LEX'S ROOM (Lex; NPCs: Roger, Stephen)
"How's about a boys' day out?" suggested Lex's father. "I talked to that Ander fella, and he's up for taking us to this place... Obertraun? There's this river that's supposed to be great for fly fishing! What do you say, Lex? How's a little male bonding sound?"

VIENNA (Kas vs. the Giant Skeleton)
The skeleton pulled back a bony fist and swung wildly for Magnitude. Though its colossal size meant an increase in power, it appeared to do nothing for the monster's accuracy: the young hero effortlessly dodged the blow.

DAG'S ROOM (Guispar; NPCs: Dag and Mary)
"Dag, everyone's parents were working for Laputa. Zat's not a recruitment strategy for zem. I fought Laputa alongside everyone else on zat flying island. I absorbed my parents to try to imprison zem, and later fought zeir psyche's when zey tried to take me over. Most of ze Sophomore class can attest to zis."

"Then why are you trying to warn one of their people?" Dag demanded.

    VIOLET's ROOM (Violet)
As Violet left her room, she passed a crying Astrid, making her way towards her own room.

For the last week, Astrid had been gone. The administration had made an announcement: Kasamir Flaegler, Harry Percy, Jack Rexroth, Astrid Tiel, and Gaspar Zorrilla e Higueras--whoever that was--were going to be away for an indeterminate amount of time.

Now, it not only seemed that Astrid was back, but she looked devastated by the trip.

    FRONT LAWN (Harry; NPCs: Gaspar)
"It's not every day we stop a war, and in another world, no less."

"I think you're underselling it." Gaspar ran a hand through his hair. "It's not every day we're whisked away to not just one but two alternate dimensions. And the jet lag... It was night when we left the palace, and it looks like it's early morning here. But we left Austria for Austria. Time is wonky, and..." He yawned. "I'm tired. I'm tired, but I'm also ready to go. The excitement is...

"Okay, we go see Newton, tell him what happened, and then food?"

"Uuuuhhh," Lex said still bleary eyed.

He didn't like leaving the school while most of the heavy hitters were missing. Especially since he was damn sure that the school was the target of at least one group of insane 'wizards'.

"Kinda?" Lex rubbed his hair, "I mean... I do, but who's going to watch the school?"

The giant fist was easy enough to dodge. Sliding leeward, Kas wasn't certain whether it was because the skeleton was simply a poor combatant or he'd just gotten lucky. Point of fact, the entire scenario was suspicious because unlike the comic books, random monsters, with no greater agenda than destruction did not coincidentally attack the city, just as the hero was flying by. More likely was the prospect that someone had been waiting for one of the academy's active student or faculty members to wander into their sights and the skeleton was a probing assault...something meant to gauge the threat evel of a particular individual.

There was also the possibility that he was the specific target of this attack, though that seemed less likely, given the fact his patrol was the first in a week and he never held to a defined pattern of flight. Still, however remote, it was a possibility they were gunning for him.

If that was the case, Kas would have to defeat this thing without displaying every weapon in his arsenal. At the moment, the mastermind behind this attack...and he assumed there was a mastermind behind it...had him at a disadvantage.

Frowning behind his mask, he opted to spend some time seeing exactly how tough the enemy was. Pointing at it to help "visualize" his aim, he unleashed a stream of gravitons.

Gravity Blast. 1d20+8=17. If that hits, it's a Toughness DC23.

Martin regarded Dag with raised eyebrow. Had the hyper vigilant student missed that he said he was asking for assistance. He had no time for this.

Martin raised his voice to address the room. "Mary, it is not my intention to ruin anything you 'ave going for you. May we speak in private?"

Violet paused as Astrid went by crying. She didn't know the girl very well. No one but Kas did. But what if something had happened on the trip? If someone had been hurt or killed, Violet wanted to know. She turned and called after the crying girl. "Astrid, are you all right? What's happened?"

He smiled. "Ya, and real food, none of that aristo fancy stuff, real food-sausage, meat pies. Sounds graate."

Gwyn still thought it was weird that their headmaster was Issac flippin Newton. Paladin had told him more'n a year ago he was the real dude-though Gwyn wasn't sure how he'd figured it out, the guy didn't look much like any of the old pictures. But the Welshman apparently had a demon in him-though he doubted it-and with all the other craziness, living forever didn't seem so impossible.

"Kinda?" Lex rubbed his hair, "I mean... I do, but who's going to watch the school?"

Roger looked confused. "The Vindicators, son." He obviously didn't think as poorly of their track record as Lex did. "Son, it's not your responsibility to protect this school. You... You can't, Lex."

VIENNA (Kas vs. the Giant Skeleton)
The stream of gravitons struck the enormous skeleton and it vanished from sight. There was no trace of the monster left.

Before Kas could breath easily, another appeared a few blocks over: another skeleton swelling in size...

DAG'S ROOM (Guispar; NPCs: Dag and Mary)
"Mary, it is not my intention to ruin anything you 'ave going for you. May we speak in private?"

"I told you, Mary's not..." Dag stopped suddenly. His eyes shifted towards his closet as the door opened. Of course, with his powers, he would know if Mary was about to reveal herself the moment she began to move.

Dag wasn't the only one who could detect her: only now could Martin smell her. She must have darted into the closet, only to change her shape behind the door. Dag would remain oblivious to any change that wouldn't affect her cosmetically, while Mary would allude anyone like Martin, Jack, Lexus--any of the students whose repertoire didn't include a heightened sniffer.

The closet door opened, and Mary stepped out, wearing one of Dag's shirts. "What's this about?" she asked nervously. She was playing dumb--trying to maintain the facade of innocence for her boyfriend. "You said something happened to Tatjana?"

                    GIRLS' DORMS (Violet; NPCs: Astrid)
"We went on this stupid adventure to another world, and I was useless. Kas saved a princess, Harry and Jack stopped the bad guys, Gaspar saved us from being executed, Stupid Drifter tricked the bad guys into confession... I got drunk and got stabbed.

"I'm useless. Kas knows it. He's going to kick me off the Volunteers, and..." She hid her face in her hands. "They were holding hands!"

                    FRONT LAWN (Harry; NPCs: Gaspar)
"I don't normally eat a big breakfast," Gaspar said, "usually just some coffee and magdalenas--maybe a churro... Today, though? I think I will try to eat Siege's entire pantry."

As the two walked, Gaspar rubbed his armored stomach. "Do you know how long it's been since I've had Siege's cooking?" he asked. "Since I've actually had a real meal? I never resorted to stealing--I got by on change I found on the ground. All these months, I've been living on garbage." He bit his lip as he thought about all of the things the school's cook could make. "I don't even know where to start. Do you think it would be weird to ask him to make some paella? I haven't had paella in forever..."

A light went on in his head. "Do... do you know if Tatjana's okay? Is she dating anyone? And how is Martin? Is he still with Mary?" It had been a long time since Gaspar had left the school. "What about Lex? Has he manned up and asked Kirstie out yet? And Doug and Mike? How are the other guys doing?"

His expression suddenly soured. "They probably hate me..."

Astrid was babbling. Violet had no idea who Drifter was and had only a vague idea about Gaspar. But from Astrid's expression, it was clear was the real issue was. "Who was holding hands?"

                          "Who was holding hands?"

"Kas and that dumb bitch Drifter!" Astrid exclaimed, as if that should have been obvious.

                          DAG'S ROOM (Martin; NPCs: Mary)
"It'll be fine, sweetie," Mary said, looking to Dag. Dag hesitated before Mary smiled at him. "He's very insistent. It's obvious he won't leave before he's heard out, and you'll be right outside if he tries anything."

Finally, Dag moved to leave the room, stopping in front of Martin. He cast the Frenchman a warning look before leaving his room.

"You're obviously aware of who I am," Mary said, "and that's fine. Dag is not, however, and I would appreciate if you kept this little secret.

"If, however, you have thoughts of trying to bring me down for my role in Laputa's actions, I'll warn you: I have several contingency spells cast on me. If you take any action that could be perceived as a threat, the energy I've woven around myself will react and reduce your mental faculties to the level of tapioca pudding. I doubt you'll be able to help anyone then."

She took a deep breath and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Now then, tell me about the people who took Tatjana? And your aversion to plants and... aerial observation? We're dealing with someone with powers similar to Randy O'Shae, I take it? A relative of his? Someone who can fly, as well?

"Start at the beginning. Leave nothing out."

For a moment, relief washed over Kasimir when the skeleton vanished. Then one appeared blocks away and that relief receded with the same speed it arrived. This was not good. Kas was already tired. He had simply wanted to make an appearance then go to bed.

With an irritated growl, he rocketed toward the new opponent. "This is going to get old. Rapidly."

As he closed, he thrust his palm forward, sending out another burst of energy.

Gravity Blast. 1d20+8=13. If that hits the giant skeleton, it's once again a DC23 Toughness Save.

Violet nodded. Of course it had to do with Kas, whom Astrid followed around religiously. It was probably the only reason she even cared about being in the Volunteers. "Who is Drifter? Is she the one that took you away for a week?"

VIENNA (Kas vs. the Giant Skeleton)
Almost as soon as the new skeleton appeared, it disappeared after Magnitude's attack had connected. A moment passed, and nothing else appeared.

It was almost half a minute later when another skeleton rose up from the ground behind Kas--close to where the others had appeared. If anything, it confirmed one of his suspicions: whoever was conjuring these things needed time to do it. Moreover, they were on the move--creating them away from each one.

Each one was forming away from the school. Magnitude Someone was trying to keep him busy...

It's like she'll die if she wears a shirt that's the right size for her... Stupid cow... And she's all, 'Ooo, Kas! Watch how smart I am! I'm going to trick people into giving up their master plan! I'm so brilliant, aren't I?' Like, if you don't pay attention to her, she'll just explode."
