    HP: 2 CND: Normal

"Not interested in the school," Lex said rubbing sleep out his eyes, "Just the people in it."

"People got their eyes on the school, Vindicators ain't around when you need them, and the big guns have been missing for a week."

He yawns, "Be different if Kas and them were back, but somebody hits the school now it'd be a disaster."

Violet was surprised at the strength of the girl's reaction. Astrid had never shown near this much emotion before. "She sounds awful. She's not going to be staying at the school is she?"

Kas frowned at the realization that these things were a distraction meant to draw him farther and farther from the school. They were working too. He didn't have the fastest flight speed in school...or anywhere near the fastest speed period. Jack could probably match him for airspeed and Harry made him look positively slow, and once you considered other students...well Lex made him look as if he was standing still. The farther he got from the school, the longer it would take him to get back.

However, he couldn't allow these things to rampage unchecked through Vienna. Once again it seemed he would have to rely on Jack and Harry to do the heavy lifting, so to speak. Well, Jack, Harry, Gaspar, Lex, Martin, Felsic, Lexus, Rheid, Ellen, Mira and any others that matched or exceeded his own power.

Convincing himself the school didn't need him to defend it wasn't easy, but when push came to shove, the school had more firepower available to it than a small nation. So, he launched himself at the newest skeleton.

Assuming the summoned skeletons use the minions rules, I'll just "take 10" when it comes to Kas's attack for a total *roll* of 18. DC23 Toughness Save.

He nodded slightly. That was why they called it a continental breakfast, back home they knew how to do breakfast right. And coffee, thanks but na. Robert used to drink the stuff like it was mother's milk.

"I'm sure no one hates you, Gaspar. They all just seemed a little flummoxed-no one knew why you left. Jack and I just found out a few days ago-or a week, here."

Gwyn raised a hand, ticking off his fingers. "Lesse, Dag is with Mary now, and I think Martin's back with Tatjiana." That would queer Gas' pitch, if he wanted back in with the ginger.

"Lex and Kirstie are together, and what's more, there are a few new students you might recognize-I guess they were part of that Laputa gang. And there's an American girl too, all heavy make up and such. We've all been getting along well here, but there have been attacks-wizards of all things, looking for someone named Tallemaja."

Honestly, keeping track of gang movements was easier than keeping his classmate's interactions straight.

Martin answered the question she asked...

"It started several days ago when I noticed odd behaviors in pigeons..." He went on to explain how he knew a man who could track a pigeon from a cafe to the hotel. When Martin and Tatjana arrived as back up they found the hotel room... he'll show her the pictures of some battle plan involving multiple distractionary targets and the school as a primary one. He'll discuss the dossier post it notes including his own that said to distract him with a conspiracy - which makes all that the not-Viktor said suspicious. He'll describe the call where the villains noted they had Martin's pigeon-tracking contact and Tatjana and Martin's promise. He'll then describe the observation mission, though he leaves out how he observed them, only that he did. (if she could copy powers he'd rather she not know that the curies were capable of that - as far as he knew, that was a unique 'discovery' of his and it would be nice to be special for a little while). Then he'll list off the members at the meeting he observed, shifting into each one as he identifies them, talking about perceived and suspected powers.

He'll describe the skyline though probably a useless effort since they can transport at a whim.

"Zink you can 'elp?" he asks.

LEX'S ROOM (Lex; NPCs: Roger, Stephen)
Roger looked astonished. "They are back," he said. "I saw Kas fly up to this room a few minutes ago. Jack was off as well."

              GIRLS' DORMS (Violet; NPCs: Astrid)
"I don't think so," Astrid said angrily. "She left--she had to go save another world or something." The Austrian girl rolled her eyes.

VIENNA (Kas vs. the Giant Skeleton)
One after the other fell. Every few moments, another one appeared, and Kas moved to put it down. After the seventh skeleton, a cluster of figures rose up into the sky to join him: Quintessence, Fey, Kiln, and Pict had arrived. "We came as soon as we heard," Quintessence said. "What's going on?"

              NVAE (Harry; NPCs: Gaspar)
"I'm sure no one hates you, Gaspar. They all just seemed a little flummoxed--no one knew why you left. Jack and I just found out a few days ago--or a week, here."

Gaspar could imagine how: the only one who knew what had happened was Otso. The Finn had apparently kept his classmate's secret for as long as he could. It had to have been Otso who told Jack and Harry that Gaspar had taken a life.

"Lesse, Dag is with Mary now, and I think Martin's back with Tatjana."

The Spaniard flinched at that: the idea that Tatjana had taken Martin back, but hadn't him? It stung slightly. Then again, he knew deep down that he was in no place to be involved with anyone. As he was now, his mental state would only be a detriment to Tatjana's own psychological health.

              "Lex and Kirstie are together."

That part made him smile: he genuinely liked Lex, and thought of Kirstie as an old friend he didn't call as often as he should. The idea of them together made him happy.

"-and what's more, there are a few new students you might recognize. I guess they were part of that Laputa gang."

Gaspar froze in his tracks. The school had taken on students from Laputa? Several of the pawns were the right age to attend here, yes, but if they were here...

Tantivy, Rheid, Felsic, Candyman, Fraction--none of them concerned him. There was one member of Laputa he didn't think he could handle seeing...

"And there's an American girl, too," Harry said, failing to notice that Gaspar was no longer walking beside him. "All heavy make up and such. We've all been getting along well here, but there have been attacks--wizards of all things, looking for someone named Tallemaja."

He stopped then and looked back. Gaspar was still paralyzed in his tracks. The colour had drained from his face.

"Lexus is here?" he asked, his voice a whisper.

Lexus, the boy whose mother Gaspar had killed, had been enrolled at the school.

Gaspar began shaking his head. Suddenly, he turned, and began to walk towards the gates.

                The Blue Knight

Robert had always taught him to look for connections that weren't obvious, but he had forgotten one big one here. What with all the running to and fro different universes.

Gwyn flew back over to Gas, stopping just in front of him, hands out.

"Wait now, just for a bit. I see what it is, Lexus doesn't know you killed his ma, and going to school with him would be terribly uncomfortable. I'm not gonna try to convince you otherwise. But there's another solution."

He hadn't spent days searching through Germany to just let Gas walk away now. Suppose next time he lost control of his powers he fried someone? The Vindicators would come after him, and they'd lock him up wherever they put dangerous powers.

"Please, come with me ta see Newton. If you want, I'm sure he can help arrange a transfer to the Asian school. That way, you don't have to be out there, alone, and you don't have to worry about Lexus, either."

Gwyn was tempted to just let the boy go, and say good riddance. But that was just a negative impulse, the kind that had torn him down in that nowhere prison, the kind that made him look to other people's gifts with envy instead of appreciation.

Kas was glad the Vindicators had arrived, but he knew he had to send them away. "The skeletons are a distraction. They're luring me farther and farther from the school. Thus far they've been no real threat to me, but I can't let them run wild."

Pointing the direction of the academy, he barked; "The real threat is that way! A couple of us can easily handle these things...most of our efforts need to be focused there!"

It didn't occur to Kas that he'd immediately slipped into his authoritarian voice, he used when in command of the Volunteers.

NVAE: NEWTON'S OFFICE (Harry; NPCs: Gaspar, Newton)
Gaspar went along with Harry to the headmaster's office. Once inside, the man pressed them both for their account of their otherworldly adventure; Harry gave his, only for Gaspar to give the abridged version: "What he said," he muttered.

Harry moved on to explain the catalyst for the Spaniard's sudden sullenness. As he told Newton what Otso had told him--that Gaspar had killed Lioness in order to save Tatjana and Otso--the man's expression changed from considering to apathetic. "I'm sorry you had to cross that line, Gaspar," the man said. "I know nothing I can say will change how you feel, but... I'm thankful you feel this way."

Gaspar looked horrified--the man wanted him to be in agonizing torment?

"If you took a life and felt no remorse... you'd be no better than the people we fought. The fact that you feel this way, Gaspar... it shows that you're a man of good character."

"I'm not. I'm a murderer. I... I killed Lexus' mother, sir. Now that's he's here? Every time I see him, all I'm going to think about is... is the..."

Newton sighed. "You don't know how to face him. For now, we can arrange for you to stay in a separate building--we can work to make sure you two don't run into each other. I'll have Doctor Yavorshak talk to Lexus--she'll explain the circumstances behind-"

"No!" Gaspar shouted. "I--it would just..."

His head dropped and his shoulders sagged. "Send me to the other school. You were going to send Tatjana, right? Because of the problems with her and her cousin? Just... Just send me. Send me there. I don't..." Gaspar started to cry. "I don't want to see him, sir."

LEX'S ROOM (Lex; NPCs: Roger, Stephen)
"We'll meet you in the common room."

His family left him to change.

No sooner had he begun to plan out their next move than several skeletons swelled up at once. At least fifty of them were now towering over the city, and moving to spread out and cause as much damage as they could.

"Fey and Kiln are better equipped to deal with large numbers," Quintessence shouted, opening a portal back to the school. "Head back, Pict! I'll go collect Backlash and Hubris and join you shortly!"

The portal closed behind Pict, only for Quintessence to descend. Magnitude, Kiln, and Fey fanned out, and moved to deal with the skeletons...

Dante smirked as he watched the Vindicators fly into the air. “They’re finally here,” he said, turning to his partner. “You know what to do.”

Nicolas did not acknowledge the other wizard. Instead, he turned, and swung both of his arms out straight, raising his left one slightly higher than the other. He bent in the index finger of his right hand, while his left he folded into a fist, save for his pinkie finger. As he swung the left hand down, the right cut through the air. He wiggled his thumb as he slashed his hand down through his field of vision and then straight back up. “Dit aedenamae,” the Russian man intoned.

The air around them bristled and folded in on itself. Suddenly, they were standing in a crowd of skeletons—thousands of skeletons filled the streets. Those Viennese citizens unfortunate enough to be caught in the tsunami of bones screamed in terror. Dante tried to drown out their cries and focus instead on the task at hand.

The man’s hands wove through the air in the same intricate manner as his associate, stirring the invisible energies to create the effect he desired. “Pelsor merna essang!” Through the force of his will, he made those arcane forces bend to his command and a shock wave of energy emanated from him.

Every skeleton in his immediate vicinity began to swell in size, and stampede through the heart of Vienna.

He turned then, and grabbed Nicolas’ arm. He pointed through the throng towards the two Vindicators approaching on the ground. Backlash and Kiln—the two heroes incapable of flight.

Nicolas nodded and Dante moved to cast another spell: “Lyf,” he said. Squatting down, he jumped into the air and flew high into the sky.

Were it not for his undead minions, Nicolas would have been alone. He watched as Hubris’ strength made short work of the skeletons. Backlash’s strange aura likewise allowed him to cleave a path through them. The skeletons were not a threat to the two Vindicators… but then again, they were never intended to be.

Nicolas waved his arms and hands through the air once more, casting another spell. “Ehtovase woxasfuin.”

A tidal wave of cold, stagnant air moved through the streets. His skeletons were unaffected by the attack, but the Vindicators’ movements became sluggish as it passed over them.

They knew something was wrong, but still hadn’t spotted Nicolas through the field of animated skeletons. Nicolas focused on Hubris then, and moved to cast another spell. “Wodlit hingirr.” Suddenly, the moisture was siphoned out of the man’s very muscles. Hubris screamed and stumbled. Backlash moved to grab him—to protect him with his aura. Such a spell would not work against him, Nicolas knew: any attack focused on that man would rebound back to the source.

Instead, he had another trick up his sleeve: “Earf,” he said, casting a spell on the Cockney hero.

Panic set in as Backlash’s worst fears came to life in his mind. Screaming in horror, he let go of Hubris—letting his teammate fall to the ground, he fled the battle as fast as he could.

The skeletons closed their bony fingers around Hubris’ wrists and ankles, and moved to carry him off…

And just like that...everything went to hell. Just like in the other universe, they were instantly back on their heels. Their enemy knew them and they didn't know their enemy...except this reminded Kas of events not even a year past. Substitute alligators for skeletons and the scenario was suspiciously like the encounter with the mages at the zoo.

The mages were eventually beaten when he and his fellow students concentrated their efforts on them, not their summoned beasts. Swap a Necromancer for the animal summoner and the scenario was near identical. With a grim smile, the blind hero reached out with his senses. The mages would not be panicking in the sea of undead, where the public was out of their minds with fear. Fortunately, Kasimir's senses were accurate at ranges far beyond the human norm.

It was time to hunt for wizards...then crush them.

Notice check. 1d20+10=25. Kas's Spatial Awareness, is Acute and Extended (Accurate is built into the power already).

Initiative (when needed) 1d20+3=9. Yep...that's about normal for me.
