  • DC ADVENTURES Hero's Handbook useful if I have the Hero's Handbook ?

    Hello,

I have the Hero's Handbook Deluxe Edition. If I want to GM in the DC universe, is the DC ADVENTURES Hero's Handbook useful for me since the rules are the same ?

It has a chapter on the DC Universe complete with stats for some of the characters, but you might be better off investing the money into the Heroes and Villains books, which have more builds.

Agreed. The DCA book was actually published first, and the Deluxe Handbook fixes some of the rules errata from that printing. The DC characters, artwork and world data are very nice in the DCA book, but are much more detailed in the Heroes & Villains volumes as well as the DC Universe book.

I have the regular and Deluxe Handbook myself and like having both available for players to reference, so that might be a consideration, but unless you're a completionist who wants the whole set, there's no real need to get the first DCA book if you have the Deluxe Handbook and the other three.

You don't need the first DC Adventures book if you already have the Hero's Handbook unless you are a collector and want the whole DC set. It doesn't provide anything that the Heroes Handbook doesn't have, except for some DC stats. All of those stats are also in the Heroes and Villains books. For a DC game, get both Heroes and Villains books, and the DC Universe sourcebook and you are set.

I do find it nice as the examples for various feats and powers reference actual existing powers. It's much easier to understand the Fearless Feat/ Advantage when it's applied to Hal Jordan as opposed to Emerald City's The Rook.
