Re: Ghost Town: First Frights (IC)

    Gamemaster

Even despite the cacophony of howling from the wolf-men, the sound of wings catches Miss Titan's attention. Though the fog, silhouetted against the moon, a line of birdmen carrying humans fly further to the east. One is clutching what can only be the statue.

As Brimstone darts for one of the unconscious ritualists, every head swivels to track his movement. The distraction is long enough for the mystics to be caught off guard by Morningstar's attack, the cluster of four pinned together by the rocky protrusions as she rushes to the portal. Both heroes leap through the shrinking portal, Morningstar having to duck to pass through. Moments later, the portal fades away as it shrinks to nothingness.

The wolfen take the portal's closing as their signal to attack, and the wolf-men jump into violent action in a flurry of claws and fangs as they land around the heroes and begin a savage assault!

    OOC:
The portal has closed, the heroes are stranded! Everyone gets a hero point.

The wolves launch team attacks against the heroes, five per hero. And roll stupidly well.
25, 23, 23, 19, 11 against Miss Titan, 3+ total degrees of success on secondary checks, DC 27 Toughness check.
21, 25, 11, 24, 8 against Brimstone, 3+ total degrees of success on secondary checks, DC 27 Toughness check.
19, 21, 21, 26, 24 against Neutron, 3+ total degrees of success on secondary checks, DC 27 Toughness check.
26, 21, 24, 17, 19 against Morningstar, 3+ total degrees of success on secondary checks, DC 27 Toughness check.
Hitting Morningstar hurts, three wolven fail their saves against self inflicted punctures.

      Morningstar
      HP: 2 (-1)
      Status: Normal

Morningstar barely had time to register her new, eerie surroundings before her vision was abruptly filled with snapping jaws and mangy grey fur, claws raking against her armor in vain search of a weakness. Stepping back into a defensive pose, she crossed her arms in front of her face and countered their blows with attacks of her own almost instinctually. The already formiddable barbs covering her armor lashed out, striking the cryptids' arms, faces and chests. A few stumbled backwards and crumpled to the ground almost immediately, giving the remaining two a moment of hesitation. Taking advantage of the split-second gap in the assault, she took a step back and gave the ground a swift kick, the rocky earth thrusting upwards towards the pack of beastmen in response.

May as well stick with what worked.

      OOC: Toughness Save against DC27 Wolfen attack: 1D20+13 = [4]+13 = 17
Yeowch. Think I'm gonna spend a Hero Point to reroll that. Toughness Save against DC27 Wolfen attack (Reroll): 1D20+13 = [8]+13 = 21
Rolled below a 10, so I add +10 for a total of 31. No damage.

Then, she's going to use Wave of Spears again, aimed towards the two remaining wolfen in front of her, and angled to hopefully take out a few others to the side of them as well.

        Brimstone, the Devil Spawn
        Hero Points: 1.
Condition: Bruisedx2 [-2 TOU], Fatigued, Staggered.

He watched as the portal closed behind himself and Rose, where ever they were they were stuck, though he hoped the unconscious Hekawi mystic would be able to help them find a way back home. He could try to negotiate with the intelligence that the cultists had summoned, the demonic presence that had attached itself to his soul, but that could create ...

Even as he considered his options, the reality of their situation sank in, more than two dozen werewolves, lycans, whatever you preferred to call a six foot tall broad shouldered fanged clawed predator. They pack swarmed Brimstone and his allies, he knew that Neutron could transform into a being of pure energy, Rose with her armor and thorns could likely weather the storm, and while Ms. Titan was nigh invulnerable, something stirred within his breast as he watched the young woman get swarmed by the slavering wolf-men.

He bellowed trying to draw their attention even as he moved to intercept, "Get your paws off of her you damn dirty wolves!" They turned, almost in unison and swarmed Brimstone, burying him under more than a ton of furred, clawed, death. He felt teeth rip and tear at his charred skin and demonic flesh. He screamed, his voice feral and raw with anger, and as the swarm backed off, perhaps to regroup and resume their attack, he erupted into greenish flame, and something deep, something primal began to laugh.

OOC: Regen eliminates the Bruise I suffered two actions ago, however, due to my Surge last action, I am Fatigued since I am going to hold on to my Hero Point. As stated in OOC, I will be using Interpose on Ms Titan, meaning I have to eat two DC 27 TOU checks before taking my action. I'll roll those now see how the random roller likes me tonight; TOU Check DC 27, 1st use for Ms Titan [Interpose], 2nd for attacks on Brimstone: 1D20+13=[2]+13=15; 1D20+13=[10]+13=23. Yup, not looking good for Brimmy, 3 degrees Failure on that 1st one, Staggered & Bruised, 2nd is *only* 1 Degree failure for a 2nd Bruise. Yeouch!

I used my Leaping to move adjacent to Ms Titan to Interpose as a Free Action, then I became Staggered, I will use my single Std Action to switch Array slot to Hellfire Aura, meaning if these bad boys attack again, they will need to make DC 22 TOU checks vs Fire damage.

If Nunya B is cool with it, I will trigger my Temper complication for a HP, Brimstone's demon is about to come out, and he won't be fighting defensively nor be will be overly concerned with hostages or any such. If not let me know.

          HP: 3
          Condition: Normal.

'There are too many of them.' Neutron thought as he tried to soar higher but was quickly brought down by the wolfpack. He lost sight of the others amid the frenzied pile of fur and claws. There was no time to shift into his plasma energy form nor could he used wide spread attacks like his blinding light or Neutrino Burst as Neutron had no way of knowing how close the other team members are in proximity to him and such tactics would harm them as well as his savage foes. He hoped his force field still held up from the assault...

          Toughness Check vs DC 27: 1D20+13 = [16]+13 = 29
Neutron's Plasma Force Field is still activated so Toughness is 13 instead of 3. Otherwise he'll be hamburger.

            Miss Titan
            HP:1
            Condition: Normal

Miss Titan stands ready to defend herself as Brimstone bravely moves in front of her taunting the whole pack. Unfortunately, the wolfen are smart enough to understand him and savagely rush upon him like an ocean tide engulfing a rock. Stunned by Brim's valor and the ferocity of the beasts, it takes several seconds for Miss Titan to process the raging whirlwind of claws, teeth, fur, and demonic fury raging right beside her.

"Brim! No!" she cries eyes-wide in horror....but that look quickly turns to anger as she clenches both fists and steps forward into the fray.

"Get off him!", she snarls through clenched-teach, grunting with every punch she throws.

OOC: Ok, I'm gonna use Extra Effort to gain an alternate effect off my strength damage. Instead of using my strength for a rank 12 damage effect, I'm gonna power stunt to gain the following: STR-based damage 8, Multi-attack 6, Accurate 2. That comes out to exactly 24 points which is what I have invested in my STR. All that happens is that I switch my attack bonus and my damage effect. So now I have a +12 to attack and only a rank 8 damage effect. My multiattack 6 will further limit the damage effect to rank 6, but that can't be avoided.
So, I'll take -5 circumstance penalty for trying to attack 5 different wolfen.
Here are my rolls: Multiattack Rolls versus Wolfen: 1D20+7 = [10]+7 = 17
            1D20+7 = [4]+7 = 11
            1D20+7 = [20]+7 = 27
            1D20+7 = [6]+7 = 13
            1D20+7 = [18]+7 = 25
The Toughness check is DC 21.
I'll spend a hero point so that I'm not fatigued at the end of the round.

Re: Ghost Town: First Frights (IC)

This happens immediately after Neutron made his Toughness save (by 2 no less!). If its out of turn, let me know and i'll change it
              Neutron:
              HP: 3
              Condition: Normal

Neutron gritted his teeth as his force field had withstood against the wolfmen's strikes but only just barely. He could only maintain the field only for so long and he wasn't entirely sure if any of these beasts will get lucky and somehow break through the energized defenses around his body. One hit from those sharp claws could disembowel him. Neutron managed to steel himself as he tried to hold back the mob with random energy blasts fired here and there.

People were depending on him so he had to risk dropping his force field for a more effective method of protection: to finally shift his entire flesh and blood body into pure energy. An energy body which is completely immune to physical attacks no matter how savage or strong the opponent.

"IT'S TIME TO BE A HERO! WATCH THIS YOU FURBALLS!!!" he shouted as he had a bit of distance from his attackers as well as barely have enough time to become pure plasma:

                Brimstone, the Devil Spawn
                Hero Points: 2>0.
Condition: [Demon large & in charge] Bruisedx2 [-2 TOU], Fatigued, Staggered.

Even as he was mauled by tooth and claw, Gibson felt the presence that had attached itself to him years ago twist and writhe, slipping his bonds of will, rising to the surface. Normally, he would retreat, focus, and battle the demonic urges, but the skirmish surging around him prevented that. He laughed, he howled, he raged, as he felt himself pushed back into that inky blackness, subsumed by the otherworldly intelligence that the Yellow Sign had summoned to this world, his body a mere host for something vastly more powerful, more malevolent than anything he could imagine.

"Your heroic efforts were for naught," his voice was, wrong, otherworldly, hollow, ancient. "For I have escaped the prison you have wrought; these lupine terrors, these ne'er do wells; have released from prison Astaroth, a Duke of Hell!" With that, he drove forward from a single knee, his hand, wreathed in hellish green flame, plunging his forearm into the closest werewolf's slavering jaws, and then bringing his left fist down on it's neck forcing it's head back at a sickening angle. As it dropped slack, the demon ignored his own wounds and the black ichor now bubbling and boiling from the countless gashes across it's desiccated, charred flesh and leapt into the surging wave of foes, leaving a trail of carnage in his wake.

OOC: Yup, dice Hate me! Melee Attack vs Lupine Str 7; Aura 7 [DC 29 TOU vs Physical, Fire]: 1D20+6 =[4]+6=10 HP Re-roll. Melee Attack vs Lupine Str 7; Aura 7 [DC 29 TOU vs Physical, Fire] HP Re-roll: 1D20+6 =[20]+6=26. Talk about swing dice! CRIT! The target of my initial attack needs to make a DC 34 Physical, Fire TOU Check and I'll spend my 2nd HP, leaving me with zero for Heroic Inspiration, and gain Takedown Attack 1 for the duration of the round. Seeing as ten attacked me, I assume 10 are in melee range, I will Accurate attack for +4 Attack, -4 Effect, and Take 10 to attack the Minions. Giving me a 20 Attack Check, forcing a DC 25 Physical, Fire Toughness Check from each of them.

                And yes, I love Etrigan!

                  Gamemaster

The wave of jagged rock Morningstar unleashes catches almost half a dozen of the werewolves just as Miss Titan's punches knock a pair of cryptids off their feet. Then Brimstone bellows and strikes the first wolf.
In the face of hell itself, the remaining handful of wolfen begin to scatter with panicked yelps, sprinting off back to the treeline as fast as their legs can carry them. The farmers likewise begin to flee from Brimstone, one managing to articulate a cry of "Satan!" as the others scream in wordless terror.

                  OOC:
Wolfen save for half against Wave of Spears: 13, 9, 17, 21, 17, 13., one pass. TOU saves, only the one who saved for half passes
Miss Titan hits two, they get 20 and 24, one drops.
                  Brimstone drops ten
The remaining five wolfen are running. If anyone feels like chasing, they're only Speed 3.
The farmers are running. They're mundane people with Speed 0, so they're not even at the treeline yet.
                  Combat has ended.

                    Neutron:
                    HP: 3
                    Condition: Normal

Even in his plasma body, Neutron felt like throwing up once he saw the gory devastation caused by Brim during the aftermath of the battle. He didn't waste pity on these merciless feral creatures but neither did Neutron particularly enjoyed it. The surviving wolfmen had fled and there was little point in going after them.

It certainly did not help matters any that the civilians had reacted in total fear, especially toward Brimstone. It was completely understandable. After all, Neutron and the others had suddenly appeared out of a glowing portal only minutes before and given that Brim was acting as demonic in deed as well as looks, who can honestly blame these people for thinking they were invaded by a group of strangely dressed devils from the very pits of Hell itself.

Neutron wanted to change back to normal and to assure the people they meant no harm but there was one unpleasant thing to do first.

Neutron knew full well from bitter experience that Brimstone sometimes had...episodes like this before when he lost all self control and was acting like Tim Curry's Darkness character from that awful movie, Legend.

"Hey, Brim." he said carefully though in a reasonable tone and walked slowly toward Brimstone; all the while remaining in energy form. He really didn't want to fight his own teammate, not after barely surviving a previous battle but he did not know how long Brim will stay in this state until he regained control nor was Neutron willing to take the chance, not when innocent bystanders are at risk. "You're still in there, right buddy? The fight is over and you won. Just hit the reset switch inside your mind and please calm down."

Neutron stopped about a half dozen feet away from the Devil Spawn and called out to Miss Titan and Morningstar.

"Tee, 'Star! Brim isn't "himself" right now. Be prepared for anything if this gets ugly."

As the wolfen and farmers flee back into the forest, the situation seems relatively calm. The key word being "relative", she thought.

Heather backs away slowly from Brimstone.

It had always been situations like this that had kept Miss Titan from totally trusting Brim. Of course, she'd never tell him that. He had told her about the struggle going on between himself and that "demon from the pit" as she called it. Still, there was always thoughts in the back of her mind. Thoughts that she kept suppressed the vast majority of the time. But she was human and sometimes she thought of the absolute worst scenarios. Please God, don't let him lose control at the wrong time...especially if...if there are children around.

"Brim?", she says meekly. "It's me...Heather."

She waits a moment to gauge Brimstone's reaction.

Shooting Morningstar and Neutron a sideways glance, she whispers, "I saw those things fly off to the east with the statue. I'd like to go after them now before they get too far. But Brim's in no condition to move right now."

Miss Titan pauses a moment and then let's out a sigh as she realizes that she'll just have to be patient and wait.
