Charlie: Strong Girl

Charlie rolls out of the bed that was about a foot too short for her, in nothing but her panties she digs around in the donated clothes and finds another pair of jeans and a plain white button up shirt. She spends more time in the shower this morning than usually does, probably becuase its the first shower she's taken by herself in nearly 5 years.

Finally she lumbers out of her room and into the common area, grabbing a bottled water from the fridge she thinks about what to do with her day. Thinking about the events of the night before she decides that first off she needs to talk to Ms. Wainwright about Callie and see what she's allowed to do and not to do. Looking around for a piece of paper and not finding any Charlie digs around in the Kitchen. Finally just tearing the cardboard back off of a box of cereal, she finds a cheep bic on the table where the A-Team was playing cards the night before.

Sitting down Charlie wrote a note.

Ms. Wainrite.

This is Charlie Graham, I wanted to ask you last nite but with the problems with mike I dicided not to. Last nite when we were at the thetar I met a girl named Callie Summers, she was a little drunk. I talked with callie for a few minites and after she left her freand beth brought me her number, callie wanted me to have it. Mr. Bomont siad that callie was a pretty active socialist kind of like him just yunger.

I wanted to as your permision to call callie, I wanted to take her to dinner or maybe back to the thetar if I can, I liked the thetar. But if you don’t think that I should than I wont.

Charlie.

Taking a second to read over her note for any mistakes or anything she left out Charlie went and slid it under Ms. Wainwrights office door.

For dramatic purposes, I'm going to choose to fail the first few ones.

Mike was goose-stepped downstairs by Wainwright, thinking this just another attempt to get a reaction out of him. From the personal insults to the gun, she'd been trying to get him to break, to get a fright out of him. It hadn't worked so far, until..

"I..." Light poured out of a hole in the air, a gaping rend in the fabric of everything that is, and wrapped around Mike. But it wasn't the light at the end of the tunnel, by no means. This was more like the light from the fire Down Below. It burned into him, shattering his practised cynicism and laid his excuse for a soul bare to the harsh, unrelenting truth. "...my god... you're insane.."

His limbs were ramrod stiff even after the gateway was closed; Mike's photographic memory had been used against him. Closing it would never make him able to forget it. So traumatised was he by the whole experience that the gunshot didn't even make him flinch. He was in a world of his own, lost to the realisation that everything he'd been working for was ultimately futile and pointless..

When he regained awareness of himself, of what had happened, everything seemed unreal, insubstantial. He dropped to the ground in a ragged heap of limbs, unable to even keep himself up.

It wasn't until half an hour had passed that Mike was in a fit enough state of mind to get up; even then, he wasn't quite the man he used to be. He staggered to his feet and moved over to the door, scrabbling his fingers over its surface to try and find some latch, handle, switch, anything that would allow him to open it and to get away. He hammered his fists on the metal door, screaming as loud as he could with his nullified powers, but nothing happened. Child-like, he moved into the corner of the room furthest from the Abomination and curled himself into a protective ball on the ground. Sleep wouldn't come for him tonight...

By the time someone came for him in the morning, they would find something very different from the calm, suave conman that he had been the day before. Shiverring, rocking back and forth, Mike was muttering to himself. "It's all broken, had a plan but it's all broken, I'm all broken. No escape, no freedom, never getting out."

Wainwright, with Keller behind her, descends the stairs, and opens the door. Keller stands at the threshold, unwilling or perhaps unable to enter the room himself, and he looks in the direction of the closed gate with a tense expression.

Wainwright calmly enters the room and looks down at Mike without expression, then just shakes her head. "I do hope you don't think you're getting off that easily," she says aloud. And then, leaning down so that her lips are next to his ear, she whispers. "Never, ever, ever, try to suggest that you know what my husband would have wanted."

Ungently, she helps Mike to his feet, and pushes him in Keller's direction. With surprising deftness and odd compassion, the tall man catches Mike and helps keep him on his feet as he is half-pushed, half guided back up the stairs to Wainwright's office, then deposited back in the chair where he sat earlier. Wainwright takes her own seat, while Keller stands beside the door.

"Would you care for some tea?" she asks, as she pours herself a cup.
"You are a crazy, manipulative sociopath with no regard for the feelings of others."
"Remember that if you ever get it into your head to hurt her."

It was more like watching a movie about what was happening than the real thing. As if from outside his body, Mike experienced being manhandled upstairs and dumped in the same chair that he had been sat in the previous night. Shiverring as if the room he was in was at sub-zero temperatures, Mike ignored Wainwrights request and just looked at her. "You're insane."

A bitter, humourless laugh ripped its way out of Vox's mouth as Wainwright asked what about this whole scene seemed insane. There didn't seem to be words strong enough to express just what was wrong with this. "You have a gateway to Terminus.. in your basement.. and you actually expect us to follow you in. You should just shoot yourself right now, it'll be quicker."

Raymond Crey

Ray wakes up with the sun shinning on his face. He takes a deep breath the wind coming the air was nice, if a little stale from the building. It was looked nice outside. Then suddenly it came flooding in... from every where...

Ray stumbles out into the hall way towards the bathroom. He turns on the sink and ties to find some level of focus but instead electric runs through the water and back into Ray shocking him. He jumps back and trips over himself. Electric is running over his body randomly, small sparks bursting out of him. In spite of this he can still feel all of it.

Crashed on the bathroom floor Ray feels in now coming into focus. All the electric from miles around him. He can feel the exact voltage, watts and amps of power flowing through everything for miles around him. He did not know how his brain was quantifying the power into exact numbers... just that it was. He found himself over loaded laying on the floor unable to get up as his brain processed the information. He shivered on the ground for a long time unable to deal with it.

After awhile Ray wondered why no one else had come in the bathroom it had been hours. Then he realized that it had only been hours for him. Nothing was moving at least not very fast.

He could sense a bird catching an insect, and could feel the small spark of the insect become disrupted as it was crunched. He could feel everyone in the building even more precisely than before. He knew every persons pattern was different but now could sense it like looking at a fingerprint almost.

Pull it together Ray, you have to pull it together. The doctors told you if you don't control your powers it could kill you... focus. Your powers have grown deal with it, accept it. Control it. You can't let yourself keep on going like this.
It was the first coherent though he had managed in what for him was hours. He forces himself to breath in, after 20 attempts it finally happens.

Ray eventually manages to bring himself to his feat, he feels as if the world is pulling him down as if someone was sitting on him. He lifts up his hands and forms a electrical current between them. His sense returns to what it was the day before, but once he ends the current it expands again. This time however he is ready for it, the sparks over his body stop.

He keeps breathing steadily and walks out into the common area. Finding a clock he looks at it. The second is not moving... meaning he is still moving beyond normal speed.

Ray waits until the second finally hits it's mark and starts to count. He did this often to see what he could get to at a steady pace. Normally he got to about 100 or a little over, today he got to 279 before the second past. He forces himself after another 34 seconds past to see the world at normal speed.

After another minute of slow breathing Ray is back in control of his powers. For everyone else it had been only a few minutes, for Ray it had been a day of desperately trying to gain control over his own body. A reminder of what would happen if he did not gain better control.

Ray goes to the cabinets and find some breakfast. He sits at the table and starts eating. He is covered in a cold sweet, with a look of some level of shock on his face. If anyone asks he just says. "It's been a long morning."

"Yes, I do. To both statements. That's not madness, Mike. That's ambition and determination. I suppose to someone with such petty goals as yours, they might appear the same. But they're not.

"So let's review. By choosing to go not gently into that bad night, you have clearly accepted the other option I presented to you. So here's what's going to happen.

"You're going to use that mediocre acting ability of yours to pretend to be a human being, as opposed to the role of an inept sociopath that you've been playing all these years. You'll treat your colleagues and the people you encounter on your missions with courtesy and respect, using your powers to help and to defend them, not to exploit and demean them.

"You will pose as someone who was telling the truth when you lied, earlier, about not being in full control of your powers. In fact, you were addicted, psychologically, to their use, and are only now starting to recover from that addiction.

"I will be monitoring you constantly, from this moment forward. If you attempt, as I'm sure you're considering, to tell people about what you've just found out, it will go very badly for you. You know what I'll do. This is your very last chance, Mike. If you fail me, there really is no escape for you."

She leans forward, and there may actually be some sympathy on her face. "I know you, Mike. I know you far better than you would ever wish for me to know you. I know that you will accept this situation only long enough for you try and find a way out of it. And believe it or not, I'm okay with that. If I can be beaten by someone like you, Mike, then there's no way that I will ever achieve my goals.

"Okay? If you honestly can't stand this idea, then I am perfectly willing to put you through the portal. Like I said, I don't really believe that you're a sociopath. You care about ideas and ideals too much, and though I would regard any ideal for which you would choose death over life as unworthy of devotion, I will respect your conviction and even facilitate it."

You're insane because you expect it to work; worse, because you've tied up a dozen people in an elaborate suicide, Mike thought to himself. Even if she somehow was able to convince both teams to plunge headlong into the Terminus, they'd die within moments. Her plan had next to zero chance of success, but she dressed it up with a mockery of reason and honestly believed her madness was logic. That was almost as terrifying as the Terminus itself.

"This is your very last chance, Mike. If you fail me, there really is no escape for you."

"There's no escape for me even if I go along with this; you're marching us all to our deaths in the name of your twisted crusade." If she thought he was just going to lie back and take this, she was wrong. He'd just have to be clever about it. If he told the team, she had the sword of Damocles over his head, but if he did tell them, could she really follow through? There was no way he was going through to the Terminus, either being booted through or marching, and the best chance he had of avoiding that was getting the team together and maybe getting some outside help. But he had to be smart about it...

"You win. It's death for me either way. Might as well have a few weeks to get my affairs in order before you drag me down with you with your ridiculous death-wish."

Deeeep sigh. "Oh, Mike, you do persist in clinging to stupidity. I've been running this project for three years. My best people aren't anywhere nearly ready for the last mission. I don't even expect to be doing it within the next year. You'll have a lot more than a few weeks.

"Now, with regards to your new cover story, I've called in someone who should be able to help --"

There's a knocking at the door. Mr. Keller opens it, revealing a petite blonde woman with startling violet eyes.

"Ah, there you are," Ms. Wainwright says. "Mike, this is Dr. Ashley Ellis, the Director of Providence Asylum and a special consultant to the Project. I'm glad that you can take the time out of your busy schedule to help us out here,"

Dr. Ellis laughs a bit awkwardly as she walks into the room. "I know, I know, I'm sorry that I've been dodging your calls, lately, Harriet, but the difficult case that I've been dealing with for the last little while has finally started to show signs of the breakthrough that I've been hoping for. I'm going to give her a while to adjust, and this situation seems like a good distraction for me."

"Well, good," Wainwright says, sounding distracted as she starts to look through the papers on her desk. "Now, where's that --"

And then Dr. Ellis turns to look at you. "Hello, Mike Selvon. I understand you think you're something special." And she smiles.

And then the power dampener shuts off.

There are not only worse things than death. There are worse things than Hell.

Fade to Black.

Charlie: Strong Girl

After drinking a quick protein shake for breakfast Charlie grabs a bottle of water from the fridge and heads down to the Gymnasium area of the facility, leaving the door unlocked for the rest of the team if anyone wanted to join her. You would think that with a name like Strong Girl that Charlie would have been an avid gym rat her entire life but the truth of the matter is that she didn’t really start working out fanatically until she got to prison.

Before prison her strength and powerful physique just came naturally to her like it was a part of her body that would always be there but when she got to Blackstone and her powers were stripped away from her for so many long stretches of time her body started to waist away. She began in the middle of the Gym floor, starting like she started every workout, with Yoga. She cleared her mind, concentrating on only her breathing as she worked her way through her pre-workout sequence of poses. Starting off in agnistambhasana to bitilasan and into bhujangasana before ending at Dhyana.

Zalman
I'll insert promised reflections post. It's almost done, but I want to keep things moving as well. I'll post a comment in the OOC thread when it is up.

The Next Morning

Zalman awakens, feeling refreshed. His meditations the night before have brought things into focus for him. The path still seems true, though no easier then it was before.

After dressing in shorts and a light shirt, Zalman ate a brief breakfast and went to the Gym. He was mildly surprised to find the door unlocked, but upon seeing Charlie at her exercises all became clear.

Not wanting to disturb Strong Girl, Zalman says nothing, beginning a set of exercises of his own. Simple stretches lead into a series of swift movements that were clearly some form of martial arts routine. The style was impossible to name, mostly as Zalman was probably the only practitioner of it on this world.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of things for pay.

Charlie: Strong Girl

Charlie sat back and watched Zalman work his way through his Kung Fu, respecting the sense of calm that he had while he did them. She did some more traditional stretches as Zalman finished up, “You know, the best part about not having my powers in Blackstone was when I got to work out.”

“I can never seem to make my muscles truly burn when I have my powers. I’ve never found a weight set big enough to give me that work out.” Drinking some of her water and trying to make light conversation so that they could avoid talking about last night.

Zalman

"An interesting observation. That could well be why I never truly improved my own strength, even in times when I was engaging in continuous labour. Perhaps the gifts of power have held me back, even as I was observing others relying to much on their own powers." Zalman says, looking introspective.

"Something to think on. Thank you. As for your own concern, I may be able to help. My power could suffice to challenge your body, although until we test my mastery of the spirits of air against your great strength we will not know for sure. Are you interested?"
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;

They stood, and earth's foundations stay;

What God abandoned, these defended,

And saved the sum of things for pay.

Raymond Crey

After finishing his breakfast Ray gets and cleans his spot. He walks back into his room and changes into new clothing, just a plain white shirt and some shorts. He then goes into the bathroom to shave. He hesitates at first not having shocked himself just a few minutes ago.

Ray heads for the gym with the others just in time to hear Charlie. Walking up from behind hind he chimes in. "Oddly for me this will be my first real work out sense I got my powers. Other than a few run tests at the hospital." Ray starts doing some stretches and meticulously stretches out every muscle in his body.
