/Anansi saw where they were birthed but didn't know that Argus created them.

Jack saw their 'assembled' symbol with Aesirvision, confirmed it with Mart (as he had the same), then they pieced it together that it must have been Argus.
Fluxx took stock of this new development. His surface shimmered forming new words at once.

No telling how long it's been since Greystone and My's information and the Elpis arriving here. It could be decades for them, including personnel and technology changes. We weren't instructed on weapon capabilities before. Imago, the Armada pilots still need to see their instruments, can you fill the cockpits with illusory fog if I highlight their location to you?

Then just as easy as saying it, a cross-section of the saucer ship was engraved on Fluxx's surface. The small cockpit was colored red.

The Fluxx bracer on Magnitude formed raised words. We're under fire from the saucers. Going to attempt to engage.

Lex slows down at the sight of the Millennium Tower getting attacked. With the sound blasting as it was he couldn't hear anything.

He was tempted to blast the flying saucer, but shooting down a flying object in the middle of the city seemed like a last resort kind of a thing unless Magnitude was around. Which he wasn't.

Instead he turned his attention to the Millennium Tower and made his way up the building to check the damage. If it was on fire somebody was going to have do something in a hurry because nobody would ever hear the fire alarm to evacuate.
