yeah, after posting that, Kenseido's Maven character would've been an option, having spent years lost in space

I'll just stick with Guardian. Besides, it's actually been a while since I've played a character with little-to-no angst, so this'll be rather refreshing for me.
added bonus, nobody else has applied for the brick position yet

Looks fine. One thing not necessary for that, but that I should note, is that while this is Earth's first civilian interplanetary flight, Earth does have a liaison to the Lor Republic Senate in Green Lantern Kinon Black.

Paulo, if you need a reason to go to space just go with "found the symbiote in a glowing meteor that fell, presumably, from space."

I'm looking for heroic types because I want people that won't abuse the stones. Temptation to use them is one thing. Having the sole mission of the character be to get them and use them is kinda a different thing.

            BACKGROUND

Captain Liam Fortinbras, was born the third son of an influential mercantile family during an unseasonably warm English winter in 1695. He had a keen mind for sailing and from a young age, sought to prove himself among the men of the Royal Navy. Upon completing his obligations to the crown he sought other ways to be of use to both his family and England - acquiring an armed merchantman and a steadfast crew, Captain Fortinbras was given a mandate to hunt Spanish galleons in the Caribbean as one of the first Privateers. His skill in combat, and the loyalty he engendered in his crew lead to Liam becoming one of the most prominent Privateers of the era. All attempts by the Spanish and Portuguese to capture him failed - and he began hunting enemies of the crown - pirates, rival nations, fleeing criminals - out of a sense of patriotism. To all accounts, Captain Fortinbras was an honorable man - bound by maritime law and espousing the civility of a gentleman.

His careers was cut short not by a pirate's blade, but something far stranger - Hot on the heels of the deadly pirate, Laurens de Graaf, Liam gave chase deep into the waters of the Bermuda Triangle. While traversing the dangerous seas - a deadly storm kicked up. He was forced to give up chase and focus on survival. But even with his expertise and his crew giving it their all - his ship was dashed upon sinister rocks hidden just below the water. He prepared to go down with his ship. He told his men that 'it had been his honour to serve' with them, he had the ship's chaplain give final rites - when suddenly a bright green glow split the skies above. Captain Fortinbras was never a religious man, but as the wreckage of his ship and the remnants of his crew were drawn up into the sky - his immediate thought was that God was bringing him and his men 'home'.

That vain hope was dashed as a giant, alien craft swallowed his crew and himself into a nightmare of the biological and the mechanical merged together. He never learned the names of the species that enslaved his crew. They did not communicate with words. To protect the investment in their 'workers' the creatures inoculated Captain Fortinbras and the others against cellular death - halting the aging process and guaranteeing that Fortinbras and his crew would be able to toil for their alien overlords forever, barring accident, foul play, or disease.

Work, Liam did. For several decades he toiled in mines and menial tasks, under the harsh rule of his masters. Even the smallest signs of resistance or disobedience were punished harshly. He was scarred, his right eye was plucked from his skull when he dared to stare 'too long' at one of his taskmasters. But Liam was a cunning man, and in time, he learned the patterns of his masters, well enough that he set into motion a plan that led to a full on revolt, not just for his surviving men, but for several alien species that the Slavers took. It was a violent coup, and one that led to Liam commandeering one of the alien's crafts. Once in charge of the armed starship, which he would go on to name after his first ship, The Fairwind Endeavour, he hunted the Slavers, destroying them and liberating those they had captured. He offered those that wished a place among his crew - and those that didn't, he ferried back to their homes - if they were able to give him proper coordinates.

Captain Fortinbras, in command of the Fairwind Endeavour, attempted to return to Earth, only to realize that several hundred years had passed. While he was immutable, the world he had known had changed. There was no going back. Taking to the aether, he resolved continue on as he had lived his life before, only this time, among the stars. He hunted multiple galaxies' dangerous criminals, put an end to slavery rings wherever he found them and fought against oppressive intergalactic regimes - cutting supply lines and turning tides where he saw fit to intercede. Eventually the Lor Republic recognized Captain Fortinbras and the crew of the Fairwind Endeavour's efforts - "The Void Fox," was a privateer once again.

As a 'human' and one of the first that the Lor Republic has encountered, of course Fortinbras would be asked to be on hand to ensure that the first commercial flight from Earth into the beyond goes smoothly. Truth be told, he doesn't really feel all that human anymore. He's been around for a long time. Seen countless worlds. But, even so, he feels a sense of pride watching as Earth joins the world that he had been thrown into so many years ago. In that light, he considers it a privilege to have been selected for what could prove to be an occasion to be marked.

Ah I get your point now. Yes you are right, I'll tweak the background to address that.

Thanks. Will fix. For some reason it seemed like it was the kind of character he'd submit and that got stuck in my head for some reason. I even double checked it as some point before I put it in...

Also, at some point Payback must meet Ravage.

Re: Crinoverse: Challengers of the Infinite [Recruiting]

Not really well-versed in the Crinoverse, so just sort of stuck with standard but not terribly specific Freedom City/Emerald City setting stuff.

                    Biographical Information
Name/Codename: Maxwell Minchin / MinMax (formerly)
                    Gender/Age: Male/24
                    Ethnicity/Nationality: Caucasian/American
                    Eyes/Hair: Brown/Brown
Height/Weight: 6'0", 200 lbs. (though this varies wildly)

                    BACKGROUND
Maxwell Minchin was born the youngest son of a single mother living in northern Montana. He never knew much about his father, save that based on his mother's other choices in male company (including the father's of his three half-siblings), the man was probably a walking garbage fire of one kind or another. As it turned out, he was also probably a mutant, as when puberty came knocking at Max's door, it had bigger surprises in store for him than it had any of his half-brothers.

At fourteen, Max discovered he possessed the ability to vastly increase or decrease his size and mass practically at will, shrinking down small enough to squeeze through the little cracks in the school gymnasium's wall or so ridiculously big as to be able to punt off the tip-top of the town's water tower; the later of which was probably not the best idea of his young life. Not long after discovering his powers, Maxwell's mother was approached individuals representing a school for special children like Max in far off Emerald City, Hope Prep. Their sales pitch was very good (not that it really needed to be) and thus young Max found himself boarded off to the West Coast for the next few years to attend what he mockingly jabbed as being "super school".

Much to Max's surprise he quickly found he actually loved his new abode. He was more popular there than he had been in Montana and he even managed to land himself a girlfriend, Aylari, a pretty alien telepath cheerleader (a string of words which Max still finds amazing was ever an actual thing that existed). Aylari was somewhat of the queen bee of the couple's social circle and, inspired by other emerging teen hero groups, she asked Max and several of their mutual friends to join her in forming their own team during Junior year. Max agreed and became the new team's resident infiltrator and strong man, calling himself MinMax.

Initially, Aylari and Max's little band of young heroes had an okay run of things, stopping minor petty crimes and aiding in a few semi-serious near disasters, but they were ultimately unsupervised and under-prepared, and the outcome of that was practically inevitable. While attempting to respond to a major situation in downtown Emerald City, the group of young wannabes ran afoul of the machinations of Hades, and things escalated rather quickly. Aylari was taken out of commission first, severing the groups line of communication and almost immediately thereafter in a desperate attempt to save one of his other friends from being ripped apart by an enemy bruiser, Max overestimated his own comparative strength, which resulted in his massive form being hurled through air and impaled clean through the chest upon a nearby building. Max lost consciousness and shrank down almost immediately. Were it not for the fact that the responding adult heroes included an extremely competent healer, in the form of Dragoneye, Max very well should have died and he wasn't even the most severely wounded of his group. Understandably, Max's so-called team was summarily disbanded after this unsanctioned debacle.

Upon learning of what happened, Max's mother pulled him out of Hope Prep and with the help of his equally concerned siblings, made him promise to give up the activities and superheroic aspirations that had nearly gotten him killed. Thus, after returning home to Montana, Max finished out his senior year in the same single building campus he'd attended junior high at years before, and after graduating he went to attend a local state college, swiftly getting a degree in physical therapy before returning to teach gym at that very same school as well. Over the years, while never really returning to the vigilante pursuit of super-villains or fighting crime in a snazzy costume, Max also continued to quietly do what he could, when he could in the much quieter community of his home town. He also stayed in touch with Aylari, as friends, largely through her telepathic communications. Her stay on Earth as a sort of interplanetary exchange student had regrettably been cut short by what happened with their group.

Recently, Aylari informed Max that she'd become engaged to her long term boyfriend in the Lor Republic and made an effort to invite all her friends from her days on Earth, many of whom had non-civilian means of traversing the stars. Max, of course, said he couldn't possibly come to the wedding, as unlike some of their other old friends, he didn't have his own spaceship or interplanetary teleporter or whatever to just fire up, but Aylari countered that Earth was in fact starting civilian flights into the Lor Republic and that she could arrange to get him a seat on the maiden voyage. With little else to argue, Max arranged to take his vacation days to attend the wedding and reunite with his old friends... apparently in outer-space. Admittedly the novelty of it made him even more nostalgic for the all the other super-powered weirdness that had filled his high school years.

                    DEFENSES:
                    Dodge 10, Parry 10, Toughness 10 (5 w/o Defensive Roll), Fort 10, Will 10

                    Attributes 40 + Skills 25 (50 ranks) + Advantages 20 + Powers 40 + Defenses 25 = 150/150

                    COMPLICATIONS
Accident: While well trained and versed in his powers, Max hasn't really used them to their full extent in several years, and thus he's a bit rusty and liable to make missteps and mistakes with them.
Motivation - Doing Good: Despite having formally given up superheroics at the request of his mother and siblings after his near-death, over the years Max has still found occassion to step in to help others, its just who he is.
Motivation - Thrills/Fun: While more mature than his days as a wannabe teenaged super, it'd be a stretch to say Max is no longer a thrill and fun-seeking idiot.
Quirk - Malleable Mind: Growing up to his normal maximum size (and sometimes beyond) has noticable deteorating effects on Max's thought processes. Not only is he more susceptible to outside influences (due to a reduced Will resistance), he also tends to think less clearly and make poorer decisions the bigger he gets and the longer he stays that way.
Phobia - Being Seen Topless: Max has fairly disturbing scar tissue across almost the entirety of his upper body from having been impaled through a building as a teenager. They are not handsome or manly scars in his opinion, and he has a serious mental hang-up about other people seeing them.
Relationship: Max is still very close friends with his former teammate and ex-girlfriend, Aylira, a fairly strong Lor Mentat. Though her exchange to Earth ended with their team's disbandment, the two have remained the equivalent of telepathic penpals for years.
Responsibility: Maxwell is a high school gym teacher at a school in northern Montana, though he is presently on vacation to attend an ex-girlfriends wedding and potentially reunite with some old schoolmates, eventually he does have a day job to get back to.

that almost exactly fits with things that actually happened in the Crinoverse a few years back, right down to an all-hands-on-deck Crisis where Ares was an active participant.

Seriously? I'm not at all exaggerating about knowing NOTHING about the setting.

                          yep

                          Super-school? Hope Prep

the event that nearly killed MinMax? the final adventure of Crinoverse: Avengers, where our heroes tried to stop Hades and his faction of Olympian gods from overthrowing Zeus (only for Hades to be betrayed by the real archvillain of the series)

hero who healed Minmax? probably Dragoneye of the Emerald City Sentinels, as my character in Avengers was normally the go-to guy for such miraculous healing, but had been very bust that adventure and had come down with a case of dead

At the very least I assume the time frame doesn't line up though, right? Max's history implies the event he almost died in was like 5-6 years ago.

The Crinoverse moves in real time, so the Adventure in question was in early 2013, just shy of 5 years ago
