    Alex "Current" Murphy
    HP: 2 CND: Normal

Lex gives Martin a raised eyebrow when the Frenchman unexpectedly snapped at him.

He was just trying to make sure that everything was ready to go so that Mira didn't melt their faces off, something that could easily happen if he started talking too early. He wondered for a moment if it was because he'd answered his phone instead of letting it ring, if Martin was really upset about telling Mira the truth (even though he really hadn't said anything about it after their discussion on the way over), or if he was just jealous about Lex getting a call from his girlfriend. He kind of hoped it was the last one, if only because it made Martin seem a little more human.

He liked the apple jello man, but he was a little weird some times.

He glanced over to Mira, looking for some moral support, or at least a response only to find her watching him expectantly. He wasn't going to get any help from that front.

He sighed then shrugged in surrender.

"Okay, fine," He looked over at Mira, "We had two options going into this. One was keeping you in the dark. You'd be safer, probably happy, and you probably wouldn't be mad at us."

"But you're our friend, and we respect you to do the right thing."

He runs a hand through his hair,
"When we found out what happened we had to try to stop you. I mean, if you'd killed somebody, or even attacked the building chances are these guys wouldn't have given you a chance to explain it wasn't your choice. They actually tried to kill you when you got there, we just got lucky and they sent the wrong person."

    Lex starts to pace,
"We managed to beat you to England. Just barely, but we did it. We broke into their headquarters, but we never even saw the woman you were trying to break out. Martin shapeshifted to look like her then ran out onto the roof."

"I played boy distraction for the guys who came charging up to the roof, and Martin managed to put you to sleep."

"There's more stuff that happened, some psychic contacted Martin, his sister might have been in the building."

He stopped pacing and ran his hand through his hair again, turning to face Mira,
"When you woke up we were terrified you'd still be compelled to attack their base. And this time they'd have an entire army of murdering nutjobs they call agents ready and waiting. And they'd have killed all of us without blinking an eye if they could have pulled it off. They $#*(ing tried."

"So we lied to you until we could get somewhere safe and tell you the truth,"
Lex looks at the floor, "Look, I'm sorry. We're not proud of it, but we couldn't let you throw your life away. Not like that when you didn't have any choice in the matter."

"So far as I know the only thing you're guilty of is trespassing, maybe breaching some airspace,"
he shrugged again, "We'd have to talk to the lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you're okay. You'll still be able to go home and visit your family, and Viktor. None of us need to go on the run from the law."

"But that lady you're trying to help? I'm sorry, Mira, but she's still locked up."

As soon as Blue Knight's voice whispered in his ear that they'd acquired their target, Kas shifted his focus.

"Well, this has been fun, but I've got to be on my way. Maybe we can do this dance again some time?"

And with that, he rocketed up to the rooftop.

"None of the enemies below seem to be able to fly, but I wouldn't doubt that they're fast enough to make it up here quickly. Teleporters and all that nonsense. We've got to go...immediately."

He'd bother with introductions and other niceties when they had time.

          CHURCH (Violet; NPCs: Wolf)
"Don't expect a call this time either."

Wolf glared at her. "I don't," he said as the police pulled into the church parking lot. "I know I'm not going to hear from you, but you're going to hear from me. This isn't over, Violet. There are countless people who are sick and tired of you freaks using your powers on us." The officers got out of their cars and were facing towards the ice slick. "And we're everywhere. We run the restaurants you eat at. We're in the government."

An officer shouted something at them in German.

"We're on the police," Wolf said, grinning at the British girl. "We're inside your little school, too."

The officer shouted again and Wolf slowly raised his hands in surrender. "You speebs are a dying breed," he told her.

Before long, the police had everything sorted out: the members of Crux were in cuffs; the boys they'd captured were in ambulances; Doctor Fisher and Doctor Yavorshak arrived to tend to Violet and Rose, while Jakob's mother arrived, looking for her son.

"I'll, uh... call you later..." he nervously said to Violet. He leaned in to whisper. "I really want to kiss you right now, but... my mom is here, and this has already been a pretty weird first date. Can we have a do-over? I mean, unless you think I'm bad luck, or something?"

WRECK ROOM (Lex and Martin; NPCs: Fisher, Mira)
"Thank you," Mira said, looking at both of them. "For doing what you did, and for telling me the truth. I don't deserve mates like you...

"So, how do we go get Elle?"

VIENNA (Blue Knight, Greystone, Magnitude, Ursa; NPCs: Bacon and Newton)
It was another long trip back to Vienna and Bacon spent most of it in quiet contemplation. The man spoke when he was spoken to and was friendly enough with the New Vindicators, but it was more than apparent to everyone that the situation was weighing heavily on his heart.

As they descended on the lawn of the school, they found the headmaster waiting on the lawn for them.

"I'm glad to see you all returned safely," he said.

After he had personally thanked each of them, he settled on his old friend. "Roger."

"Isaac," intoned the doctor. "You have a funny way of inviting someone over."

"Well, if someone would just get a phone, or a computer, or..." He smiled cheekily at the other ageless man. "I'm eager to hear all about Uganda, but I imagine you'll want to rest from your travels."

"What's the meaning of all this, Isaac?"

Newton considered the doctor for a moment. "There was some sort of situation in the States, and our physician left to help them out."

          "And you thought of me."

"It would be just until Doctor Talley returned."

Bacon shook his head. "I was doing good where I was, Isaac! I was helping people!"

"You were taken prisoner by terrorists," Newton argued. "We're helping people." He gestured to Magnitude. "This young man has organized a group of his students who patrol Vienna... Do you know how drastically crime has fallen since the Volunteers formed?" He nodded to Blue Knight. "That young man was a crime fighter back in our old stomping grounds, Roger. Jack was instrumental in shutting down one of Al-Akhwan's bases in Algeria, and Otso has face members of the UUB three times now.

"You want to help people? Work with us, Roger. Like I said, we need someone until Samantha is back. Give us until then to show you that this is where you can make the biggest difference."

Martin looked at her speculatively to see if she was compelled to follow her last promise after all. If the importance of that, to her, outweighed the importance of her promise regarding Abigail.

            Regardless, he answers carefully.

"In order to truly 'get' Elle back we first need a way to remove ze possessing influence from 'er. Let me see zis Mr. Aurelius and see if I can assist in restoration of 'is arm zat 'e might possibly assist in zis endeavor. You could best aid me by acting naturally, going about what you normally would do until furzer notice." he says cautiously.

              Violet Lear
              HP: 2

Violet let Wolf rant, hoping he'd give something away. Someone inside the school was a bit of a shock, even knowing that the same claim had been made before. She glared at him as he was taken away. There was nothing left to say. She fervently wished they'd never hear from him again.

When Jakob's mother arrived, Violet avoided making eye contact. Awkward didn't begin to describe how she felt. She gave Jakob a quick hug before he left. "Ring me when you get home."

Once everyone else was gone, Violet left with Doctor Fisher. She gave very short answers to all questions, begging fatigue. Back in her room, the last of her adrenaline faded and the enormity of what had happened started to settle in. She managed only a couple of sobs before collapsing in exhaustion.

Moments after he crested the rooftop, they were on their way. The initial minutes of the escape were clumsy, as Kas talked Dr. Bacon through the basics of flight and kept track of him, so he didn't venture past the area in which Kas's bestowed flight functioned. Thankfully, Otso had hours of practice under his belt at this point and was able to provide assistance himself.

The young german was relieved the mission had gone as well as it had, but he was concerned about retribution by the UUB on the locals, since Bacon kept bringing it up. It made sense. The despotic neos would be furious after this intrusion into their stronghold. Since they would want to direct that impotent fury somewhere, innocents would suffer. An even stronger motivation was simply reasserting their authority. The New Vindicators had embarrassed them and damaged the image of invincibility they'd crafted, which greatly increased the likelihood of a mass uprising against their rule. Should even a small uprising succeed in injuring or killing one of Basenji's elite cadre, the winds of revolution could blow strongly and the dictator was a were-dog...hardly the most deadly neo-sapien gift.

It was these ruminations that threatened to turn Kas's exultation at achieving their mission goal into bitter recriminations over not staying and fighting it out. Instead, he concentrated on committing to memory what he had learned about the UUB. Bluster, Skew, the Smoking Man, Udall and the girl who'd risen out of the ground. Certainly a greater force than he could overcome singlehanded, but hardly invincible. He was still curious as to Bluster's abilities. While his use of a firearm suggested his powers weren't offensive in nature, that hardly discounted them as formidable. Skew's powers weren't offensive in nature and he was a total pain in the ass.

The only thing he knew for certain was, he wasn't finished with the UUB.

By the time they landed back in Vienna, he was at the fraying edges of his endurance. He'd been airborne for far longer than he was used to and suffered injury in the process. All things considered it really wasn't surprising his landing in the courtyard of the school was...less than graceful.

On both knees on the lawn, he pulled off his helmet and let the cool air caress his face. Then he staggered to his feet and and stumbled off to his dorm room. Once inside, he stripped to his skivvies and crawled into bed. Laying on his back, he tiredly wondered if major crime and disasters would do him a favor and take a day off tomorrow. He could only hope.

Yawning, he rolled onto his side, fading into sleep only to twitch back awake as he put sharp, painful pressure on a circular bruise on his ribs. Grunting he shifted to a more comfortable position.

His last, mumbled words, before he passed out were; "I really hate being shot."

Gwyn was glad that Bacon had been saved, and swapped stories with Jack and Otso about what it had been like for him and Kas on the outside of the hospital. But when they arrived, there was something that he was very eager to discuss with the Headmaster.

Namely, how Skew had been arrested, tried, convicted, and irons, yet been walking around Uganda a few weeks later. Gwyn had an idea in mind, one that he didn't like...mostly because he thought he was right.

Lex lets out a long sigh of relief, "Remind me, we need to make promises that the next time that girl touches us we'll go and see each other and explain the situation."

He glances at Martin to get approval then opens the door to let Mira out.

"On hell of a day, huh?" He pauses then grins, "Man... I just ran like across half a planet. How #$(@ing cool is that?"

                      TOKYO (Martin)
A little more than a week had passed since Martin had made two trips to the Vienna school. He had arrived with Lex that morning, just ahead of Mira. They had come to use the Wreck Room, to see if Mira was truly out from under the control of Momoko's powers. Once they were certain she was safe, the headmistress began to profusely apologize as she shoved them out the door. "I'm sorry," she said, "but if we're going to get you all reinstated here, we need to at least seem as though we're adhering to their rules."

Mira insisted Lex move on, telling him she could take Martin to Tokyo. The two made some calls, and Tatjana and Viktor cut school to run around Vienna with them. When Martin and Mira met up again, they said their farewells, and returned to Tokyo.

Early into the next morning, Martin woke to a phone call from the headmistress, asking if he could come back. Quintessence appeared on the campus, taking Martin straight to the hospital Cleave had attacked not long ago. There were two boys--Mike Mitchell and an Austrian Neo-Sapien a few years his senior--who had been abducted by Crux.

Martin was fed the news: Crux was abducting Neo-Sapiens and sterilizing them in an effort to prevent them from ever having Neo-Sapien children. Mike and this other fellow had been castrated, and Martin's powers were the only solution anyone could think of to undo the damage these fiends had caused.

When it was all over, the usual round of thank yous were said, and then he was exiled once more to Tokyo.

For a few days, it was quiet, and he was allowed to work with the students. Peter, Momoko, Pyotr... there were several students there unable to control their powers. Svetlana's powers left her hairless and with blue skin--just like her mother, who served as the school secretary.

Amongst the seniors was a young woman, Lien Donghai, whose touch could cause a person to undergo a temporary evolution. Though she made people deadlier, using her powers left her weak and feeble. Heng and Nuo Lin unleashed a blast of kinetic energy whenever their skin was broken. Narendra Kosaraju was permanently trapped in the form of a strange, chimera-like creature. Simon Golubev's ability let him forge a sensory link with beasts, but when he used his power on a fly, and that fly was swatted, the psychic backlash put him into a coma for almost a week.

There were several students at the New Vindicators Academy of Asia who either had no control over their powers or wanted more, and since Martin had offered to help Peter, they all seemed to think he could help them.

He had gone to check his mail, and found a package waiting for him. Inside was a mobile phone. For the briefest of moments, hope soared in his heart: he hadn't heard from Rembrandt and Gwen since they'd left Vienna, and they hadn't answered him in the wake of the news concerning the auction.

Those hopes were dashed when he turned it on and found only a single number stored inside. Dialing it, it was Agent Dewhurst, the man he knew as Armin Armannperg, who answered. "Hello, Martin. This is Agent Dewhurst. Sorry about the cloak and dagger bit, but I needed to get you a secure line.

"I'm afraid your sister managed to elude us. I'm willing to bet she's headed east to meet up with Tallemaja. I'm going to see what I can find out from the Esper that your sister dropped off--maybe find a way to stop whatever they're up to. If you're interested, I'll brief you when I'm able..."

That had been three days ago, and he hadn't heard from Dewhurst since...

                      TOKYO (Lex)
"Man... I just ran like across half a planet. How #$(@ing cool is that?"

"Imagine flying," Mira boasted. "So, I know we're not allowed on the school grounds, but we can still enjoy Vienna, right? I'm going to call Viktor--see if he wants to cut class before I fly back to Tokyo. You guys should call Kirstie and Tatjana--get in some face time."

Martin was already texting his girlfriend when Lex explained that his was on an island a time zone or two away.

"So?" Mira asked. "You just told me how you ran across the planet. Go be with her. I can wear Martin back to Japan."

And with that, Lex was off: soon, he was in Iceland, calling Kirstie to find out where she was exactly. It was troublesome to navigate without Martin's help, but he eventually found it, and eventually found her.

A few hours later, Lex, Kirstie, and Kirstie's mother went to meet with the boy who posted about the Avalon Academy. His name was Benedikt Jónsson, and he was two years younger than the sophomores. He showed them pictures of his sister--Tindra, a pretty blonde with dimples and tilted eyes. "She would be turning seventeen next week," Benedikt said.

"Tindra inherited our mother's ability: she can... touch something--anything! A person, or a thing, or a place... and her power makes it where no one will come near it. It's not the coolest of powers. It's not like... being able to fly, or lift heavy things, or anything... There was talk about her going to that school in Vienna, but Tindra said she didn't want to go. She had a boyfriend here and was very close to our grandmother. Then, one day, two older girls showed up from this boarding school... Dad, mom, and Tindra all just immediately decided she should go. It was so strange."

Kirstie flashed Lex a knowing look. It sounded too much like what had happened with her own family: someone had controlled Benedikt's family's minds to coerce Tindra into enrolling at the Avalon Academy of Young Ladies.

Since enrolling, no one had heard from Tindra, and no one save Benedikt seemed to care. His parents stopped talking about her. They didn't appear at all troubled by their eldest child severing ties to them.

Benedikt told them everything he could and the trio excused themselves. "I wonder how many people Aunt Alice has done this to," Kirstie said.

"And why hasn't anyone else noticed?" asked her mother.

"Well, maybe the others are only children?" Kirstie thought on it as they walked to the car. "I mean, they probably didn't put the whammy on Benedikt because he has no say in the matter, so he becomes the only one who registers something strange has happened. Maybe the others didn't have anyone to notice?"

"Well, I think I should go back to the hotel and rest up," Kirstie's mother said, "give you two some time."

The two spent the morning in Iceland before Lex was forced to leave for Tokyo.

It had been uneventful ever since. No news about the Avalon Academy. No attacks on any city he'd visited. It was quiet, save for Gaspar's suspicion that Xun was evil and Svetlana's advances.

                      VIENNA (Everyone Else)
"In light of recent events," Newton said to the student body, "we're going to begin regularly training you all on how to react to a crisis. We will gather here in the Wreck Room, and a simulation will begin. Sometimes, this may be as simple as stopping an opponent. Other times, it may be rescuing people from a flash flood. There could even be scenarios where you find yourself on a street, and are forced to find and defuse an explosive device.

"Usually, you will not be alone. For the rest of the semester, you will each be put into teams of four designed to hopefully balance out everyone's skills and abilities. In the spirit of competition, points will be awarded based on your performances, and each team will be ranked.

                      "Without further adieu..."

Behind him, a board blinked into existence, displaying the roster of each team.

The last week had been difficult for Violet. Not so much the trauma or fear of being kidnapped but the lack of someone she felt comfortable talking to about it. Too many of her friends were elsewhere. Mike kept giving her accusatory looks and Rose was strangely silent when she was around. Jakob was very friendly but just text on her phone. She missed him but she didn't feel comfortable going out again so soon.

Violet look at her assignment curiously. She didn't know any of her assigned teammates well. She did know that Dag was the most senior of the group. Would that default him to leader? She walked slowly over to meet with her group. "Hey. I think we've got a good team right?"

Kas had spent the past week getting caught up on homework and researching what information was available on the assorted members of the UUB. Apparently there were some intrepid reporters who'd engaged in this sort of research before him, because he immediately ran into walls of redacted information. He was perplexed that Skew had been tried at the Hague and dumped into Pandora, before they'd encountered him in Uganda. Pandora was supposed to be inescapable...except two former inmates had escaped were currently running around Europe and neither had powers nearly as formidable as the teleporter. Perhaps Pandora wasn't as final a destination as advertised. If he was a detective of any skill he'd devote real effort to tracking the escapees down, but if the regular authorities couldn't...what chance did he have?

The backlog of school work meant he had less time to devote to patrolling Vienna...not that patrolling was actually effective as anything more than a visual deterrent to criminal activity. After a talk with his sisters, he came up with a workaround of sorts.

"The solution to your problem is simple Kasi." Gitta, his elder sister had said. "Since you cannot be visible as often..."

"You must be more visible when you are seen." Gudrun, his younger sister piped in.

When did they become so close they were finishing each other's sentences? "Could you elaborate?" He asked, not wanting to seem too impatient. They had apoint to make and apparently believed he was too thick-skulled to make the leap. They were going to lead him to it.

"Fly more slowly when you're patrolling.""Ja, and add a cape to your costume, so you're more easily seen."

He nodded at the suggestions. It made sense from a public relations standpoint, even if it did seem a little self-aggrandizing.

"Do not walk when it can be avoided. Flight at all times in public."

"Ja, ja...you aren't that tall, so floating...even a few inches off the ground will make you seem more imposing."

"And you should really think about a social media presence."

The end result? He had a cape. He felt a little silly wearing it, but the girls were right...people noticed. Not only that, but when he visited the children's ward at the hospital, it was a hit. Almost as much of a hit as clearing all the toys out of the play room and taking those patients who could tolerate the excitement and their parents on a Peter Pan style flight. Sure, it was in an enclosed room by necessity and not much could be done as far as aerial maneuvering, but treating these people to the freedom he took for granted so often was an absolute joy.

Getting Fey to play Tinkerbell cost him though. He was going to be cleaning her classroom for a month. Totally. Worth. It.

He was on the fence about the whole social media thing. His blindness made it a guarantee he'd have to outsource it and he wasn't certain he could trust his sisters not to embarrass him.

Then came the big meeting, with Newton announcing the students were being split into teams to practice disaster response. For just a moment he felt...cheated? Plagiarized? Something. The school had appropriated the concept of the Volunteers without even consulting him. It was childish he knew, but he had to squash a feeling that something special had been stolen from him.

Still, it wasn't like he was going to throw a tantrum over it. He wasn't going to...how did the Americans put it? Take his toys and go home. No. This was a good and necessary thing. Too often emergencies arose to find the Vindicators absent and the students unprepared. All things considered, he had to agree with the modification to the curriculum. Besides, the very first Volunteer, Juozas, was still on his team.

When he shook everyone's hand, he could tell by the tilt of Tantivy's head that she was contemplating saying something about the cape. He could hardly wait.

Gwyn smiled, sunglasses tucked into the neck of his t-shirt. Something like a simple teamwork exercise was a welcome change of pace from the sort of thing he'd been doing lately. Although the Case of the Vanished Jet still tugged at the back of his mind.

He looked to Matt, Beatrice, and Pirjo in turn, giving them all a warm smile, his eyes flickering with fire but warm for all that.

"Ok, let's see wot they throw at us, ya? Remember, we're a team, and we're probably gonna get scored for just that-working as a group, not a collection of loners with the same goal. That means no running off alone, and we listen to each other's schemes, ok?"

He didn't much know Matt, and Beatrice wasn't exactly Boudica, but if there was muscle needed, Felsic had that to spare. As Paladin would say "It'll be an experience, that's a fact."

Martin tried to explain to each new person that requested aid that he was good at figuring out rules in a scientific way through experimentation and Peter's power was especially suited to that kind of assistance. He made no promises with regards to a better degree of control for anyone but usually, (sometimes begrudgingly) he'd offer to help a student learn more about their abilities or even to help them think differently about their abilities.

For instance, for Momoko he talks about becoming associated with religious institutions who's members might need help in the vows they make, or marriage counselor. He'll ask around to see if someone will let her experiment touching them after they've made the promise of "I vow it will ever be my choice to uphold any previous promises I've made in my life." and, at a different time, "I promise to not succumb to supernatural mental influence." Other than that, he can't think of any other valid experiments and he'll warn that even those can be dangerous.

He'll actually shy away from being present when Pyotr experiments with his powers. Pheromone-induced rage was not to be taken lightly around a super sensitive sense of smell coupled with the ability to melt a face off. He will try to work with e molecules of the Vindicator suit to make them impervious to pheromone conduction and provide total coverage like a zentai suit to give Pyotr more options

Otherwise, possibly out of desperation, he'll point Piotyr to Momoko with the self-promise that he be able to control his abilities.

Others like the Lin twins he'll just ask probing questions like is it only external skin or if they bite their tongue is there an internal blast of force. It is only if they feel it? Etc. Just to get them to think about their abilities.

All in all he's in the role of scientist and life coach and cognitive re-framing therapist.

He does want to keep working with Peter. More and more tests until he's comfortable trying it with a person in his area to show he has enough control to avoid hurting people. Martin also asks if he would be willing to play oracle to some of Martin's questions regarding his past.

The week had pretty been quiet for Jack, and he was glad for the change of pace. He liked sleeping all night long and not fighting any of the growing assortment of nutcases the school seemed to attract and most of his down time was spent working on his various class assignments that had been needing to be done.

Jack met up the other three students, nodding to each one in turn. It wasn't a bad grouping in his opinion, each one of them had something to offer but their effectiveness could be screwed over by the simulation they'd get. "This prolly sounds stupid but why don't we go over what each of our powers are? Just to be sure, ya know?"

After a moment the American starts off. "I can alter my body to replicate the abilities of any animal I want."
