  • General power cost calculation bug?

    If you have a power with partial ranks of flaws (flight, for instance, where your top two ranks require concentration and are distracting), Hero Lab substantially under-charges for the non flawed ranks if the flawed ranks cost less than 1 per rank. For instance, 12 ranks of flight with 2 of those ranks suffering a -2 flaw calculates the cost as 15PP rather than 21PP, when just 10 ranks unflawed should cost 20pp. (I realize it would be substantially more effective to build as an alternate effect).

    That does sound like quite the bug. I can try to look into tonight when I get back home. I assume that you have it set up as Flight 12 with two ranks of each of those flaws? Oh, and is this 2E or 3E?

    Meanwhile, I recommend submitting it via the Bugzilla tracker so that they have it in their system.

      Huh. Tested it myself and yeah, it's a bug that applies any time the cost goes below 1 pp / rank and only partial ranks are applied. Applying a -2 Flaw does the same thing.

        Even though the Flaws are applied to two ranks, the calculation in Hero Lab is:

        1/2 x 12ranks + 10 = 16

        So I'm assuming it applies the -2 flaw to all the ranks (which would make the cost 1/2 point per rank) and then it adds back the other ranks not Flawed.

        Definitely should be reported.

          I reported it with a breakdown of the math. The problem seems to be in calculating the number of points to "add back" at the end. I'm honestly not 100% certain why they're doing it the way they are, but it might be a legacy thing.
