Lex looked at Kirstie blankly for a moment then starts chuckling.

"And you call me stubborn?" Lex asked shaking his head, "I'm all like 'you could get hurt' and you're like 'on the other hand, sex'."

"Just so you know, if you get hurt because of this I'm going to kill myself before your dad can get a hold of me."

Pressing a button, he motioned for Martin to begin recording his message to Tatjana.
rewind, since I like this idea as well.
Martin looks at the phone. "Be sure to show zis to your boss as well." he says, glancing to the Spaniard.

"Tatjana, Mi Amo, Stay strong, please. Zis will be over soon. I love you so very much."

His face turns serious. "To 'er captors, know zis, every scratch in 'er skin, every bruise on 'er body, every tear she's shed will be visited upon your band of terrorists ten-fold. Safe-guard 'er well. Ze only zing keeping me from being a chemical weapon of mass destruction is my own morality and ze vestiges of 'umanity zat I choose to cling to. Do NOT test me. Ever." With that, he turns around and leaves.

He heads for the book store as described earlier.

An hour was an interminable wait. Twice, Violet had to keep herself from sending additional messages and she was close to dozing off when her phone finally beeped. She jerked straight up in her bed, read the message and replied. u were so mad at the club. i was scared u wuldnt tlk to me again

HOFBURG PALACE: THE DUNGEON (Blue Knight, Kas, Jack; NPCs: Astrid, Bulwark, Drifter, Gabriel, Gabrielle, Ulrich)
"Don't play this foolishly," Kas said. "Stay together. Bring our suspicions and testimony to Sophie as a united front and let her judge. Let her inform her father the emporer of the attempt at regicide. Justice will be done, but it will be carried out in a manner unimpeachable. Remember, even if you succeed in slaying Oscar, you are mercenaries, so the assumption will be you and your brother simply sold your loyalty to a more generous benefactor...and that assumption will doom you. Even political rivals of the Austrians will not trust you and most would see your betrayal as a sign you are better off dead, since you are incredibly powerful and woefully traitorous."

Gabrielle rolled her eyes. "We take this to the emperor--what then? You really think he'll punish his only son? You really think it'll stop him from carrying out his plans? We go to the emperor, and nothing will happen. The princess will be killed, and Oscar will one day take the throne. What then? It's better we end him now, before he comes into power."

Kas pointed a finger at her, his voice low and dangerous. "I interceded on your behalf with Bulwark... you owe me. Plus..." He said nonchalantly. "...I promised the warden we would not try to escape. How could I break a promise to the last survivor of the Flemish navy?"

"It was a bitter day when I gained that title. Gus van Droogenbroeck was stalwart seaman--the likes of which Flanders has neigh seen since. It was with a heavy heart that I accepted such a title." The warden feigned to wipe a tear from his eye before looking towards the Heavens. "He's sucking at Odin's teet now, the All-Father rest his salty soul."

          DONAUSTADT POLIZEIWACHZIMMER (Lex; NPCs: Kirstie)
Kirstie just sat staring at Lex, clearly at a loss for words. Finally, she got up, and began to make her way out of the station.

GRAND HOTEL WIEN (Martin; NPCs: Caballero)
Arriving at the bookstore, Martin found the register unattended. It was a few moments before a young woman--the blonde from the other night--emerged. At the sight of Martin, all the energy she had exploded into the room went out of her. "Oh," the Welsh girl said, "it's just you. Thought you was Remy."

Martin would greet her by name, flawlessly remembered from their prior meeting.

"Zere 'as been a problem..." Martin will describe the afternoon's events from the cafe to the bird to the hotel where Rembrandt was captured. True to his word he doesn't mention imminent attacks or school business. He asks if there was anything she or her fellow mages can do to help find the man.

Gwyn looked at Gabriel coldly, although he imagined it was lost with the flames around his face and all.

"Your sister died once today. Are you willing to risk that happening another time? We need to be onna same page here."

He looked to Elizabeth. "Tell em, Lampy."

                        DONAUSTADT POLIZEIWACHZIMMER (Lex; NPCs: Kirstie)
An officer offered to drive the young couple back to the school. The entire way, Kirstie was silent. Worse, she barely even looked in Lex's direction.

THE DUST JACKET (Martin; NPCs: Gwen)
Martin was halfway through his story when a look of panic came over Gwen. The blonde girl held up a hand to stop him and ran into the back room. A moment later, the others were funneling out, and Martin began his story over.

When he was finished, Chuck narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "How convenient for you," he said, his voice dripping with hostility.

HOFBURG PALACE: KAS' ROOM (Blue Knight, Kas, Jack; NPCs: Astrid, Bulwark, Drifter, Gabriel, Gabrielle)
Gabriel looked terrified of Blue Knight's glare. For the life of him, he couldn't fathom what he'd done to warrant such aggression. "You both have points," he said. "Gabby, running off to get these guys will get us nowhere. And going to the emperor won't mean squat either."

                            I'm sorry.

Violet didn't know what else to say. Jakob was determined to be mad and she felt like it was going to be the end of their friendship. After sending the message, she turned off her phone. She couldn't take any more tonight.

Lex spent the ride home staring out the window, not inclined to open his mouth after the last incident.

He was tired, confused, embarrassed, in pain thanks to his burst of super speed, and now feeling very much alone. And he didn't feel like trying to fix things after the whole incident with Viktor's brother blew up in his face.

He'd do what he said he would, make some soup and wait for her to not show up. Then go to bed. Maybe things would seem better in the morning.

THE DUST JACKET (Martin; NPCs: Chuck, Dante, Gwen, Mikayla, Nicholas)
When he was finished, Chuck narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "How convenient for you," he said, his voice dripping with hostility.

"In what manner?" Martin asked perplexed.

"In the manner that our truce has been uneasy at best, and you lured away the one person in our camp who could detect the truth. Even more convenient, there's not a shred of evidence you can give us concerning Rembrandt's supposed captors."

Dante stiffened. His leg shifted. He was poised to attack. As if sensing a fight brewing, Mikayla slipped her PSP into the pocket of her coat.

The night passed, and morning came.

                                NVAE (Lex; NPCs: Kirstie)
Once they were back at the school, Kirstie turned towards him. She turned towards him, but kept her eyes on the ground. "Good night, Lex," she said, her voice weak and apathetic. "Talk to you tomorrow."

HOFBURG PALACE: KAS' ROOM (Blue Knight, Kas, Jack; NPCs: Astrid, Bulwark, Drifter, Gabriel, Gabrielle, Sophie)
The twins reluctantly agreed to go along with the dimension-hopping heroes' plan, albeit with one caveat: they were not about to waste another moment on looking for Gaspar--not when their search could cause them to run into Oscar and his minions. "If we're going to do this, we need to do it," Gabrielle insisted. "We need to involve the princess before we misstep."

Gabrielle took them to Sophie's chambers, where a sickly Christian stood silent guard.

At their sudden appearance, he moved to attack, but the Drifter quickly calmed him. She explained the situation and their intentions. He allowed Gabriel--and only Gabriel--to approach the crown princess. The Egyptian boy worked his magic, and restored Sophie's senses.

Kas explained the situation to her. The Farouk twins confessed to being part of the conspiracy against her. The Drifter explained how the Astrolabe's power, and how they were not native to this world.

When they had finished, Sophie looked about to cry.
