  • Recolouring a couple of characters - anyone able to help?

Unless my memory has gone completely doolally someone on this forum used to offer to recolour characters? I've a couple of bits of art I want to put into national colours and my photoshop skills aren't that great. Anyone able to assist (or remember the thread)? Happy to discuss payment if able to assist and can do a good job?

I seem to remember something like that, but so far all I've found is a thread on the old board where someone requested it and someone else obliged. I might be able to help. I'm a GIMP hobbyist.

I think I could be able to assist you! :-)
You can take a look at my thread to see if my photoshop coloring skills are up to your taste: here

Thanks for the offers both of you and yes imported_etrigan, I really like your artwork.

What I have is an adapted picture of Hammer that I wanted to change the colour of her costume into Ukrainian national colours (blue and yellow) - what's the easiest way to get the jpg to you and do either of you charge?

        Thanks for replying.

I'm willing to take a stab at it for free, although I cannot guarantee the results.

I'm creating an adventure where my players meet the Ukrayina Zakhysnyky (Ukraine Defenders) one of whom is Molotok (Hammer) the meta-human daughter of the soviet Hammer now returned to Ukraine. What I would like is to change the costume into the blue and gold colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Ideally the red and black would be blue and the boots and trim etc. would remain as is. The left glove should also be yellow. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. My Photoshop skills just doesn't get how to alter the various shading nuances properly...

Would you still be wanting different shades of blue on either side?

Here's a partial re-color that assumes you do want division.

Not really, though shading would obviously account for part of this. I was hoping to keep it to variations of the two colours only rather than two completely different shades of blue and yellow. Thanks though for trying. I would imagine the cloak and glove would be the hardest to do. Never figured how to recolour shading properly.

Do you want a lighter blue on the uniform? And what color do you want the inside of the cape? If I just colorize it as-is with the current levels, it blends in with the costume.

That's brilliant, thank you. Any chance you could do the cloak in the earlier lighter blue you used in the previous copy (hadn't really thought about the need to differentiate it from the body) - fantastic... Do you want to message me with an email address so I can offer you something for your trouble as a token thank you?

Really appreciate this, again a very sincere thank you.

You needn't worry. It's literally something that I knocked together over my lunchbreak. Which, unfortunately, was a few hours ago, so I won't be able to put more work in this for a bit.

Incidentally, GIMP makes this a relative breeze a good bit of the time. All that I did was use the free-select tool (the "lasso") to select the parts of the uniform and then use the Colorize command on them, which essentially turns the selected portion into greyscale and then applies a color. Getting the two tones to match up was a matter of adjusting lightness and contrast while using the same hue. When you're converting areas of pretty solid color, it's easy as pie. If you're doing it more selectively, it turns into a matter of finding the easiest way to change the colors you're working with. Also, the one yellow glove currently comes out a little bit non-outlined due to the issues of trying to change black into a color, but I may yet be able to fix that tonight.

I've obtain pretty much the same result in Photoshop by converting the image into grayscale and adding a color layer (15 min work):

I loved both versions - a very sincere thank you to both of you. you both did a fantastic job and this is exactly as I hoped it would come out.

Hope you will not mind if I come back again if I have a similar issue in future? (Either that or explain how you add a colour layer?) Happy to donate something as a thank you to both of you (or to a charity) - this isn't about how long it took, its about the skills and support both of you showed.

                            Really appreciative...
