  • What is Hero Lab?

This thread is intended as a starting point for anyone looking at this forum, and wondering "Hey, what exactly is Hero Lab?"

Hero Lab allows you to create, manage, and advance player characters and NPCs for Mutants & Masterminds Third Edition and Second Edition.

As well as creating new heroes (including picking abilities, skills, feats, powers and equipment), Hero Lab allows you to print heroes in a variety of formats, access pre-created stock NPCs, track additional power points added through experience, track your hero on an “electronic character sheet” during play, and for GMs manage encounters and combats between the players and their opponents.

A picture tells a thousand words, so here are a couple of screenshots showing how Hero Lab displays the ability scores and powers of the Battlesuit archetype from the core rules:

That sounds pretty swell! Where can I find out more about Hero Lab?

We published four designer diaries on the web site about Hero Lab. You can find them here:

Design Journal #1 - Power Creation and Editing
Design Journal #2 - Printed Output
Design Journal #3 - GM Support
    Design Journal #4 - Ultimate Power & Mastermind's Manual

You can also check out the Hero Lab web site for more information.

Great! Where do I get it, and how much does it cost?

You can buy Hero Lab at your friendly local game store, or on our website here. It costs $29.99 to buy Hero Lab for either M&M third edition or M&M second edition. If you already have a Hero Lab license, adding either edition costs $20.

For second edition, you can purchase the Ultimate Power & Mastermind's Manual addon here. This is an upgrade that requires you to own Hero Lab for Mutants & Masterminds Second Edition, and costs an additional $19.99.

I have other questions about Hero Lab!

Great! If they're Mutants & Masterminds related, post them in this forum, or in the M&M forum on our support web site. If you have general Hero Lab questions, you can post them in our general Hero Lab forum.

    Happy gaming!

(Please don't post in this thread - it should just stay stickied at the top of the forum to point new people to the right place.)
