    Kasimir Flaegler

Kas was thrown off momentarily by the sidetrek to the desolate earth, but relieved when they arrived home shortly thereafter. Drifter saved her last words before vanishing for Gwyn. Kas supposed that was fitting, since in Gwyn's future and Drifter's past, they would share a romantic entanglement and now, in her future she had shared a mutual attraction with him. The German youth tried not to be wistful about potentially witnessing a romance between his friend and the dimension hopping Neo-Sapien. Harry was, after all, probably the single classmate he shared the most in common with personality-wise. Inwardly he shrugged. He'd deal with his emotions when the time arrived. Dwelling on it now was useless.

No, better for all that he got out of the ridiculously ostentatious clothing of a German noble of that other-earth. Launching himself into the air, he flew up to his window and slid it open, entering from the outside. Better this was than have to explain time and time again why he was dressed like he belonged in a period film. Digging through his clothes, he managed to get another Vindicators uniform on, the pulled on a loose shirt and dungarees. He had no reason to grab a dufflebag, since his helmet was now lost in another dimension. He would have to order a new one. With any luck, it would arrive quickly after being ordered.

Stepping out of his room, he headed straight for the cafeteria. He was hungry. Much had happened in the last few hours and he hadn't had a chance to eat since long before he got tossed into limbo with warden Bulwark. Getting off the elevator, he nearly walked straight into Dr. Yavorshak.

"Kasimir!" she exclaimed, hopping backward. "When did you get back?"

"Just now, Fraulein Yavorshak. I hope the last couple days have been quiet."

"Last couple of days? Kasimir, you, Jack and the others have been gone for a week."

That froze kas in his tracks. A week? Obviously time was not synchronous between dimensions. That was something to keep in mind for the future, should such an escapade happen again.

"A week? Small wonder I'm hungry. Well, it's good to be back doktor. I will make certain to check in with Doktor Fischer once I've eaten."

"Is everyone else back as well?"

"Ja. Back and full of stories I'm sure. Nobody even died more than once on the whole mission." He finishes cheekily.

That last left Stephanie at a loss for words, which Kas used as an opportunity to scoot around her and dodge into the cafeteria.

      [Jack Rexroth]
      HP: 1

The side trip the Astrolab gave the group through Jack off for a moment, the plain deadness of it all left him wondering just what in the hell happened to that world and what Drifter would end up dealing with when she went back there. The Astrolab didn't seem to be too 'user friendly' from what he'd seen of it, kinda just dumped her somewhere and left her to figure out the details. As they returned home Jack couldn't help but wonder how long it might be before they saw the Drifter again now that she knew they'd help her.

Taking in the sight of the school Jack relaxed finally. Damn he'd missed it, not that he'd admit it to anyone - that other place was all kinds of nuts and Jack was ready to get the hell out of his outfit and back into a pair of comfortable jeans and a t-shirt.

Right after he grabbed a shower. Hell's bells he stunk since he'd not bathed at all the couple of days they'd been on their other-world adventure.

"Catch you all later." Jack said to the others as he simply walked for the entrance then made his way for his room, the American simply was not worried about the reactions of the other students or teachers that might see his outfit. After grabbing a change of clothes he headed down the hall for the showers then to the Headmaster's office; it probably a good idea to let Newton know they were back.

Newton's receptionist told Jack to have a seat after he'd given his name and told her he needed to talk to the Headmaster, but he didn't because he knew he'd not have to wait long and he was right - as soon as she told Newton who was here to see him, Jack was told to go on in. After welcoming Jack back Newton got down to business, wanting to know what had happened and how everyone was. Fortunately the news Jack had was good - they'd helped Drifter accomplish her goal and hadn't been seriously hurt. That brought an appreciative smile to the much older man's face and he thanked Jack for letting him know they were back in one piece. Also during that conversation Jack learned that while it had only been a few days from his perspective it was actually a week since he, Kas, Harry, Gas and Astrid had left with the Drifter.

Damn time travel, other world jumping, whatever.

After that the tattooed teen hit the cafeteria for some of Siege's cooking, and after a stack of pancakes with syrup, a half dozen eggs, five or so pieces of toast, and a lot of fried ham later and Jack had silenced his angry stomach and he decided to call it a night as he hadn't sleep too much these last few days, week, whatever.

After a light meal Kas felt a comfortable torpor sneaking up on him. Yawning, he rolled his shoulders in an effort to shake it off. Maybe eating wasn't such a good idea after all. He'd been absent a week, which meant there were things he had to do. He had to pick up his missed school assignments. He had to touch base with Doktor Fischer. He had to get a new helmet.

Before any of that, there was one thing he needed to do first.

Making his way back up to his room, he stripped off his civilian clothes and dug a balaclava out of his winter wardrobe. Pulling it on, he opened his window and leapt out into the air. He accelerated to about 90kph and hugged the skyline over Vienna. With the exception of maneuvering around obstacles, he made certain to stay about 100 feet in altitude. The people needed to see him...to know he was back.

After all...who knew what kind of mischief was happening in his absence.

He flew all over the city for about an hour, then turned for home. He really was tired and about 10 solid hours of sleep seemed like just the cure for what ailed him.

          BOYS' DORMS (Martin)
Someone stirred on the other side. It was a few more minutes before Dag opened up the door and waved Gaspar in. "When did you get back?" he asked. "What's going on?"

Inside, Tallemaja was nowhere to be seen.

FRONT LAWN (Harry, Jack; NPCs: Astrid and Gaspar)
Once Kas took flight, Astrid left. Jack departed soon after. Harry followed Gaspar's lead and removed his helmet. "Should make a good souvenir, what?"

Gaspar nodded in agreement, staring down at his own absconded helm. "I was thinking the same thing," he said. "I doubt Fisher will let me keep the sword, though...

"I probably need to go talk to her, don't I?" He sighed. "They're not just going to let me forget the last few months. I suppose they're going to want to talk to everyone, though--find out what happened over there."

He looked very uncomfortable suddenly. "Thanks, Captain," he muttered under his breath.

          LEX'S ROOM (Lex; NPCs: Roger)
Lex buried his face in his pillow and sleep took him for a time. There was no telling how long he'd been allowed to snooze before he was awoken by a knocking on his door. "Lex?" called his father's voice. "You up, son?"

          VIOLET's ROOM (Violet)
There was some shuffling. The man called out in German. A few moments later, she could hear the phone being passed over. "Hello?" said a man with a German accent. "Hello, who is this?"

Violet gave her name, only to find out that she had dialed back a public phone. It was a phone kept in the jail, for the inmates to use to call out.

          VIENNA (Kas)
Magnitude stood on the sky, overlooking his adoptive city. He needed to be seen--to reassure the people of Vienna that after a week's absence, he was still here.

          He was seen.

A skeleton rose up from the city. Magnitude watched as it swelled in size--growing from ten to twenty feet in under a second. In the blink of an eye, it was well over one-hundred feet tall, and moving to attack him.

As he made his way back to his room, he ran into a morose Beatrice, and learned the fate that had befallen Otso and Viktor in Romania: a run in with a mysterious new player had left the two unable to control their powers. Viktor could not stop moving and Otso was permanently bound in his bear form. As she told Jack about Otso's voluntary quarantine, the French girl began to cry. It was obvious that having no contact with the Finn was having an effect on his friends.

On his way to his room, Jack was stopped by Fiore, Buddy, and Mario, who had apparently spent every waking moment since he left thinking of questions they could ask upon his return.

"Lex isn't here, please leave a message and he'll call you back later," Lex groans from his bed.

When the door starts to move he yells, "Just give me a minute; I'm up! I'm up!" and frantically scrambles to pull on a pair of sweatpants he'd left hanging off the end of his bed.

Violet only knew one person who was in jail last night. And she didn't want to talk to him. "Er... well. I didn't realize this was a public phone. Must have been a mistake. Sorry." Explanation given, Violet hung up. She couldn't imagine why Wolf would think she'd even take his call last night.

With nothing pressing to do, Violet got dressed and texted Eve brkfast?

'Gaspar' immediately looks for any plants in the room. He tries to keep up the banter. "Hey, Where's Mary? She didn't have to leave on my account." Gaspar-Martin says. "Oh, here." he says reaching under a jacket and 'producing' an envelope as he described earlier formed from his own matter. "That's yours right?" he shows it to Dag.

It reads: Say 'No'. Plant-based spies and bird spies are watching the school.

                  LEX'S ROOM (Lex; NPCs: Roger)
Lex put his pants on and answered the door. There stood Roger Murphy, wearing a maddening grin; a sulking Stephen Murphy stood behind him, glaring at his family. "How's it going?" Roger asked. "Got plans for breakfast?"

                  VIOLET's ROOM (Violet)
It was a few minutes before Eve replied: not hungry

DAG'S ROOM (Guispar; NPCs: Dag and Mary)
"Hey, Where's Mary?" The window over Dag's bed was curtained off--no threat of birds seeing in. As far as Martin could tell, there were no plants in the room. How strong were Randy's abilities, though? Cotton began life as a plant--could Randy still see through cotton after it had been harvested and made into a shirt? Was it possible for Robor to watch them through the sheets? Through the pillow shams? "She didn't have to leave on my account."

Dag, whose power made it so that he was never surprised, looked surprised. "I think she's still in her room," he said. "We're supposed to meet up for breakfast in a bit. What's up, Gaspar? How are you? It's been so long since-"

"Oh, here," the faux Spaniard said, reaching under his jacket and 'producing' an envelope. "That's yours right?"

Dag looked at it, then looked up at Martin. "No," he said, obviously confused. "What's going on, Gaspar? Are you okay? S-should I get Doctor Yavorshak?"

Martin seamlessly recalled that Randy needed living plants to see through. Cotton and wooden objects should be safe, though there was always a chance that Robor was more powerful. Having just come from Mary's dorm, Martin knew they weren't planning to meet up at breakfast.

'Gaspar' turns to face 'Dag' squarely. He keeps his voice low, so low that someone hiding in a closet wouldn't hear. "Actually, I jus' needed to speak wiz Tallemaja." he says in his own voice, form shifting to that of his truer self. "I wanted to warn 'er and ask 'er 'elp. Bad men are planning to attack ze school and 'ave taken Tatjana wiz ze conditions zat I not warn ze school or it's affiliates. Zey said nozing about ze last vestiges of a terrorist organization." Martin smirks mirthlessly.

"Do I 'ave your attention yet?" He gazes levelly at 'Dag'.

"Uuuuhhh," Lex blinked and wiped some sleep out of his eyes while his tired mind tried to process the question, "Breakfast?"

He turned to look back at his room as though it would give him some kind of indication of... anything. All that happened was that his knee crunched sickeningly as it popped back into place. After everything that had happened he'd crawled into bed before fixing the damage from the quick dash to save Rose.

God, had that really happened? Saving Rose sounded more like a nightmare.

His attention drifted back to his Dad, and an extremely impatient looking Steven and realized his mind had wandered.

                      "Uh, no. No plans,"
He said fighting a yawn, "What's up?"

DAG'S ROOM (Guispar; NPCs: Dag and Mary)
"Actually, I jus' needed to speak wiz Tallemaja."

As Martin took his own form, Dag looked even more perplexed than he had a moment ago.

"I wanted to warn 'er and ask 'er 'elp. Bad men are planning to attack ze school and 'ave taken Tatjana wiz ze conditions zat I not warn ze school or it's affiliates. Zey said nozing about ze last vestiges of a terrorist organization." Martin smirked mirthlessly. "Do I 'ave your attention yet?"

Dag looked appalled. "Tallemaja's... That's the man Jack fought on the island, right?" The color drained from his face--no doubt as he remembered the event where he had almost died.

It was apparent that Dag was not privy to his girlfriend's true identity. He didn't know that Mary was Tallemaja... but something else struck Martin suddenly: if Dag didn't know that Mary and Tallemaja were the same person, he was likely still under the impression that Mary's power only let her adopt another appearance. She wouldn't have phased through the walls or floor to escape when he came knocking, as that would shatter the illusion she'd put him under. Likewise, she wasn't likely to just shapeshift into something innocuous. She could mask her scent by adopting new shapes, Martin had deduced--she very well could duplicate the physical traits of whatever she became. It stood to reason that Mary could have been the blankets on Dag's bed, or a chair by his desk... but if she was keeping him under the impression that she was nothing more than mild-mannered Mary Ljungdahl, she wouldn't transform like this with him in the room.

She was still here, and very likely hiding herself.

"What's going on, Martin? You're..." A wave of realization washed over him. "Oh, God, your parents... You were... You're working for Laputa?"

Kas drew up short in mid-air when the giant skeleton appeared. That could not be coincidence. Shaking his head, he asked to nobody in particular, his voice thick with exasperation; Honestly? I don't even get one day back in the city before this starts? You could try being a little more original at the very least. Lex Murphy already fought off an assault by a giant skeleton this year."

Despite sounding peevish and less than impressed, Kas already knew there were combat options that weren't open to him. Without his helmet, his costumes didn't seal against the elements, nor did he have a built in oxygen supply...or more correctly, he had an emergency rebreather, but no way to access it. On top of that, he had no GPS or Vindicators comm-link, so calling for assistance was not going to happen.

That left fight or flee and generally speaking, he was not a flee type of guy. Cracking his knuckles, he growled; "Okay, lassen sie uns dies tun gruul-abschaum."*

This was... actually Dag. Dangit. He was counting on this being Mary herself, especially at the uncharacteristic surprise that Warder showed earlier. Worse yet, Dag was clueless on the nature of Tallemaja.

If Tallemaja was still in the room as Mary then she'd still be giving off 'Mary'-scent. Martin inhaled deeply to try to pinpoint the hiding girl.

But first he had to deal with this false impression.
Martin regarded Dag levelly. "Dag, *everyone's* parents were working for Laputa. Zat's not a recruitment strategy for zem."

"I fought Laputa alongside everyone else on zat flying island. I absorbed my parents to try to imprison zem, and later fought zeir psyche's when zey tried to take me over. Most of ze Sophomore class can attest to zis."

"Well, we can tell her and Newton together, ya? You too Astrid, right? It's not every day we stop a war, and in another world, no less."

While making his way to see the Headmaster, Gwyn thought that another world might be where Robert was. Mayhap he had switched spots with his double, the man he'd met in London. The constable hadn't seen him lately, and Gwyn often wondered where the man had gone. He didn't like the notion of someone out there with Robert's face, doing who knows what. Even when Robert got back to his life, the damage could be hard to fix.
