    GOING ROGUE: Prologue

    Bay City modern day

In a mansion just outside Bay City set up in the areas Santa Cruz mountains a handsome man dressed impeccable and escorted by a young Chinese woman similarly dressed tours the newly completed manor. The pair walk through the numerous rooms each set up in a Spartan fashion for one of five individuals to reside in as they desired and to decorate to their tastes. As they tour further they see other amenities including the pool with its small rock formations and waterfalls, a backyard view that extends out to the oceans of the pacific and the Monterey bay, and the redwood trees all around.

Deeper inside they explore a sub basement reinforced to military bunker level strength with a laboratory and a computer, and a room that can best be described as a cross between library and a mages tower. Beneath that level a wide football field sized wreck room sits, and below that the manors primary power source a donated arc reactor.

The man boggles momentarily that he was allowed to receive these gifts as the manor even for his considerable wealth would have been exorbitantly expensive but the trio of women that ran Oracle Incorporated had been shockingly generous. He had been half tempted to sweep for bugs and other monitoring devices but then had laughed at the thought drawing an odd look from the young woman who accompanied him nearly everywhere he went. IF those 3 wanted to spy on him, no mundane tech would be needed, nor would any powers or knowledge he possessed be enough. He enjoyed a small chuckle at his cleverness in figuring out the secret of that trio, an amazing gift they had, and it gave rise to an amazing power to shape world events.

And events were coming, oh such events as would shake the world to tis foundations. As the pair paused at the manors computer room where its state of the art system hummed quietly the system recognized them both and its friendly AI asked them if it could offer assistance. The gentleman brought up a series of screens showing dark figures moving in shadows far away on a group of islands rarely visited by civilized men.

The young woman at his side narrowed her eyes dangerously at the images, and he knew that if looks could kill those on the screen would be laying dead that moment.

"Don't worry,." he spoke consolingly "You will get your chance at them very soon."

She considered him carefully but made no reply beyond a nod of acceptance.

turning off the screen and returning to the manors upper 2 floors the man and woman passed the manors library and stepped out its front doors into the large front lawn. The walls that separated the property from the rest of the area to keep nosey viewers out were lined with security precautions for intruders not deterred by walls and no trespassing signs.

Nodding at this the man turned to the young woman well my dear, shall we begin?

She nodded and the two turned to reenter the mansion both knowing that things were about to get very interesting.

    Opening salvo about to begin

pms on their way shortly then opening posts to follow.

      Oaf

One of the safest places for a near 8 foot metahuman in the world is Sanctuary. Once an island fortress of the Usurper now ironically used to protect one of his weapons of mass destruction. The staff have been unfailingly polite and professional, and even Lucy has gotten a job working for them so she can be nearby. Its on this beautiful tropical paradise that Oaf finds someone waiting for him in his room.

A young woman of Asian descent who offers him a letter. with instructions to give it to someone he trusts. When he gave it to Lucy she explained it was someone asking for his help. She was worried thought that it meant he might have to fight again.

Still if he wanted to find out more he would have to make the trip to the location in question. Would he do so?

        Uplift

Ever since the recent assassination attempt you've been a bit jumpy. Almost too aware of your surroundings, those red ninja had been all too eager to close ranks with you and it was everything you could do to keep their poisoned blades off you.

So when a young woman appears in your lab having bypassed your security--neat trick there--you were understandably miffed. She however assured you in her own quiet way that had she wanted you dead you'd already be a corpse.

        Assuring that thought.

Still she merely offered you a letter of introduction and an intriguing offer. a meeting with some other like minded individuals that would prove most interesting.

        Will you go?

For Susan the last couple months have been hectic. Smashing AIM operations was turning into a hassle as one they were getting better at setting traps, and worse they were learning ways to counter her tech. Add in that she was caught right in the middle of Los Angeles when VIPER suddenly launched some insane invasion of the US and the last week alone has been a pain in the tuckus.

Which was why the email sent directing her to a meeting with some ""interesting people"" on a certain date was an intriguing consideration. Was it a trap by VIPER, AIM? was it some new players on the block?

          Will she attend the meeting?

Sitting on a couch in the avengers compound in Los Angeles Mace is avoiding looking into the eyes of the Avengers resident telepath. Despite knowing that she was the reason he had regained his sanity after what ever bizarre process it was that had given him his powers and driven him nearly completely mad in the process. Still it was some what uncomfortable being looked at by a woman who could read him like a Dick, Jane and Spot book--WITHOUT the telepathy much less with it-and try and keep his composure.

Used to being able to sweet talk or grift his way out of most situations it was unsettling to meet someone capable of seeing through any lie or face he could put on with minimal effort. Even more unsettling when she was just as adept as he was at talking in circles or drawing information out of him.

Still in spite of all that, he had to admit he was glad for these sessions, they had really helped him recover and focus himself.

"So what's on your mind Mace?" she asks with no small irony given her abilities and the fact that in this case his thoughts are exactly closed on the matter of the strange letter he had received asking him to meet a group of like minded individuals.

The realm of shadow in which Darkholme resided was as always dark and grim though not without a certain elegance and ascetic beauty of its own. What made today interesting was the visitor he had received.

A young woman had entered his realm via a well performed ritual by someone with some solid magical knowledge. She had delivered a letter requesting a meeting with some like midned individuals at a certain time and place. Something that had peeked his curiosity. Even if only to meet the caster of the ritual.

Are you thinking of going? darkholmes voice in his mind ear everywhere asked casually

Mace looks at Savant out of habit, then quickly moves his eyes away from her face. And then again from her chest. Then he just turns his head to the carpet.

Sorry, he thinks. If she was reading his thoughts, she definitely knew why.

"Like minded individuals? Seems very subjective. And how much do they know? Who do they expect to show up?" As Flux, Mace had answered similar "summons" with Kelly only to hear some megalomaniac or another spout on about how the world will be better blah, blah, blah. The last thing he wanted to do now was show up to a supervillain gathering.

On a coast on the island wher Sanctuary is places stood a giant of a man in deep thought
A pretty lady in Oafs room, does that means she likes Oaf? Oaf did not know her so maybe she was only there to give letter to Oaf. Oaf likes helping. Oaf needs helping. After what master made Oaf do, Oaf must make up in any way Oaf can.
Lucy afraid of Oaf having to fight. Oaf have no problem fighting. Oaf is big and strong. Not like Lucy. Lucy kind and sweet. Not like Oaf. Oaf must go to protect Lucy, even if it makes Lucy sad.
Oaf hopes they be nice like Lucy. Oaf hopes they be nothing like master.

With that the giant turned around and walked back to the compound. It was nearly dinner time and all his thinking had made him hungry

Uplift spent the next few hours after his visitor arrived and delivered her message upgrading his security system. Next person who managed to sneak through like that was going to be in for an unpleasant surprise. He had pondered the letter; 'Like minded individuals' she and her letter had both said and at least she wasn't wearing red, unlike his last encounter with martial artists.

He looked over at his new harness that he had been working on. Last time out, those ninjas had caught him by surprise and carrying all his gadgets separately had almost got him killed. Combining them into something new meant that at least it would be more difficult to recognise him. Indeed, the terms of his pardon meant that the Mechanic could no longer operate in the US, but that didn't mean he couldn't work elsewhere, especially in somewhere like Sanctuary.

He breathed deeply, deciding he was going to the meeting. However, if this was a trap, he had a few new tricks up his sleeve that they wouldn't be expecting.

                      Sebastian Blackwood
HP: 1 Cond: Curiouser and Curiouser...

Sitting in the drawing room, staring at the blazing fire in the ornate fireplace as he leaned back in the tall, soft backrest of his fireplace-side chair, Sebastian Blackwood pursed his lips, fingers settling into an almost natural tent. His gaze was upon the fire, though it had recently been on the letter that had been rather curiously delivered to his home here. Here, in Darkholme.

No one ever came to Darkholme. Dimensional physics screwed things up, and the entire dimension was basically his playground. That meant something. First, there was someone who was good enough to establish a ritual circle to transport young woman here and back without actually having been here before (Darkholme would have recognized the signature otherwise). Secondly, that his hidden home wasn't so secret anymore, which, while not too troublesome, spoke to the possible end to his so-treasured privacy. Third, the letter discussed a meeting of like minded individuals, which could mean a great deal many different things. Mostly Sebastian worried it was one of those costumed villains that people would see on TV, fighting the heroes as they tried to accomplish whatever their goals were. Villain teams worked well in theory, but from what Sebastian could tell, they actually appeared almost doomed to fail. Besides, Sebastian wasn't interested in joining any group of such, given how he was trying to find a more... fitting path for himself. Darkholme didn't seem to mind, but there appeared to be concern in the genius loci's tone. Anyone with enough knowledge to open a portal here was worth... further consideration.

Are you thinking of going? darkholmes voice in his mind ear everywhere asked casually
"Yes." Sebastian said plainly. Fingers relaxing from the tent, the young man stood, suit immaculate and tie straight, as he stared into the fire. "I'm curious what the writer means by a meeting of like-minded individuals. I grant you, it's not much to go on, but..."

You are unsure if it is a trap.

"Well, that too." Sebastian waved his hand in the air, shaking the thought away. He was talking to the fire now. Honestly, if Darkholme wasn't manifesting a form to interact with, Sebastian almost never bothered with feeling silly, talking to no one. He was used to it by now. "I was actually curious as to, well the why."

But you are still thinking of going. Darkholme stated. It was phrased like a question, but the way that Darkholme had said it made it clear - it was a statement. He knew Sebastian very well.

"Yes." Sebastian gave the flames a small smile. "Yes I am."

Susan glowered at the email, if it was bait she was offended. Her fingers danced across the keyboard, digital tracking the source and after a couple minutes delegating the task to a bot net. Her gaze moved across the scattered wreckage of the safehouse, parts from the last weeks "heroics", sabotage and fleeing scattered the room, her current weapons load out burnt through far faster than she had anticipated, and her current situation, limited the repairs she could do.

"How do they, keep this up." She snapped to no-one, scattering ruined equipment across in frusration. She was tired and angry she had slept a couple of hours in as many days. She checked computer to check progress and start getting some answers.

After downing a prodigious meal even by the standards of Sanctuary our Oaf was free to indulge in some quality play time. Some impromptu arm wrestling with some of the stronger guests, the Abomination was a soar loser, but Tower from the Masters of Fortune, and Sasquatch from Alpha Flight both were good sports. After dinner and a talk with Lucy she encouraged you to explore this new opportunity, all she added to remember was that you remember to only fight to protect people.

That's what good people did she said while pointing to Sasquatch or the visiting Champions, or someone like Flag the American hero who she pointed out on the television saving people lives.

"its in fighting to protect people that we don't know that we become good people." she offered helpfully.
